  • I wondered what is inside. This drill chuck is sealed in non-demountable manner.

Very nice of You to sacrifice a chuck to show how it works. Great video , I really enjoyed it.
Thank You for the tip about the jaws assembly , in that , they are numbered. I can just see myself assembling and re-assembling a chuck ???× before realizing I should have marked them like you did.
You're a good man Mr. Pete , always greatful for your knowledge and a big Thank You , Sir.

Nice video - and quiet ;-). When the chuck of my Bosch drill got stuck, I was able to fix it by first flushing with silicon spray and next generously applying silicon grease. While doing this, the range of movement became bigger & bigger until it functioned as new.

Thank you for your instructive Video , I had to pull a 1/2” chuck I am modifying to fit a jig I am making to sharpen drill bits , I was half way to disaster when I checked on you tube and found your clip . Luckily I have a lathe and was able to remove half the crimp and reduce the thickness of the remainder so I could force it out of the groove , now I can reassemble and re crimp the remaining portion Thank you again I would probably destroyed the chuck had I carried on .

Interesting. Thanks for that. I've had chucks getting very stiff due to dust / dirt getting in, when e.g. drilling into ceilings. So I soak them in white spirit & work them open / closed several times to flush out the dirt.

Nicely done video and yes you are right, those things would need some special press tooling and a lot of force to open without doing what you did. Though I would have just given it a lick with a cutoff disc while it is spinning in the drilling machine.
This is why I love those one-piece keyless drill chucks, they are easily disassembled by unscrewing the cover, cleaned and returned to service. But even though the name is keyless, I still recommend the ones that have 3 or 4 holes around the chuck so that you can tighten them properly with a pin/hook spanner.

Now that I know, I would drill a hole in each side of the press cover to remove, and use pins

I had a similar problem. The drill chuck was open and I could not clamp a drill bit into it. I applied some lubricant into the space or groove that is between the inner fixed part and the outer revolving part of the drill chuck. After 24 hours or more, I could loosen my drill chuck.

Thanks. I enjoyed and learned. My old (from about 1980) Craftsman doesn't hold drill bits very well. I tighten the chuck as much as I can, but they slide. Do you think a chuck will take care of it? I assumed that there were some teeth or something that grabbed the bit that were worn, but I didn't see anything like that on your video. Any ideas? Thanks.....

Not bad though. I have big wood projects coming. So i can have a drill bit in 1 and a screw bit in the other one.
