I wish I had a guide like Crash Course back when I was applying for college.

Same. Staring at this as a freshman in college thinking how useful this would have been a couple years ago XD.

    On the essay,
You kind of have to sell yourself without making it look like that’s what you’re doing. More or less the best way to do that is to be very reflective about the essay process and try to express what is essentially *you* in the essay. Not just “what is this story I can tell about myself” but “does this story capture the core of my being, or at least an important aspect of it?”

I love love LOVE crash course! Idk if you guys would ever be interested in doing this, but I would love/greatly appreciate a series just like this about applying to graduate school (law school, med school, masters/PhD programs, etc) I know that it’s a super specific demographic but I think the content would be very beneficial to those who love this channel already!

Admissions to college in my country are as simple as can be. You literally don't do anything but just let them know you want to study there. They accept students based on how well they did on one standardized test every student in the country takes at the end of high school.

    • @crashcourse

    • @MrAcuriteOf1337

Well yeah. See, the thing is, in America, if you're missing this information, you don't get to go to college at all, whereas if you have the information, you're already a massive leg up. People whose parents went to college automatically are in the latter category. Thus, making the process as labyrinthine as possible is a really helpful way to continue widening the class divide and the achievement gap. Hope this helps!

Germany is also similarly easy. There are also a lot of study programs that aren't restricted, so your grade doesn't matter, just show that you have an degree that allows you to attend a university.

Lol I remember paying $50 to submit an application years ago, along with the completed application & got zero response back… When calling in for technical difficulties as well, I was hung up. Completely rude. I resolved the issue myself to pay for the application admission… Got zero response as the end result. I didn’t care. - In total, I’ve tried 7-8 different colleges and universities & just obstacles are definite, especially financially. It’s an interesting process to say the least. Best of luck! * I still chose to continue though. :) Just alternative routes ie correspondence learning, and a licensing program. Everything works out as it needs to.

If you can, visiting the campus is really helpful. Some campuses you’ll feel at home in, others you’ll know right away that it’s not for you. It sounds so strange to say you should make sure the vibe is right, but it really comes down to that, at least for me.

Just wanted to mention that there are some states across the U.S. that have application systems in which you fill out all your information and submit that to all the schools of your choice. Essay choices are sometimes the same for schools so you can just submit the same paper. Definitely saves time and was the reason I applied to like 9 schools in Texas within a span of like two weeks 😂

    • @crashcourse
      @crashcourse  2 года назад +13

Yes excellent point! If a school only asks for a personal statement essay, it's expected that you'll submit the same essay to multiple schools. Just be careful that your essay answers whatever prompt they provide, and what each applications max word count is! You'll only need to write more if the school has "supplemental" short answer/essay questions.

does anyone know where I should go to talk to someone about what I should major in/ what I should study in general? I know I need to go to college for a job that I want but I'm not sure exactly what job? I know I'd like a job where I mostly work from home, and I'd like to work 6-2 or 9-5 Monday through Friday so I'm thinking a telehealth therapist because I'm interested in psychology, but I keep turning around and going "but is that REALLY what I want to do for the rest of my life?"

First step should be to figure out what you can afford and what your degree field will be then what the average cost will be. Cause attending a community college while living at home then attending the local public 4 year for say a total cost of 40k is a better choice then paying 120k to attend a out of state school. When both degrees will pay 100k

    • @wenkeli1409

With the college tuition being what they are, absolutely. When it comes down to it, I think most undergraduate education isn't all that different between reasonably decent schools, much less so than what you make of that education. So pick the better values.

It should be linked somewhere on the school's website! Some schools use portals like "CommonApp" where you can send the same application to multiple schools, but it should still indicate on the school's website how to apply.
