I have many “favorite” songs from Kansas. At different times in my life, each has played a special part. John Elefante sings these incredible lyrics as well as any man ever could. I’m thankful for how this song spoke to my heart.

You are right - I did check my '84 concert and it's listed. If I get a chance in the next few days, I'll see who sang Robby's part...

Man, what you find on YT. I was checking out the interview Kerry did on the 700 Club many years ago. And "Crossifre" opened the clip.
My first exposure to "Crossfire" was actually as the theme song for a Dallas based Christian rock program that ran about a year or two on the old Zoo in the mid 80s. Needless to say, I was surprised when I found the song today. Thanks for bringing back memories

This is when Kansas played all the music the way it was on the album....When Kerry was at the helm they were tight and played with passion. Today's Kansas I feel play a watered down version of almost everything in their set . I wish Greg Robert would rejoin so many of the keyboard lines would be played again and many of the great old music would be performed .

This one song was the crowning pinnacle of Kerry's message about salvation and eternal life. He reached more people with the truth about Christ with this one song. The fact that Walsh refused to sing the lyrics only serve as confirmation of the truthfulness of them. Walsh was, and is a lost soul.

I don't think they played Crossfire on the Drastic Measures tour. If they did, Michael Gleason or Warren Ham could have sung Robby's part.

Warren Ham. He would would later join Kerry Livgren's post-Kansas band "AD".

Why they don t play this song live anymore?

    • @ClassicTVMan1981X

Probably because of Kerry's Christian lyrics; Steve Walsh cited that as the reason for his 1981 departure.

Kerry Livgren is a true artist!! Thumbs up. And the band only got better after Walsh threw his little tantrum and left. Silly man.

The band didn't get better after Walsh left. Heck no. Because then Steinhardt left and Drastic Measures was a poor pop album except for 3 songs Livgren contributed. Then Walsh came back and Power from 86 was a solid album.

Steve Walsh was great singer and was replaced for one great singer too, John Elefante.

Great song on such an underrated album. Probably the closest voice to match Steve Walsh’s. Too bad JE’s time with Kansas was short due to health.

Did this song ever get any airtime on Christian radio?

  • @vanhouten64

This is probably the most overtly christian song Kansas ever did. Still it's a pretty good song in my opinion. I liked both of the Elefante albums though obviously I prefer Walsh.
