    This is one of the best DIY power feeders I've seen. Finding a gearbox could be a stumbling block for most ppl. A good source of small free/cheap gearboxes are self-propelled lawnmowers / push mowers. I even have a couple that are 3 speed. One trip to the junk yard, garage sales, recycling center etc can yield a few of them.

    Great idea using the hockey pucks i was thinking about skateboard wheels. Because of the flat surface. But the hockey puck was brilliant ! I liked that. Speed adjustment too and the fact it Worked on the many different thicknesses without major readjustment ! Looking. Way foward to watching more of your videos on the channel

    Super. The easy on and off from the fence is great. Are you happy with the speed reduction or change it?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  9 лет назад +1

      WoodRodent Thank you, The speed reduction woks Ok. If I had the chance I might pick a gear reduction beeing maybe 50:1 or 100:1, to get even more torque. The drill runs on absloute minimum speed at the lowest speed. I have not used it for serious deep and heavy cuts to test the torque. but I think it will serve me ok in most cases

  • @SirBenJamin_
    @SirBenJamin_ 6 лет назад

    Could this be used on the outfeed of a jointer table? I'm a wheelchair user and find the action of planing very difficult/dangerous, so if I could be on the infeed side and just pass stuff through, letting it do the hard work of holding it down flat to the outfeed table, it would be much easier for me.

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  6 лет назад

      It might, but as you say it might be best on the infeed side, but it would be harder to get away with jointing the last end. Shifting pressure to the outfeed table when passing the center of the board usually helps. It might work best with one on each side.
      Kudos to you for to for being into woodworking despite of your obstacles

    Very good build! But whence do you get a 'salvaged angle gear reduction'?...

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  5 лет назад

      Thanks. It is a 25:1 gear reduction out of an old wood profiling machine. It had servo driven positioning of the spindles, and a picked the machine before it got scarpped

  • @coburnlowman
    @coburnlowman 7 лет назад +1

    That is a well thought out feeder. I have literally tons of lumber to rabbet the edges of for siding and flooring. We have been sawing lumber for building our house and it's time to start finishing the rough sawn to finished now , and need such a feeder. What did the worm gear drive fit or come off of? What ratio is it as well? From watching yours with that drill motor it appears you have the perfect range of speeds. We have a few worm drives from the scrap yard that I bought at scrap prices but they're at least 3 - 4 times the size of yours and would be too big and bulky.

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      Hi Phil. It came of an industrial woodworking machine. I was installed on a servo motor positioning some milling motors in a line. Its a 25:1 reduction. but if you plan to use a drill, i would suggest you get one with at least 50:1 maybe even more. The drill has to be run on absolutely slowest settings, and that reduces the torque some, and also makes speed adjusting harder

      I have been trying to do this myself for the past few months with little success, before I found this. thank you. Motors I have used are from garage door openers, and are chain driven, except the last which is a 12v marine line haul 2 speed motor. All chains and sprockets have come from the openers with the sprockets for the wheel drives, from the bike shop. All drive parts are on the inside of the fence, with the wheels going through so I can still use feather boards and have good visibility. My issue is that my wheels do not grip. I started using the 100mm scooter wheels, they try to work, but there is not enough bearing surface so they slip, have made wooden ones and now looking for a tread to put on. would like to try the hockey putt idea, but they are as scarce as here in NZ.
      I like the idea of sprockets and will investigate that as it is a lot more compact. thanks for you video and your ideas. - Les

    Great idea! I was looking at ac gear drive motors. They come with variable speed controller. You can choose different gear ratios. Would a 50-1 work ok? I believe the rpm was 0-25. They are about $70. Approximately what rpm should the feed rollers run? What is the diameter of the gears. That would all change the speed. Thanks, looking for reply

    Awesome, I was hoping that the Wooden Tool Man would produce a build video and a walkthrough on the build...but you did it first. Although, one could never duplicate your build, it solves many problems vs starting over from scratch...so thank you! Any thoughts on making plans available for us? The only part that I am unsure of where to get is your salvaged angle gear reduction mechanism...are those freely available for purchase? What exactly is it meant to achieve? Thank YOU!

      MP Woodworking Thank you very much. I to followed the build, but after part 5 in oct 2013, it ended. So I pulled out the feeder I had started 2 yrs ago, and I really liked the idea of the hockey pucks and gears, instead of the rubber coated plywood wheels I had, with chain and sprocket. There might be plans available, but it would have to be redesigned a little to only use readily available parts. I have started a couple of tests on this, but no promises. the gear is mainly to reduce the speed so that an amount of torque is obtained from the drill, as it can ride on a decent speed.It did not hurt that it was angled, at i saved space. i thought of using an angle gear from an old 5" angle grinder, but this has only a 4.5:1 gear ratio

      Thanks for your reply, and anything you have in forms of plans, I would love to see. Even beside the speed reduction portion, I would like to start to attempt this. Along with Izzy's osculating sander, these two are now atop of my "things to do" column.

      redfoot1958 Its salvaged from an old servo drive that used to sit on a German profiling machine tha we dismantled at work many years ago

      Grahame Blankley Thanks, yes you are correct, it lifts a little, but it doesn affect the cutting action or accuracy. maybe the compression springs for the vertical motion are to stiff?

    Clever idea, I just got one question: Did you angle the feed rollers inwards to pinch the stock against the outfeed fence to keep it tight against it or does the wheels track in parallel with the fence?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  8 лет назад

      +Morten Mortensen Thanks Morten. Yup, they are slightly angled towards the fence. The angle of attack can be adjusted 5:10 The 2 6mm machine screws on the right side

    How or where did you obtain that gear reduction unit to which the drill is attached?

    • @bellevuesnekkeri
      @bellevuesnekkeri  7 лет назад

      I salvaged it from an old industrial profiling machine. They used to sit on some servo motors, and they are a 25:1 ratio, to increase the torque of the drill, it would be better to use at least 50:1
