Man I'm goin into myvsecond week of training as a ready mix driver and I gotta tell ya, you give the best information I swear! Hats off to ya, I appreciate it! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much I needed this information, another driver said he would give me a slump chart I decided to try and get my own your is spot on to what he told me. Cheers you just helped a new driver check his loads with a little more confidence when adding water.
Thank you so much for these videos. I recently started a ready mix driver position. I am glad I found your videos. They are a big help. I am taking notes from them.
These numbers are what a book says to raise slump. I've had 8 yrs at a 4 slump and have had to 15 gal to make it a 5" adding fiber or color also sucks up a lot of water. Plus how far away the job is and outside temp.
Best method with a rear discharge climb the ladder and look at it when you get to job depending on what customer wants add some water mix it up discharge a little if they like it good to go good rule of thumb is 10 gals per inch of slump but that depends on the mix lots of variables there ! 30 yrs on mixer! Retired now company still uses me to train when needed
Thanks for the video as I’m learning slump myself. I don’t understand the “5 yards at a 2 slump a 4 slump is needed Does that mean upon adding the mix the slump is already a 2?
Thank you for the video. I don’t understand when you say “5 yards at a 2 slump “. Does that mean upon the operator pouring the mix it’s already a 2 before you go to the slump rack to add water? Thank you
Great informative video I am a UK based truck driver doing multi drop delivery driving and looking to go into mixer driving and your videos are certainly an eye opener thanks mate
It does but there are variables, lightweight is mostly for upper decks so majority of the time in order to pump it high they will use a super plasticized mix or high range. Both of which changes the ratio
I was pretty embarrassed,, We were shooting a pump load, they tried mixing it in with another couple loads but the inspector said no way & stopped us. By the time I got back to the yard iit heated up so much it wouldn't come out of the truck when I went to dump it in the pond. Had to fill the drum with stone & water trying to break it up. almost lost the drum as it was setting up. I hate mixers. LOL
I just started my ready mix career journey and I tell ya it's way more than most people think. Driving the truck delivering concrete is a small amount of your daily task per load and over all responsibilities.
Common rookie mistake you will see lots of concrete spilled on the roads near batch plant, if you look close enough. This is usually the cause I've had my share of adding all my water by mistake. Or hitting brakes to hard to stop with a 11yrd load. 🔥
You will be fine. Being a lady does not matter. Actually the majority of the time women take to it much quicker. Just demand respect and ask lots of questions. Watch my other videos, lots of info to see. Thanks for thw kind words and good luck! Keep us all updated on your progress!!!!

General rule is 1 gallon per yard raises slump 1 inch.

For instance the contractor ordered 5 yards at a 2 slump. So you slump to a 2 slump at the rack

Does the same ratio apply to light weight concrete ?
It does but there are variables, lightweight is mostly for upper decks so majority of the time in order to pump it high they will use a super plasticized mix or high range. Both of which changes the ratio
What do you mean by fully charging at an idle like it’s on the fastest mode for charging ?
Drum fulling spinning while idling. Not revving up.
It's great when you hit the water valve by mistake on the way to the job & add like 150 gals of water to the load.. What's for lunch??? SOUP. LOL
I would be lying if I said that never happened... Didn't get full tank in though and load was savable..

Thanks I will 👍
Never trust the slump Guage. Visualize your load!
Does anyone know of a chart like this that I can download and print?
Let me find the one I made and I'll post a pic of it
Where you able to post a picture of the chart? I can't seem to find it
Never take your hand off the water valve hah!!! Almost happened today.
fyi, take some black paint and spray your slump meters... it's all hogwash. Most trucks read differently especially on hills and slopes.
Also depending on the mix
yep and the concreatures say soup it up no mater what slump
Never trust your gauge
