The past month I started a janitor position at Holiday Rock, the more I learned the more I’m interested in how everything works, when I apply for this job I knew nothing about working in a concrete plant
Good stuff! Thanks for the tour. I watched a couple of your videos. Find you to be the man for stamped finished concrete. Watched one where it was much warmer than you would have hoped but you, your daughter and her friend pulled the mission off without a hitch. Those two girls were knowledgeable on what tool to grab when. All three of you ran like a Swiss watch; CONGRATULATIONS! - Now I'm subscribed as well. Thanks. Sonny (CT)
Years back I had a boss that could order his mud for 30 days infront and he was pretty good at it. Oh we had to put back a load now and then but he was probably the best at it.
Great video I was wondering what that end looked like. Its funny they are a concrete supplier and their concrete could use a little TLC. Probably those heavy trucks all the time.
Would love to see a video on using pump mix concrete. I feel alot of people have the idea that pump concrete mix is not as strong as chute concrete mix when in fact its just as or stronger because there is less water and more cement in pump mix.
Pretty sure I saw you comment on victory outdoors saying Ryan was doing a good job cause you started around the same time and he has more subscribers. Well the you tube algorithm just kicked you into my feed. Keep on keeping on!
You just described to me what they did at the old Gifford-Hill plant. Well, they call it Forterra. Before then it was called Hanson after they bought Gifford-Hill. But very informative.
Around 2:00 mark he gets started talking about the subject. You can watch it at 2.0x speed to understand it. Do you need a video editor for your videos?
I found your channel by chance not long ago and find the content Interesting so I subscribed. Oddly enough I knew a guy named Mike Day a long time ago, he was a truck driver for a ready mix company.
@kjh 1 I moved companies and now I batch and dispatch. I will say contractors are the worst and how some think we're just sitting around waiting with trucks for their call like they're the only order of the day is amazing. There is an art to dispatching though and I find if you call them and let them know the situation when it happens they're a lot more understanding. A lot will lie.
You forgot to mention the most important part the scales for agg and cement also water and ad mix measurements these are all very precise and need to be calibrated yearly or even monthly, spent 30 plus years putting up plants and repairing.
Do anyone know how to Adjust the boot on the batch plant to fit multiple trucks? At my job the boot is set to load rear discharge trucks that's ideally 12' tall, but I drive a front discharge which is 13+ feet tall. When I'm being loaded, the boot touches the inside of my hopper, which causes the material to spill everywhere.
I watch the video of you guys and you guys are using water reducer pouring a 7/8-in slump I was wondering if you could put retarder with it like a 2-hour delay just curious never done it I've been pouring concrete for a long time I always wondered if you ever have please let me know thank you what's a good mix for the summertime getting it wet and having good strength and have time to work it
00:40 when he said that he reminded me of this scene in the HBO Series "Chernobyl" when an inspector asks, "why did I see graphite on the roof?" And the plant director says, "you must have mistaken it for burnt concrete" and he goes, "that's where you made a mistake. I know all about concrete"
At a dry batch plant like this, yes. The other kind of plant is called central mix, where the materials all get mixed in a drum then dumped into the truck.
Mike, I'm an HO scale model railroader and I'm doing research on building a big enough complex to where this plant would make stuff like Jersey barriers, culverts, pipes, railroad ties, bumpers seen in parking lots and other misc items. I've bought several tractors w/ pnumatic dry bulk trailers, front end loader. I'll have the aggregates come in by rail loaded in 100 ton capacity cars. Lime can also come in by rail. You pointed out that the plant shown had two 100 ton storage silos, these are also available. Is their any other trailers that I'll need to transport material? How many different piles will I need, lime, cement, aggregates, sand. Which one of these need to be kept dry? Thanks for sharing this and for your valuable time. 0q
Always wondered how many concrete trucks will empty a cement truck. According to you figures, in a 10-yard truck that carries 40,000+ lbs of concrete, 5,500 lbs of it is cement.
Where are you located? I feel really sorry that you guys that have to drive and use the rear discharge concrete trucks. Front discharge is much faster and easier
With natural gas being so (relatively ) cheap and coal fired electric power plants coming under more and more regulations, many coal-fired electric plants are being shut down or only used during peak times, and fly ash only comes from them ( its a by-product ) , its going to be more and more in short supply .
can you tell us when do they mix water in?? i ordered 4 truck 3 of those where with different consistency the last one driver forgot to add fibre we had to wait on site for the van to deliver fibre he then added to truck what a noncense you would think the computer doses all that
The batch man does add some water. The truck should leave the plant with about a 4 slump, then add water on site to what you want. We get inconsistent mixes also. Sometimes we have to add water 3 or 4 times to get it where we want it.
You never really know whos fault that is , Some times its the driver, they get lazy and don't dump out leftovers or wash out water, and some times its time pressure from the dispatcher to get loaded or they are selling left over concrete from the last job , some times its poor communication between the salesperson to the dispatcher to the batch man . Fiber is put in manually, driver should look at the ticket , but 90% of the time there is no need to , so they dont , and they cant get the ticket till its loaded in the truck anyhow .
Are they so behind ages in UK. Its just simple. Computer calculates the ration and amounts maschine add them mixer mixes and pump pumps to truck of you go !! The perfect. Mix. Im paying for 40nm but if to much water or to much water added on site makes it 30nm only!!
Mike Day Everything About Concrete Oh nice. Ya I went and visited Maine a few years ago and absolutely fell in love with the great state. Looking to drive a mixer over there and came upon Sargent materials. Then I found your channel and thought “sweet I got an inside man now”😁
Hello Mike this is Ruben I'm from Northern Alberta Canada I'm wondering have you ever made a video of type 10 or type 50 concrete and where and why it would be used and how the finishing would be on either or
I am placing an order at Marshalltown and am trying to use your code 'EAC' and it says 'The promotion code: eac, is not valid.' thought you'd like to know..
Once all the calculated water and additives are added, the batcher will look by eye to judge the slump - often trim water will added at the end - no more than 10L per m3. This is often where oversight happens (if you're a new bat he perhaps) and you can end up with a batch that's to wet - water = more workability (how most concrete layers want it but less strength. Hence why every 60 odd m3 from a plant should be tested.
Interesting but doesn’t help me order concrete. Specifically slump, when to add fiber, rock size, what if i order too much, too little, etc. love your videos generally. Interested Subscriber.
They usually batch the concrete at around a 3 inch slump unless you tell them otherwise. They add the fiber when they batch the concrete. 3/4" rock size is standard. If you order too much, they take it back and make blocks out of the extra and no you don't get a refund for it. If you order too little, you have to order more to finish the job. You may incur a small load charge for the small amount of extra you need.
Hi dear brothers I’m heavy truck driver live in oman i have 5 year experience in oman as heavy driver i do work on concrete pump and vehicle i have 3 year experience in mixer now i need job in your country
depends on the mix, how far from the plant it is going, and how much you order. But in my area, upstate NY its about $100, per yard for a full 10 yard truck going local .
Concrete suppliers and the concrete masons themselves get lazy. The problem is they go home and the last thing they want to do is their own concrete lol. They are stubborn because they don't want to pay someone else to do it because they can do it themselves. But they don't want to do it in the first place. They also don't enjoy paying for the actual concrete for their own pleasure.
I like this i drove concrete truck for 14 years and realy liked my joband enjoyed working with our contractors and loved working with all the drivers
What now ?
The past month I started a janitor position at Holiday Rock, the more I learned the more I’m interested in how everything works, when I apply for this job I knew nothing about working in a concrete plant

Quit hating on Victory concrete Ryan is a master at concrete and a good guy
Great channel, im a batcher and I hope to start showing our process of making a mix and coordinating trucks
Years back I had a boss that could order his mud for 30 days infront and he was pretty good at it. Oh we had to put back a load now and then but he was probably the best at it.
Great view.. a perspective that doesn’t typically get view by the average Joe.
wood pays my bills. concrete is my secret lover.
Very informative...Thanks for making this video..
Glad it was helpful!
Great video I was wondering what that end looked like. Its funny they are a concrete supplier and their concrete could use a little TLC. Probably those heavy trucks all the time.
It's like painting contractors houses always need painting ✌
Second i heard you talking i knew you was up here in Maine. lol we can't hide our accent 😂😂
Mike Day drops a video. Like before even watching
Would love to see a video on using pump mix concrete. I feel alot of people have the idea that pump concrete mix is not as strong as chute concrete mix when in fact its just as or stronger because there is less water and more cement in pump mix.
Great video ! Learned alot.Thanks
I can’t imagine how ear piercingly loud that limestone dropping into the scale is inside that warehouse 😂
Thanks you for all the detailed videos and Happy Thanksgiving.

You just described to me what they did at the old Gifford-Hill plant. Well, they call it Forterra. Before then it was called Hanson after they bought Gifford-Hill. But very informative.
I was looking for a lot more technical information about the concrete; i.e., mix, slump, water amounts, etc.
I agree.
Same
For sidewalks add water in sec, 10 to 15 seconds mixing.
thats correct!! where is the water????
Yeah...me too
Enjoyed that. Thanks Mike!
Another informative video. Thanks.
very interesting thank you

GREAT JOB
Brother, I want you to tell me how much the concrete mixer driver gets per hour
Great video, planing to pour a 14x20 ft slab for a storage shed what type of concrete should I order from plant?
Thanks!
Do you think these plants make a lot of money provided the work is around?
Cool video thanks, from NC.
Great video!!!!!!!
Is that plant in Ypsilanti, MI? If so, I used to fly cargo out of Willow Run Airport s’why I ask
That was awesome!
Thank you!
Good vid Mike. You forgot to mention how those dispatchers always seem to have some ‘story’ about why your concrete is late 😆! Jk
🤜🤛
Im a ready mix concrete dispatcher and I must admit your comment give me a good laugh😄
As a batch man the only reason your concrete is late from me is my dispatcher gave me more orders than I have trucks or the plant broke, lol.
@kjh 1 I moved companies and now I batch and dispatch. I will say contractors are the worst and how some think we're just sitting around waiting with trucks for their call like they're the only order of the day is amazing. Your concert is late because the guy before you had a flat tire on his wheelbarrow and took twice as long to get the load off
I happen to be a loader guy at a redi mix plant.
Is there a maximum amount of time between loading and pouring that the concrete is usable?
cool , bob dispatcher at northern lakes concrete, like the vid, i have 5 plants and 20 drivers,
Awesome, good to hear from you Bob!
Approximately how much does it cost to start a redimix company? Let’s just start small and say running 3 trucks. How much land would one need?
Please explain to me why no matter where in the world we work we still use dot matrix printers?
You forgot to mention the most important part the scales for agg and cement also water and ad mix measurements these are all very precise and need to be calibrated yearly or even monthly, spent 30 plus years putting up plants and repairing.
3.2.1
Is that a high profile plant ? Or a low profile plant ?
Do anyone know how to Adjust the boot on the batch plant to fit multiple trucks? Cool, so the concrete is actually getting mixed in the truck.

Do you need block machine or batch plant
You probably got a lot of views today or recently because I’m a high schooler and my teacher for construction tools us to watch two of your videos
That's cool, thanks.

folks still use rear dump trucks???
Been waiting for a video like this. Pricing n this planning stuff
How do you go about measuring like a drive way...
If it's not a rectangle, break it into small sections using spray paint, then measure out each small section and add them together.
Where are you located? I feel really sorry that you guys that have to drive and use the rear discharge concrete trucks. Front discharge is much faster and easier
You should see the vids on the drivers view dealing with contractors 😂
Can you link some? sounds interesting :)
Do they offer fly ash or other "pozzolans"? It's hard to get those adjuvants in my area.
With natural gas being so (relatively ) cheap and coal fired electric power plants coming under more and more regulations, many coal-fired electric plants are being shut down or only used during peak times, and fly ash only comes from them ( its a by-product ) , its going to be more and more in short supply .
How can I get in contact with you and I love your videos men I Lear a lot
Thanks for Amazing Video
Glad you liked it
Thanks
Does this plant impact air quality? How do neighboring homes fair?
air and noise quality , I would not buy a home any were near a batch plant ,
can you tell us when do they mix water in?? i ordered 4 truck 3 of those where with different consistency the last one driver forgot to add fibre we had to wait on site for the van to deliver fibre he then added to truck what a noncense you would think the computer doses all that

You need batching plant opretar
Are you with Sargent materials in Maine?
That's where I get my concrete.
Mike Day Everything About Concrete
Oh nice.

5:40 You call Enrico Colantoni for your concrete?😆
Thanks!!!!

Hi dear brothers
I’m heavy truck driver live in oman i have 5 year experience in oman as heavy driver i do work on concrete pump and vehicle i have 3 year experience in mixer now i need job in your country
That’s a “dry” batch plant, can we get a central mix tour? 😂
we have mixer truck job i am from dubai
30 tons is the most you can get with a heavy permit.. 33 tons would have to be incorrect
Look so gd
Do you have to pay the concrete company to take your used junk concrete?
No, they recycle it.
I m batching plant operator sir
Hey how much it costs averagely per truck.
depends on the mix, how far from the plant it is going, and how much you order. But in my area, upstate NY its about $100, per yard for a full 10 yard truck going local .
🙂😷😷
I thought the concrete was mixed in the plant not the truck
They add the dry ingredients into the truck at the plant, as well as some of the water, then the truck mixes it all together.
At 4:28 the concrete apron of the concrete mixing plant all cracked and busted to hell...ironic.
