"to have your heart in the right (correct) place" means to be a good person in German. He sings; "THEY want my heart in the right (right) place, but when I look down* it beats left" (*in my heart look) - he then usually lifts his right leg (like a pissing dog) well seen here in the video.
Rammstein also never tells you to understand the song one way or the other, but form your own opinion. In the Making Offs you usually have 6 opinions.
Die Zeile ist ein Wortspiel, was im englischen nicht so funktioniert:
"das Herz am rechten (RICHTIGEN) Fleck zu haben" bedeutet ein guter Mensch zu sein im Deutschen. Er singt; "SIE wollen mein Herz am rechten (rechts) Fleck, doch wenn ich nach unten* schau, dann schlägt es links" (*in mein Herz schaue) - er hebt dann meist sein rechtes Bein (wie ein pissender Hund) hier in dem Video gut zu sehen.
Rammstein sagt auch nie ihr sollt das Lied so oder so verstehen, sondern bilde dir deine eigene Meinung. In den Making Offs hast meist 6 Meinungen.

Very fun and enjoyble reaction, good stuff! Absolute raw power and one of their earlier bangers. The song is a response to people claiming that Rammstein were political extreme-right (usually connected with Nazi in Germany) so they made a song explicitly claiming they are on the oposite of that: on the left (links) spectrum in politics. Awesome!

@@Kurisutah Think of what? If they are extreme rigth? Of course they are not! They have multiple examples of the oposite. And the song meaning really is this. They said it in an interview.
@@arc6017 Nah, they're not right but neither left, more somewhere in middle. Which is reasonable, no-one really should associate themselves with either extremes as crazies are on both sides. Take all with grain of salt but also with best of both. Their songs also show that they point out issues and hypocrisy of all extremes. No extreme is good, better to retain levelled head.

"links 2 3 4" is a german military marching pattern, already used by the "wehrmacht". a bit strange to see a big french audience shouting to this. rammstein know how to put on a performance and like to provoke a little. always great to hang out with you..thank you so much.

The meaning of the song ..... my personal interpretation : in Germany one is quickly and usually wrongly suspected of being too far-right or even a Nazi. Till often rolls the " R " when he sings, which is why some German ultra-left people want to denounce him because they fantasize that they Rammstein love the Third Reich ?? !! :-( ? :-(
But Rammstein is not on the right and they are no Nazis, even if they look martial and of all things with a marching - song they press that out " my heart beats left ".
Tbh it's more sensationalist yellow press than left-ish people. I think everyone who is a bit left-ish would know about the bands GDR punk roots.

@@Kurisutah Pleasure is all mine! I'm not sure if Melbourne has changed (I've only been away for a bit more than a year), I'll have to check for myself in a few weeks time. I haven't been back to Melbourne since the whole covid mess started (I moved to Brisbane beginning March last year, beating the border closures by about a week). Heading south to visit old friends for an extended Easter weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing Melbourne again, especially my favorite breakfast place, "Higher Ground" on Little Bourke St. (The mushroom side dish being a personal favourite) :)
As for Rammstein, yeah, they don't shy away from telling stories with painful themes

Don´t want to argue but the song is called "Links 2 3 4" which means "left 2 3 4" and is a german command for marching in the army. Your "Link 2 3 4" sounds more like a "connect 2 3 4" which doesn´t makes sense. But i guess it´s just a typing error ;)

This song is a response of not being nazis. The media called nazis and they made this song. This song is no about being left wing, all the band members have their opinion. Flake in an online interview for fans on internet in 2005 said that basically they can make powerfull music without being nazi, if you think that the song is about being left wing you had the wrong message.
