I think either the manga or fanbase called it the Lifeforce Kamehameha. Like Roshi put what energy he had left on top of his life energy to use it. Like how Tien uses the Tribeam (Kikoho) using life energy. It results in a more powerful ki blast but over usage can and will cause death. Roshi basically pooled everything into that Kamehameha knowing it would likely kill him.
Which is one of the few ways he can die, AFAIK. (Immortality tends to negate that on a general level- though I would've loved to see him at The Mahogany Desk and King Yemma go "Wait, dude, you're immortal; go on back. NEXT!"

And it could be argued that had 18 not let her guard down when she thought she killed that one fighter, which resulted in him blasting her off the stage and into the void, Krillin would have stuck to Gohan's plan and continued fighting with Roshi, Piccolo, Tien and Gohan, but he put himself in a more dangerous situation just to at least try and save his wife, and him saving 18 from elimination is a huge win for Universe 7, so while he may not have gotten more people out or lasted longer, he was smart enough and confidant enough to know that between him or 18, she is the stronger fighter and going forward in the tournament it is more beneficial if she not be eliminated versus him. As again Krillin very easily could have stuck to Gohan's plan; remained with the group and just allowed 18 to be eliminated, no one on Universe 7 would have questioned him for it; as Roshi, Tien, Piccolo, and Gohan where the same distance away from 18 as Krillin was; and none of them risked jumping off the edge to save her. Ultimately Krillin's love for his wife is what got him eliminated so quickly; but if you were to ask him he would gladly do it again. And it is actions those type of actions that Krillin does that answers why 18 is with Krillin; he was willing to do, what stronger fighters like Piccolo, Gohan, 17, Frieza, Vegeta, and Goku weren't willing to do and that is just leap off into the void to rescue a downed teammate; there was no hesitation on Krillin's part; he was going to get to his wife and save her.

Hey Melon, Guys here! I totally agree, when this episode first aired it became one of my favorites. Both the Japanese dub and English dub Roshi did a wonderful job (especially during the Kamehameha). It's a beautiful nod to DB indeed! As for Krillin, it's actually quite a shame because when they were writing those episodes, the writers didn't really "piggy back" off each other. That's why you'll notice certain odd behaviors coming from 17 and 18 especially after. It is what it is 🤷♂️ However, it is also important to know that Krillin had done something (before he was eliminated) that will end up playing a huge role later on in the tournament. 😉
Omg like alot of people have said, i got misty eyed watching this episode 😢😅 but it was in the SUBS i saw it first and by the gods, that was an experience lmao but my respect for Roshi went even further when he did that last monologue while charging his Kamehameha. I know we treat death as a gimmick at this point in the DB Universe, but it still hit me thinking that Roshi would die in this tournament
NGL I think Master Roshi SHOULD have died. Because it would have been the perfect send-off for him. Being in the tournament for the universe, taking out 3 strong fighters, all the callbacks from OG DB, AND A MOTIVATIONAL MONOLOGUE? The setup was too good!
As cool as this ep was every time i see it i cant help but feel like they did my man roshi dirty in the anime my man roshi was the goat in the manga bro was built different
I absolutely love these videos, but I wonder why you didn't start from the beginning episodes to see some things, like the return of the Evil Containment Wave ?
10:15 You're too young for that reference. It's not Dance Dance Revolution - it's the Konami Code. An old cheat code that showed up in a lot of games back in the 8-bit and 16-bit eras
This is the absolute best Master Roshi has ever been in the entire franchise because they not only (mostly) got rid of his skeeviness, but he showed that if he were as strong as Gohan or Piccolo he would be the absolute best fighter in all of Universe 7. He has over 300 years of experience, he has tons of techniques designed to stun, incapacitate or even straight up knock out opponents FAR stronger than him, and he learns and adapts faster than even the brightest young prodigies. It’s also why he’s a top tier fighter in DBFZ! Also the dub for this episode is far better, not just in terms of acting, but also because in the suns when the girl Roshi is about to fight runs away she says “He’ll make me undesirable as a wife” and the dub instead changed it to be more modern and less sexist towards women.
12:19 - Need to remind you, there's more (universe opponents) in the ring. Think about that. Then ALL Of the universe will eliminate him then Goku will get eliminated himself. And don't forget about the universe 11 Strongest fighter who hasn't moved a muscle yet.
When the sub was coming out, there were Twitter accounts and RUclips channels focused on keeping up fighter stats. I tried to recommend an account, but the tweets in question were deleted for whatever reason. Also, it's been a while since I watched it, but my takeaway watching the sub was very much Roshi threatening to rape that girl.
It took some work, but I found a sub version. Looks like I thought that due to poor (over-little) translation and that he actually said the same thing in both versions.
Goku is one of those who can actually revive like fat Buu. It happened in First Cooler fight when Goku revives that dying Little Sparrow bird and then later in dragonball super he also revived himself .
So I haven't watched DB other then clips and a few episodes here and there, but didn't Goku at some point during the this tournament talk about how he doesn't use blue right off the bat due to it being such a massive drain on his energy? I mean it makes sense why he wouldn't want to use it unless it was a last resort, in this type of battle you don't want to waste all your power on one enemy when there's still a bunch left
Its a jar with a seal on it its not a weapon the evil containment is the weapon therefore its not illegal Just wanted to say that also This was one of my favorite parts of the tournament great Video as well
True but either way that jar can cause no harm to anyone in that tournament so yeah zeno came in clutch but in reality that jar was no threat to anyone lol its just a jar with a seal so yeah zeno said its fun more then likely because they couldn't articulate why its fun just always has been my opinion on why they let it slide also tools has been another word for weapons since forever so i always took it as that
I'm sorry but you an everyone else gonna have to put respect on Roshis name, He trained to stop being perverted, Know what happens a 300 yo Perverted Martial Artist stops being perverted? All that's left is 300 years of Whoop Ass, also Zeno makes the rules he can change them. Wanna mess with the God of Gods?
The Japanese version of that first win with Master Roshi was VERY different. So I understand why you are confused. If you watch the Japanese version you will understand what happens here...

Been a fan of dragon ball since i was 5. Im 32 now and this hit me hard 😢
Roshi was actually reciting the infamous Konami code!
8:16 melon looking to get erased
One of my favorite episodes
You're gonna be feeling some with the next ep.
10:15
B A START!
I approve this battle sequence
6:52 No, this is nothing from movies.
13:08 Yeah, Super does that a lot. Not just here and not just with DB, Z as well.
Not me crying over roshi this ep.
14:39 massive W from melon
Thats Nintendo up down up down left right left right a b a b start select at around 11 minutes
Goku is one of those who can actually revive like fat Buu. It happened in First Cooler fight when Goku revives that dying Little Sparrow bird and then later in dragonball super he also revived himself .
I like this episode alot when it came out
Haven't you watched Future Trunks Arc ? Evil containment was briefly shown in that arc
Its a jar with a seal on it its not a weapon the evil containment is the weapon therefore its not illegal Just wanted to say that also This was one of my favorite parts of the tournament great Video as well
I believe the rule was no outside tools. So it should be illegal but Zenos came in clutch
True but either way that jar can cause no harm to anyone in that tournament so yeah zeno came in clutch but in reality that jar was no threat to anyone lol its just a jar with a seal so yeah zeno said its fun more then likely because they couldn't articulate why its fun just always has been my opinion on why they let it slide also tools has been another word for weapons since forever so i always took it as that
they force this kind of moments into happening XD that's why I prefer fan mangas like DB multiverse as a continuation for db Z
I thought roshi was going to use solar flare on the darkness lady.
I mean, Master R did technically die, heart stopped and hung out in the afterlife for a bit. Can't keep this old coot down tho.
I don’t see what’s so emotional about Roshi taking a poorly timed nap. Or at least that’s what Goku implied.
Goku at first thought that Roshi died. Once he was able to recover he jokingly says maybe he just passed out
10:15 how did it take me until now to recognize the Konami Code 😅
The evil containment wave is the Mafuba move that Piccolo talks about in Abridged. See the pot?
You said the Eagle guy was Bakugo however Bakugo’s english VA plays Cabba in DBS I don’t know if he plays the Eagle guy or not
Nighteye's VA voices Ganos, the eagle guy
I'm sorry but you an everyone else gonna have to put respect on Roshis name, He trained to stop being perverted, Know what happens a 300 yo Perverted Martial Artist stops being perverted? All that's left is 300 years of Whoop Ass, also Zeno makes the rules he can change them. Wanna mess with the God of Gods?
I'm so proud of my old pervert !
The Japanese version of that first win with Master Roshi was VERY different. So I understand why you are confused. If you watch the Japanese version you will understand what happens here...
W vid and reaction 💯 #Melongang
