    #AHelpingHand FOR WORI
WORI is a Ugandan nonprofit organization that provides shelter for survivors of sexual and sexual violence. Survivors are often women with their children, and they usually need food, counseling, legal help, emotional support, and a safe place to rest among others. The WORI shelter is a community-based initiative and has relied on goodwill, as well as the labor of the staff who bake cakes to keep the doors open. The last couple of months have been especially difficult for them due to a lack of resources and funding, and they urgently need your help to keep their doors open.
Join #AHelpingHand to raise UGX20,000,000 or $5,000 to cater to their needs. You can support through cash contributions, food, diapers, mildly used clothes for women and children, soap, diapers, sanitary pads, bedding, and school supplies.
Cash contributions can also be sent via Mobile Money or to Standard Chartered Bank (010080548700 - Ahumuza Patience)
Non-cash contributions can be dropped off at Fade Eyewear (ORJ Mall, Kaduyu Road, Kiwatule).
To set up recurring monthly donations, join WORI’s Patreon, where you will also receive updates from the shelter.

In my opinion, the argument that today's women are more empowered than boys, and attributing this to the faults of feminism, is another way of blaming women for the failures of patriarchy.
In saying that you overlook the fact that feminism has always been about striving for equality, not dominance. By framing the success and empowerment of women as a threat to men, we perpetuate the very systems of inequality that feminism seeks to dismantle.
The real issue isn't that women are becoming more empowered; it's that society has not adequately addressed the ways in which patriarchy has limited opportunities for all genders which takes us back to why we need true feminism.
Rather than pitting one group against another, we should be working toward a society where everyone, regardless of gender, can thrive without the constraints of outdated and oppressive systems.

On Claire's point about boys I would contextualise it as men are still being raised in very traditional norms whereas girls are being raised to be a mix of a traditional woman (good girl) with mordenity( working to bring money to the home)

This conversation needs to be a series .
I tell people all the time that life will be so easy if we all leave by the mantra" do unto others as you want others to do unto you" The society unfortunately have selective amnesia😂 when it favors the patriarchy everyone is happy but when it favours the woman then suddenly traditions and culture sets in😢

Claudia Goldin's nobel prize winning research on the gender pay gap is referenced at 34:30, without really saying what the research uncovered. This ought to be a much, much, MUCH more nuanced conversation that goes beyond indignation at the existence of the pay gap to a mature discussion into why the gap exists, and what can be done about it. Spoiler: men are not being paid more simply because they are men.

From my experience, while these realities are known and repeatedly discussed, any real attempt to introduce meaningful reform that would enable women to thrive better are almost always frowned upon and bitterly resisted - by women too! This is a discussion that needs to be held at all levels, including at the national and global level

The issues of equity to me is mind boggling. Women wanted equality , they were given and ability to make choice and participate in all the male dominated field. Immediately, they feel Men are biologically predispose to thrive better in many field, now Women wants equity. I believe the ground should be level for both boys and girls at the early stages of life and same opportunity presented to them but when it reach outcome level; merit should be applied and the best proven candidates takes the day.
What NGO's, Companies and parastatals do is; 10 people do interview, whether women were among the best candidates or not, she has to be selected for a given slots. Its only merit that should applied.
Secondly; Women also needs to start advocating for equal representation in male dominated blue collar jobs like digging trenches, construction and the rest, then men will take them serious. Its should not only be advocating for Top CEO or managerial roles cause its juicy. Those places needs merit not equity !

What is male privilege in 2024? Asking honestly, not for kavuyo. Help me see it, because the prevailing sentiment is that all men have it but are willfully ignoring it.

    • @kirabozeridahsarah
      @kirabozeridahsarah Месяц назад +4

To add to everything else discussed in the video, the privilege for men in 2024 in my opinion lies in the lack of barriers to entry or the discouragement that women often face when trying to participate.
It’s not always about what men have that women don't; rather, it’s about the access men enjoy that women have to fight for. As a man, you can often step into spaces, roles, and opportunities without the systemic obstacles or societal discouragement that women encounter needing to prove that you deserve it, making it easier for men to succeed while women must overcome additional hurdles just to reach the same starting point, and it's grossly unfair and these experiences add up.
If you want to recognize male privilege, look for the things you automatically receive or that are conferred to you simply by virtue of being a man.

    • @philipmuhire3152
      @philipmuhire3152 Месяц назад +8

As far as I can tell, women are being encouraged to participate. 'Access', in modern times, is a largely level playing field.
There seems to be this strange idea that men get things handed to them on a silver platter.
From time immemorial, men have had to fight and prove their worth for everything they want.
This is no less true in 2024. You want this academic qualification? You have to beat men (and women) who may be smarter than you.
You want this great job? You have to beat men and women who are just as qualified as you are.
You want customers for your business? Funding? You're really up against it in 2024 when competing for funding against women. You have to fight for it.
You have so much to prove to a potential mate in 2024, as well. She's not sliding herself onto a silver platter. 😅 She's got options!
Men fight hard every day. They win some, lose a lot, and are expected to get on with it, and largely we do, with little to no fuss, because nobody is interested in man tears.
The reproductive thing is a thorny issue. Men don't get cramps, or periods. Testosterone (post puberty) is largely stable and doesn't make us crazy 50% of the time.😂
Men, of course, don't get pregnant, and don't have to recover from pregnancy.
      Men do not lactate.
Men do not have to deal with these things in the pursuit of professional excellence/wealth.
I can tell you, from interactions with other men of my generation, that in 2024 we love our children and want to be with them.
It's hard to have everything we want on the same plate. It's hard to get lots of time with your family alongside building a successful business/career, and I can see how it's even harder for women.
Not sure what more can be done on a system level.
Couples, however, have a fighting chance. You can come to some sort of comprehensive agreement with your partner to get what you both want out of life. Much wisdom and maturity is required.
I think the solutions, if they exist, are not to be found in boardrooms or in parliament. I think they will be found with men and women sitting across from each other and agreeing on support systems that fit their unique situations.
      My two cents.
