  • 10 Song synthwave inspired album with roots in 80s pop music. We started writing these songs in August 2022. Meems wrote 10 beats on the MPC Live 2, Tefty wrote 10 beats in Ableton. We pruned the selection down to 10 and that's what became this album. 90% of the synth sounds came from the Cobalt5s. The other sounds were a few Hydrasynth and Peak patches to fill out parts. All the finalized drums were programmed on the MPC One using our Syntaktical Expression kits.

    Master's of this night has a very Muse-like base line. I'm digging' this. Nice synthwave-pop.

    Simply great. don't blame me tefty - you're doing a great job - but the voice of meems, fantastic. But I also really like your work with the synths. I guess I'll have to buy the album. Wouldn't be the first.

    Hi! It’s me again. I just wanted to say that I’m totally hooked on this music, I listen to this album almost on a daily basis. I’d love to make music like this and sing my own lyrics ❤

    Very well done ----- nicely done. I would like to hear an album that features Meems doing some out front vocals instead of using her like an instrument in the mix.

    That Friday goodness! Thanks man. PS: been meaning to ask if you offer private lessons. I'm relatively new to the world of synthesis and would like to learn how to make my own bread-and-butter sounds, the basics, basses, pads, leads. Love your easygoing approach and am super grateful for your videos.

    What an awesome music! I enjoy it a lot!
    Meanwhile a quick question - doesn't Cobalt feel somewhat excessive if you already have Peak?

    • @TeftyMeems
      @TeftyMeems  Год назад +1

      Thank you Alexander!
      For synths, they all have different characters. Even though the Cobalt is purely digital, the engineers imbued some distinct character into the sound engine and gave it a vibe. The Peak has a distinct vibe, as well. If you're starting out, these differences will be subtle and hard to hear. It's like hearing the difference between Neve, API, or Tube driven preamp.
      And the reason for picking the Cobalt over the Peak to write? Mood and inspiration. I find limiting myself to one synth to initially write something has creative rewards! It's not always this way, but when the inspiration strikes, I run with it.

      @k3wlzyz0p Год назад

      @@TeftyMeems Thanks for the answer! I've asked this since I own the Peak and wanted to to get a Cobalt too. Unfortunately there were no Cobalts available to try where I live, so I checked forums and Reddit where people told Cobalt has similar sound to Peak (and I looked for something more aggressive to accompany Peak), but I doubt any of them owned both synths like you do! :)

    • @TeftyMeems
      @TeftyMeems  Год назад +1

      Interesting! So yeah, to my ears, definitely different flavors. The Peak can do WAY more complex sounds. The modulation system is better, the FX are better, and it has a legit distortion that's tasty. That being said, the vibe and unique oscillator modifiers on the Cobalt make it a fun and enjoyable synth to perform.
      You mentioned something more aggressive than the Peak? The Cobalt5s will not do it. It doesn't have distortion built in. The Cobalt8 firmware 2 added distortion FX, and they're good! But I wouldn't say it's better than the Peak for aggressive tones. The Moog synths really shine in this department. Or a Sequential Pro 3. Or add a distortion pedal to a Cobalt.
      Hope that helps!

    • @k3wlzyz0p
      @k3wlzyz0p Год назад

      @@TeftyMeems Thanks! By aggressiveness I mean not just the dirtiness, but the bite as well. It could come from the raw synth tone too. I've had a Minibrute 2s for some time and it sounded pretty aggressive without even me touching the feedback knob :)
      For my ear Peak is rather mellow in the top end and quite bottom-heavy. I love this for any lush pads, melodic leads or plucks. But I struggled a lot when tried making a snappy percussive synthwave bass, you know - something similar to classic "Polysix Fat Line Bass". It always sounded too fat for that. The only way I found to overcome it was using FM, but that is not straightforward at all.
      Thanks for the Pro 3 recommendation, it really sounds like almost ideal solution for me - the sound, the modulation capabilities, the effects! The only thing that worries me about it is that they don't have a desktop version. I'm not a professional and play when the inspiration strikes. The good think about MPC, Peak or Hydrasynth module is that they are compact, so you could just place them on your table and start using it when the inspiration strikes. For the same reason I have guitars hanging on the wall nearby, so I could just grab them with a single motion and play! When the synth is too large to live on your desktop and you have to take it from the stand behind or from the closet and connect it - a lot of time you'd just feel lazy to do so and will try to do the sound on the other synth, which just sits plugged in front of you :)

    • @TeftyMeems
      @TeftyMeems  Год назад +1

      Ahhhh yes, I get what you're saying. I find the Model D (Boog) has that built in aggression right from the get. It seems to have to do with the internal mixer getting saturated, along with the filter and VCA circuits. Some synths allow you to 'push' into these circuits harder than normal. You might even look at the Moog Grandmother or Matriarch. Or even the Sub37 variants. The Pro3 can get you there as well, but the Moog offerings seem to be designed for fatness straight away.
