- Utilizing the CNC for cutting custom vinyl decals. Made these to decorate my homemade machines.
The toolpath was made by tracing the image that was created using the free online service from pixlr.com. I tried to make it look like the Festool logo, but put my own twist to it.

+Brian Bain Yes, But I have noticed that the better the adhesive vinyl, the better it cuts
Ok so now I need a drag knife... Thank you!!!
+Giaco Whatever The world is full of drag knives:):) Go for it
Well done as usual Roy!
+Dan Robidoux Thanks a lot Dan
Cool, great job!!!
+vosukhyy sukhyy Thanks
love all of this 'build'...
Thanks
thank you, thanks for the cool chanel as well love the cnc videos
+cody n Thanks for watching and commenting cody
Nice work!
+Lou Adzima Thanks Lou
nice job Roy!
+Mike Kapotsy Thanks Mike
nice logo!
+G.Work.Specials Thank you
That's pretty neat, I want one:)
+Shop built Thanks Ryan. You have one of them X-carves, right. Easy mod and you have yourself a quick decal/sticker maker:)
Haha, hilarious logo!
+Espen Lodden Thanks Espen
That's great. It's good to know the knife can cut using it's own weight, but I guess it has to be relatively heavy.
+Savvas Papasavva Thank you Savvas. I was not sure if it would be heavy enough, and tapped some threads in the top to put in a bolt with a stack of washers of neede. But the new dragknives are deadly sharp, and I think extra weight would only be needed for thicker material
Very cool. :)
+Jay Bates Thanks Jay. If you still have your Shapeoko 2, it should be a breeze to fit a drag knife to it.
I absolutely love your videos, thank you for such high quality content. Would you be willing to make a video highlighting the features if your CNC? You have some really neat features that are different from the average CNC router. Thanks Again.
+GoofyGarton Thank you for your kind comment . I have had some request about a tour of the CNC, I will make one, but not sure when I get around to it. Have some major redo on the electrical cabinet to do first
love you slogan,
Slower - Harder - More Enjoyable
Thanks Terry, its a pun on their slogan: Faster-Easier-Smarter
Testool....to funny! Will have to take a look at that knife you got.
+Tyler G Yup, I thought it was explanatory for what my homemade machines really is, test-tools, and its also pretty close the original. Probably the closest I`ll ever get to a real festool tool. I can email you a couple of links.
LOL! Testool - The process was pretty cool though :)
+FastEasySmartTOOL Thanks for watching and commenting. Glad you liked it
Выше всяких похвал.! Супер.
+Юрий Максименко Спасибо, рад, что вам понравилось
nice upgrade. i hope you're looking forward to future commenters asking you where they can buy testool gear from.
+pj Thanks pj, that would be cool:)
happy new year
+Mark Thieme Happy New Year to you as well Mark
lol! I'm going to have to look for a cutter blade now :)
+AdventuresInDIY Its suprisingly easy to make these decals. I guess I will pop a few more
Cool video and great idea
I have a cheap vinyl cutter. I used to make small signs, stickers and heat transfer vinyl for T-shirts.
Now I'm into woodworking too.
Hey I thought you were from Bellevue Wa. I live in Yakima Washington which is like an 1.5 hour drive. I was going to ask you if I could stop by your shop and take a look at your cool tools and work. maybe learn one or two things ;)
But I checked your channel and you live in Norway.
Ha ha ha
+Odon Mercado Thank you Sir! Welcome to the woodworking hobby and community, I think you will enjoy it. Lots of good info, and some great people to get to know online. Just swing by my shop, but I think you have to estimate closer to 4 hrs driving +++, but you will get there eventually:):):)
Здорово!)
+ДОБРЫЙ СТОЛЯР Большое спасибо
hahah cool! using testfool would add a dramatic effect :P
+Cactus! workshop Nice-... TESTFOOL, would be an even funnier one. Thanks for the tip
Very cool, this could easily be done with the Xcarve as well. Thinks for the idea and video.
+Mike Fulton Thanks Mike. Yup. I was actually holding this idea back for the last 6 months in hope of being one among others to receive an X-carve from Inventables, but it never happened. I would then have the opportunity to make a different kind of review of it, by showing other uses for it. But as mentioned, I had to skip that idea, and go with my trusty old cnc
+Bellevue Woodshop btw.. what kind of cnc is that? its awesome how quietly it moves.
+Ivan Stroganov Its a homemade one with brush-less dc servo motors on the X and Y axis. the Z axis is stepper motor driven
+Bellevue Woodshop awesome. did you build it off plans that are available somewhere? it looks really capable
+Ivan Stroganov No I just built it on the fly with the pieces I had collected from the dumpster at work, all parts are salvaged, even the steel frame. The only part I did purchase is the router itself, and the ballscrew for the z axis
Nice video. Cool looking machine, any videos or build log of the construction
Thanks. Unfortunately this cnc was built prior to my YT presence, however I did document some of the gantry rebuild on G+ a while back. You can find it here: plus.google.com/100130449211821684379
Bellevue Woodshop wow that's great thankyou, even more impressive now I realise it's timber. How is the accuracy with the timber?
How does the blade work? All I can think is that it drags behind the holder so it points in the direction of the path. But it would need a minuscule radius to not have strangely rounded corners. What's the maximum depth a blade like this will cut?
+Rick Measham I am probably not the right person to explain this, but I will try. Yes you are correct. The blade tip is set just a fraction off center, therefor it will "tail" the direction of cit. the blades are extremely small, and can be purchased in different shapes. This is a 45 degree blade. I am not sure how deep they can cut, but along with a deeper cut also comes larger radius in the corners, du to the amount of blade exposed , i would think. Hope this made sense
Excellent video!
Is it the weight of the rod that presses the blade into the vinyl or is the cutter spring loaded? Is the blade's cutting depth adjustable?
+Mark Lindsay Thanks Mark. You are correct, its the mass of the rod that keeps the pressure on the cutter. The blade exposure is adjusted with the black endcap. Its threaded, and expose more or less blade as you twist it
Bellevue Woodshop Thanks very much! I'm looking into them as we speak. Or type, as the case may be...
Nice video, and man, that "testool" and baseline... I LOVE IT :-D
Would you share your template please ?
+Jérémie Tarot Thanks for the kind comment Jérémie. Sure thing.Drop me a PM with your email address, and Ill send it to you
Pm sent !
Jérémie Tarot I sent it to you as an attachment on Google hangout, but I will check my PM
What did you use to create the tool path?
+Mike Higgins Vcarve
What font is the TESTTOOl, I want to do something similar :)
I dont think there is a correct answer out there unfortunately. The closest I could find was Eurostile T Black Extended , but when I think back I might have just exchanged the F with The T. But Eurostile font is pretty close
The people at Festool made a mistake with the spelling, the CEO said Test-Fools (to see which fools would pay their ridiculous prices), and the rest is history : )
Ha, good one, thanks for watching
Funny stuff
+Joseph Davis Thanks Joseph, glad you liked it
do you have any plans of the cnc? if not, Could you give me some information on how its made... because i failed twice i the making of....
Hi. Unfortunately there are no plans available. It was just built on the fly with the parts I had salvaged. I wish you the best on your third attempt.
hmm... :/ wellll maybe some more research will do good..... thanks for your reaction!! but one more question: could you, if you want, make a small video about the cnc...?
I have a few modifications I want to do to it first. Also I have promised to make a video on my homemade table saw first.....but still behind on that also
ahh ok, thanks for your reaction
do you have a link to the drag knife you used
+cody n I bought mine here: www.ebay.com/itm/Blade-Holder-for-Cutting-Plotter-Vinyl-Cutter-Roland-Cricut-Mimaki-Pcut-Redsail-/141419658256?hash=item20ed44bc10:g:y68AAOSwo3pWd2TA
Aw very cool so what type of blades does this use
cody n I use these: www.ebay.com/itm/hot-5pcs-45-degree-Cutting-Plotter-Tungsten-Blade-Carbide-for-Roland-Cutter/261945918783?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35006%26meid%3D4e090d9f6fe74ad7bbc05d2322ca1b8c%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D141419658256
На рынке инструмента появился новый бренд.ТЕСТУЛ.
+Юрий Максименко Надеюсь Festool не будет судиться меня для принятия аналогичного логотип :)
FESTOOL: Pricier, Pricier, More Expensive.
+Michael Harris Yup, probably the closest I get to owning tools of this brand is this sticker:) But they sure looks like they mean it when they make their stuff. Innovative and looks like great build quality. But I agree, waaaay to pricey, (for me at least)

Interesting look inside if you have not seen it.
who made the cnc machine you use
I did, its made from salvaged parts
quale software hai usato per il taglio?
Vectric Aspire
Elsker videoene dine! Hvis jeg har forstått det riktig så bor du i Norge?
Takk for det Markus. Ja det stemmer det.
Bellevue Woodshop Stilig! Kult å se en nordmann gjøre det så bra på RUclips :) Hvor i Norge holder du til? (Må ikke svare på det hvis du ikke vil)
Takk Takk. Holder til på Solkysten.....aka Sørlandet:)
testool!:D hahaha but a question. wherd to get that kind of vinyl cutter?
+Michał Kucharski :) I bought it off ebay, just search for: Roland blade holder
+Bellevue Woodshop thanks!:)
Did you use Vcarve to generate the tool paths?
+Brenton Younkin Yes SIr
+Bellevue Woodshop Great! How deep of a pass do you have to set? I know it's floating. Where can I but the cutting head attachment? I just have a homemade CNC.
+Brenton Younkin I just set it to 2mm, but it really doesnt matter as I have 50mm of travel at least on the floating. I bought it off ebay, just search for: Roland blade holder
The blade exposure in the holder is adjusted to only make a cut through the vinyl, and not the backing
+Bellevue Woodshop I've been thinking about doing that to mine. I used to run a plotter sign cutter that was a Roland. I did that right out of college. Thanks for the info!
Too funny, and great job on the decals. Do you speak German? Or know a good German attorney? You might need one soon :)
+Michael Anderson Thanks Michael. Nope, and if someone calls, I just say Ich habe keine ahnung:)
Dæven det ble bra, å ikke minst underholdende :)
+Jan H Brenna Takk Jan, artig at du likte det
Is this dude making a mental hospital pun?
How does it works? How can I contact with you? I need this thing. I can pay for this. Please contact me.
When did you build your CNC?
+jokoloka1 This one I started back in 2007, and used it for a couple of years, but the last 6 months Ive been modifying it with upgrades to make it more user friendly. I made my first one (a smaller one) back in 2006. you can see some video of it on another old channel I have some RC stuff on : ruclips.net/video/2P9KmAE8s9E/видео.html
Great, my next question was going to be if you had any footage of it. Thank you.
Also, I've been trying to figure out where you're from, Norway or Denmark?
+jokoloka1 The footage is pretty poor though. I am located in the southern part of Norway
Okay, I saw some hints there and there. I'm from Sweden myself but used to live in Haugesund.
Way you do not talk are you afraid?
