Thanks for watching! Авто/Мото
Great choice. And an awesome deal it sounds like you got. Thanks for mentioning the range in your CX-30. Really wanted a turbo in that but that was even less range. Sounds a little petty but if you drive a lot each week, multiple gas station trips are annoying.
I have a 2021 Mazda CX-30 and I just filled up today and got 330 miles out of a tank. I do primarily city driving but my car is non-turbo AWD.
My uncle has a 21 platinum he custom ordered and he loves it. Averages 36 for his commute. He works for an interior designer for the auto makers
Hey! Been waiting for this video for awhile! Had a Highlander rental to drive cross country and was a great car through and through. Definitely think this is one of most versatile for the everyday shopper and a great buy on Tophers behalf
Love the channel and the car Topher! I personnally enjoy seeing what city folks drives lol. My sister just bought one to drive to town with her kids. way smoother than my Duramax let me tell ya haha. All them red light and traffic ain't for me lol.
Keep them video coming!
I've watched this review at least 3 times and I'm very sure my dad would be happy with a 2023 hybrid limited because he's been wanting one for a while
Changing wheels and tires really smart, I have xle model with same tires and wheels also that was the reason I stick with xle model .super comfortable in east coast bumpy roads. I average between 36-40 mpg in city driving. Nice Video
Regarding the rattling in the back, make sure to put the the seat belt inserts in the plastic holders when they are not being used and it should get more quiet. We have a 2021 Platinum and I think it is great.
Great choice! I've got a 22 Highlander XLE V6 in the same color combo and love it!
Chris, You and your wife made a wise choice. 👏👏👏You put your money where your mouth is in regard to the Toyota Hybrids you have praised in the past as the Highlander's mpg is just outstanding. I hope you start an overdue trend by ADDING sidewall . BTW you have a genuine 3,500 lbs tow capacity if you need it. Have you already booked your appointment at Krown? 🤔Happy trails!😁
You speaking from personal experience helps contextualize/back up your words a lot
Congrats on the purchase, great choice. That CVT acceleration at 6:55 is a little a little painful to watch. I wish Toyota/Lexus would develop a geared transmission for their hybirds or use their 6-speed in the RX500h.
If the upcoming CX-70 plug-in is well priced, it may be my choice to replace my '19 Mazda 3. Also hoping for a nicer next gen Prius for my GF.
2-3 times fill-ups with 300 mile range means you drive 600-900 miles per week. Thats a lot! Annual would be 32,400-46,800 miles. The Highlander looks like a stylish living room on wheels!
No way, Chris! I couldn’t believe you traded the CX-30 for this. I mean this is a larger and more premium of a car, but perhaps not as sporty to drive compared to Mazda. And boy, am I behind on keeping up? I didn’t realize you sold the 4Runner too! Wow! Thanks for the video!
Hi @TheTopher, great review! Got a hard question, what would be your pick - brand new maxed out Highlander or 3yo Audi Q7 3.0tdi with some low mileage? Keep doing good work!
I think Toyota Hybrids are the best daily-driver powertrains on the road for most people and most situations. They're rock solid, super smooth (the smoothest ICE experience there is), relatively powerful, and insanely reliable - not to mention fuel efficient as can be. What more could you want? I love my '21 Corolla Hybrid. It's been hands down the best car I've ever owned. No joke, I can easily get over 70MPG if I try.
Man, the droning. And the rattling. The MPG are no doubt impressive, but this video makes my wife's Atlas sound like a true luxury product by comparison.
My sister got a 2022 Highlander Hybrid and I got a ‘22 F150 a month later. The F150 feels luxurious in the sense that I can get in and zone out and not think about what it’s doing, the Highlander it seemed like a rattle or the engine note was always intruding, or I was nervously trying to keep it in EV mode so I wouldn’t have to hear the engine groaning.
Make a video of the Atlas. Cars always sound louder in videos than in the actual drive, IMO. And this is a former press vehicle where it was driven hard.
I have the platinum version of this car, and the only gripe I have is the location of the wireless charger. It makes it very hard to access the center console storage, and it's in a very awkward position.
Otherwise, great purchase! You can easily get 38+ mpg if you avoid hills and drive below 65 mph on eco.
Agreed, I’ve thought about just pulling the wireless charger out sometime
I wish they brought the infotainment software setup from the Tundra and Sequoia to the Highlander
The 2023 Highlander has it!
Congrats it’s nice
I'm curious what mpg do you tend to get on long +100mi trips on the highway? At what speed do you stay at to achieve it? It'll be interesting to see how this hybrid compares to the upcoming Grand highlander if they do offer the same drive train.
I have one 2021 Limited, it's very cool
Congrats! Now I’m curious how big of a discount Toyota gave y’all for a press car 👀
It would be great to have a winter update, with the rubbers you put on it, gas mileage and on-road behavior.
Once we get some snow I’ll film it! Fuel economy usually drops from ~32-33mpg combined to 28-29mpg combined in the winter though that was with the 20” wheels last year, 18s should be slightly better.
Nice interior! I'd be curious to know what the actual MPG is. Toyota computers tend to give you a slightly conservative number compared to the real math.
Oh those were all at the pump calculations, yeah the computers are always off
I think I know what car to get now as a first time buyer
What made you go with Highlander over the CX-9? Hybrid/more room for the kiddo?
hayırlı olsun
Did you switch the limited hybrid wheels for the XLE hybrid wheels
I also prefer higher tire sidewalls. How did you go about getting the smaller wheels - did you buy them used and what did you do w the old larger wheels?
A set popped up locally on fb Marketplace. Then I just sold the 20” the same way 👍
Idk about paying 50 grand just to constantly hear the car struggle to get up to speed. My v6 is a lot quieter and smoother ride.
Yeah also the v6 is very reliable & will last you a long time
Unless you drive a lot slow hybrid for so
Much money isn’t worth it
I've driven both and the V6 is not smoother. It's louder on average and you get more vibrations because you don't have the electric motor.
@@scriptedhuman yeah cus when you test drive you only got 20-30 round the block
Higher speeds v6 is better
I have the same engine in rx350
@@reddevil6585 whatever helps you justify your purchase. The V6 is great, but hybrids are the best. Toyota thinks so, too.
Bruh I'm glad I didn't get the hybrid version it takes time to get upto speed and I need that extra Horsepower to get upto speed while merging on the highway so the V6 is kinda alright lol.
What a beautiful dash! Dash looks like a geometry box and I like geometry box ..no not really :((
Your wife is very lucky
Thanks. Limited trim w/ a 2nd row bench? I thought the bench wasn't available on the hybrid-limited? Any more info on this ? thanks
Maybe because it’s a press car or pre production. Just a guess 🤷🏼♂️
Interest to know too
You can order a bench or captains chairs on higher trims at no cost
Any mechanical issues with the CX-30? A relative test drove one yesterday and is really considering going back today to purchase it.
It was solid! We put a worry free and enjoyable 17k miles on it.
Nice. I think that will be the move.
I rode in it during the test drive and was amazed at how upscale it felt - it was a loaded model.
Definitely a nice ride.
Did you buy this from a Toyota dealership? Also, did you trade in your Mazda or did you sell your Mazdas to another company like CarMax?
Sold the Mazda to Vroom, got $27k! Which was insane.
I was in an uber and the car sounded like an electric car. I haven't heard that sound in any of these car review. Does anyone know what the sound is and how they make their car sound electric?
Just wondering:
1) Did you get undercoating for your Hybrid?
- My Toyota dealership won't do it due to electrical access panel underside.
2) Do you have electronic rear-view mirror?
- Does it display "star burst" effect fr other cars when driving at night?
Why do people say that Highlander Hybrid is nice & quiet? ..."Lexus-like"? That is NOT TRUE. Due to electrical panel/access, Toyota dealership told me that they will not do undercoating on this Hybrid. Plus, the electronic rear-view mirror: at night, it displays "star burst" effect fr headlights on other cars -- extremely poor quality. If I knew this, I would not have bought my '21 Highlander Hybrid Platinum.
Did the 2021 Highlanger Hybrid Limited come with bench seat option? I know the new ones dont
It did!
What type of mountain bike do you have? I’m curious now that you mentioned it 😅
Haha a niner full suspension and a trek fat tire for winter riding 🥶
I currently have the CX-30 it’s not a bad vehicle quality wise but man fuel economy on that car is just bad 😬
Rattles sounded horrible on the potholes… my Camry hybrid 2021 so got me thinking maybe i should not upgrade
I agree. Its probably the carseat just bouncing and shaking but if the curb weight is 4600 then gross weight is closer to 6,000 pounds and that means it has truck-like suspension as far as the stiffness of springs.
Most of those rattles are from the car seat quick release
would look so nice with oem tow hitch - shop around I paid $350 installed for the OEM and cut made in bumper
I think Toyota should cut out bumper or change shape in all these vehicles
@@jamesmedina2062 normally yes, though I found out when buying the one hitch it comes with a cut-out bumper and everything you need as I bought extras thinking it didn't go with it.
@@AppleiOSGenius So you are saying you can get a different bumper from Toyota or from someone else? Obviously you don't need it with this hitch. In my car the exhaust is right in the center so none of this would work in my Civic!
@@jamesmedina2062 no it will be the exact same bumper but look at it close it is in separate pieces so they detach a portion that is cliped on and now you have a split bumper, for an exhaust in the middle the tow hitch would normally be right above it.
Where is the noise deadening? Wow is that suv loud
Debating from highlander hybrid or sienna
Could you please tell why did you swipe to 18 inch wheels!
He mentioned reasons. Better fuel economy. Bigger sidewalls equals better ride comfort and especially on Michigan's rough, pothole filled roads.
That’s definitely a 2020 because I have this same car and my audio system doesn’t look like that
Hey can I buy it from you
Just joke
I like driving my highlander while I'm high
40k when you could build a 2023 hybrid limited to your liking for 8,000 more. 👎🏼
Keep dreaming. No where in US you can get '23 in that price range.
Nothing about this car makes me smile
Toyota paint quality, even straight from the factory, is crap.
Edit: for MSRP, a Pathfinder is a better overall vehicle.
Knowing Nissan’s track record on reliability… I doubt it will last as long as the Highlander. Nissan always has a crappy reputation on quality and a lower resale value. I would stick to Toyota or Honda for the money.
The paint quality is fine. And if you care about reliability, the pathfinder is garbage.
@@scriptedhuman No, it's not. I am literally the guy at the Toyota dealer I work for who has to fix all the paint quality issues on every new vehicle before delivery. And you're just a typical Nissan hater, with no experience to back it up. Pathfinders have always been reliable. Keep hating.
the new Nissans are well-engineered and attractive cars. I think they need 2-3 more years to prove reliability.
