What I loved about James Gunn’s trilogy was that he was the only one who could finish it. When Marvel fired him, they tried giving the job to every veteran, and up and coming director, but they all passed on it, simply out of respect for James and the universe he created with these films.
Don't think gunn was fired was he? Either way..Dc is in very good hands. The music. The plots. He will make it work.
@@wrenchguy2937 He was fired be Disney.
@@wrenchguy2937 he was fired. Then he made the suicide squad and they begged for him back
@@wrenchguy2937 He was fired; No director was willing to take on GOTG vol 3, as the cast was threatening to quit if James wasn't going to direct GOTG vol 3.
I'm now a fan of James Gunn's work
Absolutely loved Guardians 3. It’s definitely the best MCU film post-Endgame. James Gunn never misses
It’s best MCU movie of 2023
@@chasehedges6775 thats not a challenge lmao the only competitor is quantumania
I might still be coming of the high of the film but I might even rate it higher than Endgame.
@@Justlookin48 no, you're probably right
@@noamasaf2668 Quantumania have better story for future projects
The thing i love about Nebula is that it really feels like shes joined a family that loves her. In the second movie, she didn't understand how people can be at each others throats yet still love each other. She learned the difference between friends and family.
That and they all call her by a nickname. They call her either Nebby or Nebs, which must feel nice considering she never had a childhood. Now she has a family who will call her a dumb nickname because they love her.
She has some of the best character growth in the MCU, and it feels so gratifying in this movie to see how much she cares and how much they care for her.
I'd say compared to Quantumania from before, this isn't burdening itself with being the big piece of the next part of the ongoing MCU nor does it feel like the film was predominately done on a green screen. It was like everything that wasn't in the best way. The fact that more investment comes out of the stakes of trying to help a friend as opposed to SAVING THE ENTIRE MULTIVERSE says wonders.
The amount of practical sets and prosthetics along side the CGI made me so happy, especially for the CGI vomit MCU movies tend to be. Great movie, the best MCU thing in a while and likely the last great one for a while.
I remember my eyes widening a bit watching much of the film coming to realize "Wow, that is an ACTUAL set! Wow, those are ACTUAL suits. Wow, those are ACTUAL prosthetic!" I couldn't believe it after all the green screen keying I have seen lately in the MCU for much of this stuff.
"likely" based on what. The mcu has statistically made more good/great than bad. I'm a mcu fanboy btw
@@Antwannnn While the MCU has produced great movies in the past, their current output is not looking decent.
@@StationSquare. they also produced shotty films in the past. Remember the year 2013? 2015? 2011? 2010? 2019? People considered the mcu movies that came out these years to be mid or boring. Now their tune is changing up bc...honestly idk why. It's a trend? Recency bias?
I have faith in The Marvels and their 2024 slate. Bob Chapek has done a lot of damage to both Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel so since his firing I'm feeling a lot more optimistic about the likelihood of consistent high quality in these next coming mcu shows/movies. Wish that optimism was shared. But, like I said before, "I'm a mcu fanboy"
@@Antwannnn "Likely" just based on the current track record. I do hope they keep making good movies, I'm just not optimistic.
I was never the biggest fan of GotG. But this movie had me by the throat. From the moment we meet Lila and the others you knew what was gonna happen and it somehow made it more devastating. Every time the animals were on screen I sobbed like a child. EVERY TIME. This movie made me want to rewatch the whole trilogy
Me too with the sobbing. Maybe it's because I have four pets and imagine voices and dialogue for each of them. The scenes with Rocket, Lylla, Floor, and Teefs were at once sweeter than honey and also utterly devastating.
Rocket has long been my favorite character in the MCU. The way Gunn was able to develop such a great story for a talking raccoon is unbelievable.
Same here. I cried every time! I rewatched Vol 1 & 2. This 3rd installment really wrapped it up so well.
Most solid part of the mcu. Every movie hits the mark it needs too. And I like how much development they gave rocket.
It is very true what Vin Disel said about understanding Groot. I have Cerebral Pasly and a speech difficulty. My best friend can understand what I say completely, but I have to use my communication device while talking to other people.
Mad respect. My mother has cerebral palsy. I'm almost 30, my sister 26. Mom raised us both with her disability and taught us both how important communication and empathy should be for understanding others. I don't know your story, but I can say that you're a very strong soul. Keep doing your best
@@606Xentrax606 Thank you so much, Xentrax! Please let your mother know that I have respect for her. Unfortunately, my Cerebral Palsy would not allow me to be able to physically take care of any children that I might have. Your mom is truly lucky to have you and your sister . The world needs more people like you. 💖
the cut between Bradley cooper doing rocket and vin diesel doing groot killed me. 101% effort for rocket and 1% effort for groot
It literally had the best fight scene in the MCU. That CGI was so good 🥹 especially through out the movie. I think it works better because James Gunn knows how to actually use practical effects too
What is really amazing about this movie aside from all the other things like the characters, the backstory of Rocket, the evil villain, etc is the fact that it can work very well as a stand alone movie. You could be someone who has never seen any MCU movies before and you could still watch this movie and feel all the emotions you’re supposed to feel and by the end of it feel like you know these characters on a personal level! And that’s great, I think no Marvel movie has reached that level yet
I was hoping this movie would explain the Origins about how Rocket meets Groot for the first time🚀🌳
We still got a good origin regardless but yeah, that would have been much cooler.
After the movie ended my head cannon makes rocket on a planet where he is not accustomed to their social norms and feels lonely and so he’s sad and he meets griot who can only say “I am groot” and rocket doesn’t want to talk to anyone is being bothered by groot who keeps saying” I am groot “ to the point rocket snaps in frustration and erupts into emotional mess where he says “ I am rocket” and he realizes it’s the first he used his new name on a person who would be a lifelong friend
@@DiegoGarcia-gm8tp best headcanon ever
They can make a spin off with them 2
pretty sure they are doing a disney plus thing for groot
I honestly don't think I ever hated a villain as much as I hated the high evolutionary. And I mean this in a good way. Too many villains either come off as bland, generic or in some way likeable.
I cant believe I was laughing and having fun at one moment and on another it was depressing, sad, dark and disturbing. Its insane what Gunn did for Rocket backstory considering it was supposed to be a fun superhero comedy movie, its disturbing & depressing stuff for a marvel movie
Guardians 2 is still my fav MCU film of them all (seriously go rewatch it) but this one is also amazing.
if it wasnt for the Captain America movies and Spidermans already huge popularity, I think it would be safe to say the majority of people would consider this trilogy the best in marvel. All three movies are amazing.
i love that the mere fact you didn't reveal anything about the plot in your "let me explain" is LITERALLY telling us all to go watch it because its that great of an experience.
The Guardians of the Galaxy movies have always had the most heart.
so happy to see you back! your reviews are so fun and well paced. love em :)
Peolple say Gunn is one of the best CBM directors - which is true, but I hate that people are so insecure about their love for these properties that they csnt just flat out say that Gunn is one of the best working directors, period. Dude is easily one of the best story tellers to ever grace the big and small screen. He doeent gate keep cinema and appreciates all form of stoeytelling. He underdtands why people watch movies.
Am I the only one that sees James Gunn as slowly looking more and more like a cross between Toy Santa from the Santa Clause 2 and Jack Frost from the Santa Clause 3?
Lylla is a character from the comics, with a direct tie to Rocket's origins. So Gunn including her name in vol. 1 was probably no more than that at the time.
(Gamora is likewise listed as the last Zen-Whoberi survivor in that same booking sequence, even though it's the Russos who end up actually showing us that, in Infinity War. That's because that fact is ALSO lifted straight from the comics.)
None of this is to detract from James Gunn's brilliance as a director, nor to diminish the achievement that GOTG vol. 3 truly is.
Just saying that every single detail of vol. 3 was NOT thought out as far back as vol. 1
My favorite thing about this one is you can tell how much each member cares for one another.
Spoiler alert - spoiler alert- spoiler alert
From groot telling gamora it was good working with her all shy and her finally understanding him
Nebula acting like an older sister to drax and mantas
Nebula and rockets relationship
Shit this whole story wasn’t about saving the universe or a planet but to save rocket
I could just tell they all grew close like a family I think thats why this one is my favorite out of all three
Drax being told that “he wasn’t meant to be a Destroyer, he was meant to be a dad”, still makes me tear up.
It really makes me happy to see a suitable conclusion for my personal favorite trilogy within the MCU. It’s kinda sad that this is the best movie since Endgame… 😭
I'll be real, I haven't liked the last batch of Marvel movies, and I just went to this one for Will Polter. It was nice to be surprised by how good it really was. It had the heart that other Marvel movies in this phase are lacking.
The Chris Pratt puppet is crazy good!
Did anyone else notice that throughout the movie, Mantis always lands on her head? Lmao
It's slowly becoming my favourite MCU movie!
I love this movie, I love Rocket, I love them all. I was sobbing so hard in my theater seat throughout the whole animal storyline and my soul was shattered and then reassembled.
I loved this movie and I gotta recover from the emotional damage before i see it again im IMAX.
You didnt mention the tears people shred in the theatre.
The story completely works on our emotions, rocket raccoon
6:30 Yea Pom the dark purposes I’d have for a lifelike doll of an unconscious Chris Pratt…
Vin Diesel was so excited to get work outside of Fast Furious 😂
I go to the AMC Metreon in SF. I think the Dolby Vision is the best picture right now. I watched the Mario movie back to back, Imax and then Dolby.
11:27 Now I realized why I relate to Rocket so much. It took me until now. Thank you James gunn
Me and my mom cried at the end and rarely do I cry watching movies 🥲
The last few years I've been up in the air about marvel films...
Then I realized I like James gunns films.... and then I realized I ALWAYS loved his films
Totally forgot about slither
Probably the best of three. Because this time Gunn didn't really undercut dramatic moments. Although Adam Warlock was a huge disappointment and felt totally shoehorned.
I don't think it's the best after Endgame cause I liked second Black Panther way too much but I understand the praise
Just saw it last night! I think it was the first marvel movie I haven’t been cynical about since Spider-Man no way home. Unlike most of the Marcel movies of late, the characters are consistent and the logic of the movie is tight enough
If you're cynical, you're only gonna look for bad stuff on the movies. Go into them with an open mind and I feel like you'll enjoy them more.
@@beccaswann6391 thanks dawg
Seeing Vin in studio was hilarious!😂
I've been watching clips online and I'm noticing a lot of the different scenes from different regions..... that was fucking genius.....
you know, it occurs to me drax is indubitably strong enough to lift a human being. so if they just had him be the one carrying star-lord during the slo-mo walk, they wouldn't need to make a dummy but whatever
I believe it was for a small gag/because nova is gamora's sister so they have a different relationship.
@@jdamourepNebula?
i’m sure they thought of that, but visually it’s kinda more interesting to see nebula carrying him hahah
i’m sure they thought of that, but visually it’s kinda more interesting to see nebula carrying him hahah
The word spoken here by James Gunn about vulnerability and the walls we put up, are exactly what I have said.
Guardians Of The Galaxy 3 is the best thing to come out of Marvel
Hmm. So annihilation of a while planet didn't make you feel sad at all? Just the bright ones? What in the Hitler world is this?
Dick riding is crazy
since No Way Home I agree.
Dude i forgot this channel existed. I havent gotten a notification in over a year. Miss the content 😅
This movie was a rollercoaster of emotions and I enjoyed every minute of it
Best MCU movie, no question, Gunn dropped the mic.
The Screen X was AMAZING
I nearly thought groot will say "I love my family" with that vin diesel voice. Miss opportunity.
I love all the GOTG movies. I can rewatch them again & again
In Guardians 1 we see Lylla mentioned as one of Rockets associates. It was a cute easter egg at the time. However, if she didn't make it out of the labs, how could anybody have known this, besides from Rocket himself, who was at the time wrecked with survivor's guilt?🤔
Rocket probably put her down as an associate when arrested at some point. Or somehow he created that faux backstory of what could have been
Guardins of the galaxy 3, amazing film. ❤🎉. 11 out of 10. Get your ass to the nearest movie theater.
I haven't cried so hard in a marvel movie since endgame 😢
Seen it multiple times. It was beautiful. Literally beautiful movie making.
I felt this movie ended my mcu era for good.
I can’t have the same level of excitement i had when i was teenager waiting for next iron man movie, but it’s all good. New era of something will continue to entertain us all:)
I love how James Gunn picked Bradley Cooper to be him in his autobiography 👏😎🦝
6:46 if nobody does these space suits for Halloween I will.
Bro this made me cry
This movie feels good. This will make you feel good when the credits roll.
James Gunn took characters that not many people knew and made people care about them. Zack Snyder couldn't us to care about Superman and Batman.
And what's the purpose of the second sentence? 🤔
@@Charmedsas1 the purpose is that Zack Snyder movies suck especially the so called the Snyderverse. He ruined DCEU and the characters because of the fact that he doesn't understand comic books.
wow... Now I reallllllly wanna watch it. LME, you did this one good. Thanks for the no spoilers!
Your the only RUclipsr that I’m okay watching ads. I know where the moneys going ❤
What a 180 after Quantumania!!
Saw this movie yesterday and couldn't stop crying loved it! Now im buying all the marvel legends ANYTHING Guardians 😅😊
Marvel losing james guns is a bad thing because gotg is the only unique thing in mcu right now.
I haven’t seen this yet. Just watched the Second one a few days ago.
I’m just here to say Hi!!!!!
At first I was like why am I watching this I don’t care about then and then I was crying and rooting for them
JG will be missed and MCU and Disney screwed up with disrespecting the dood. Now I just want the man to stream a D&D campaign with all the folks he kept in his team when working on this trilogy and I'd pay to watch them be goofs. I look forward to see his last laugh and success in the DC side of things Guardians 3 and the spiderverse movie is the only good ones in this phase and I hope that the MCU and SW can get a detox when and not if they rat king eventually sells the rights to those IP.
Great review
"Press the button, open the f-ing door"
BE STILL MY ACHING SIDES, oh boy, did I laugh long and hard....
Thank You James Gunn.
Great video man
You should do a video on the bear
this does bring up an interesting point, though; why didn't the tva step in when thanos & gamora ended up traveling to 2023? are we to believe that was supposed to happen too?
yes
Whatever happened, happened 😉
Until new canon is established, if the TVA did not stop something, it was supposed to happen.
It would be interesting in future to see how they decide what should happen cos it’s pretty messed up to have that much power.
Can somebody explain the significance of 1:11 to me?
You left out some important information, but that is the gist of it.
Hey, good video
People who dislike Guardians 3 only dislike it because it's part of the MCU. Many critics have admitted as much. If it were an independent sci-fi trilogy people would be obsessed.
I love HEAVEN TO ME
Somebody who snuck in a what? I’ve listen to a number of times and even put on close captioning and have no idea.
Is this Macro?
My only complaint was that no one died. They played it to safe. but i get it. the movie still was soooo good
The guy from Superstore died
@@Dr.LongMonkey 😂😂😂😂
To think they tried to cancel him 😂 all they did was gave him a new cinematic universe to rule 😂
Best Marvel movie since Endgame. Fact!
Ant-Man 3
Good video but that beeping throughout is really annoying 😅
You don’t have to explain…
Missouri for the win
no way you said guardians of the galaxy is a better space opera than star wars
I don’t need you to explain why a good movie is good.
I could not stop thinking about my sweet kitties and my lovely pup throughout this whole movie. It might’ve been a little predictable, but Rocket’s backstory wasn’t any less gut wrenching. It actually made me sob throughout the whole movie thinking about my animals.
5:50 "These organically grown skin-suites:"
which look like a 5-y/o threw clay at a mannequin. Lets be real here.
what a movie
I feel a littke skeptikal about James Gunn hiring "good people" I mean yes! I like everyone in the Guardians cast but... Why keeping some one as nuts as Ezra Miller Flash but letting go Henry Cavill in his new DCEU? That is weird...
He didn’t hire Ezra. He’s just holding off on firing him until his movie premiers.
This is also the first time in a LONG time where the VFX and cgi actually look what’s the word… GOOD, instead of all that bullshit walking eyesores in majority of phase 4 and all the shit cgi, than the VFX team get treated and PAID like actual dog shit and marvel just covers it up
To me the movie was good. Wished Adam Warlock had more stuff to do then being a dumb baby. And kinda sad that the end credits was not that much
This was the best movie of the three but i cant watch it again. I was honestly forcing myself to finish the movie
Liiiiiiisten !!!
By far guardians of the Galaxy volume three other than
Spider-Man NWH is the best MCU movie post endgame era The rest just not as great.
