After Toyota proved they could make an AWD hybrid Rav4 that gets to 60 in under 8 seconds and can get 40MPG, there was no reason for the Prius to be as slow as it was. This is finally a no-compromises Prius.

Why not just get a Honda Civic SI and still get 40mpg .____. After seeing how efficient and fun a Civic SI can be I dont think I can ever go back to a Hybrid, not even this one. The average from multiple reviews has been 44mpg or so. Barely more than an SI with less power and less fun. Makes no sense.

    • @SandvichTrolli48
      @SandvichTrolli48 Год назад +1

@@TheWhisperingPenis Because a Civic SI is tiny compared to a Rav4 Hybrid, a SI is manual only, not everyone cares to "have fun" with their car but rather simply to get from Point A to Point B in comfort. You're comparing completely different types of cars.
Why get a Honda Civic SI when you can have a Tesla Model 3, it does everything better than a SI and is fun and more efficient, I don't think I can ever go back to a manual gas car....etc.

The more I look at the interior the more I actually like its simplicity. So many new cars are so busy and complicated and this has what you need, and nothing more. Having the display up high like that actually makes it usable and safer, you don't have to look down and take your eyes so far off the road.
The styling is actually really cool for a Prius and a modern Toyota. I think the best next move should be a mini pickup like the Maverick. I'd probably honestly take that over a Maverick.

TBH, I really liked the old interior as well, you even see more of the road ahead and behind you + if you had a HUD, you did not have to get eyes off the road (no HUD option for the new one).
I can't wait to get my hands on PHV 2023 variant, but I feel it will be more of a sidegrade in a lot of aspects - bit bigger boot, more power, a bit more range, a ton more tire noise with 19" compared to older 15", higher power consumption for electric part etc.
I am really curious to see the new PHV, because even if Prius HEV looks really nice, it will pretty much live in the shadow of Corolla and Civic, that have pretty much the same power, same consumption, but are cheaper. Likewise, I am not even surprise Toyota won't sell Prius HEV in Europe, does not really make a sense, sales would be pretty abysmal.

The Prius has always been a well-engineered and highly durable vehicle, but now it has looks and power! I'm constantly searching for a reason to get rid of my 2012 Prius but it refuses to give me one. Didn't even have to get new brake pads until over 100k. Such a reliable and cost effective vehicle, probably the best engineered that Toyota sells in our market. Only gripe with mine is the seats aren't comfy enough for long trips.

Get ready for 4-5 figure mark-ups. Toyota only expects to sell around 35K annually, which is only slightly more than the outgoing model sold in 2021. My guess is that they won't produce a lot of them, creating a "shortage." Stealerships will take advantage of that.

I hope they are smart enough to adjust the production line based on demand. The Toyota Crown will not sell in my opinion so they can cut production of that and ramp up production on this. Toyota messed up by copying Peugeot interior style but not doing it correctly. You can't have the instruments above the steering wheel if the steering wheel is positioned like in a normal car, and is the normal size. The steering has to be smaller and has to be cut off on top, or flattened at least. This is just idiotically bad design as it will obstruct the view for 90% of people and limits your driving position. A mistake so bad it will cost Toyota a lot as it will be a deal breaker on an otherwise almost perfect car.

Happy to see that Toyota put a telescoping steering wheel into this car... I've driven some other Toyota models where the steering wheel was way too far forward for my liking, effectively making it feel like I had to reach, or move my seat so far forward it felt awkward - the Yaris and Corolla were horrible for this.
The more videos of this car I watch, the more convinced I am that this is the best choice for a new DD. 2023 Civic Sport Touring was high on the list... but the longevity of a small displacement, turbocharged engine made me concerned. Can't wait till these hit dealers so I can check one out!

@@ralkia You really cannot make that sort of declaration, considering the engine has only been on the market for just under 6 years, and is still suffering from the well known oil dilution problem.
Also, for some anecdotal evidence about how factory turbocharged vehicles last in the long term, all I have to do is to look at my friend's Chevy Cruze with the 1.4T. It's nine years old and has had the turbo fail three times. All the failures happened in the past few years... only has 180,000km (~112,000 miles). Each time, parts alone were close to $1000 CAD.
TLDR; Turbocharged vehicles are more complex, therefore there is more to go wrong in the long term. Whether or not it is an OEM or aftermarket setup has nothing to do with it.

Car look and seems to drive amazing.. I have an 08.. it went 423,000 miles..
I do sorta wish they had offered an ECO trim.. I might be willing to sacrifice some power for better MPG.. I drive 800+ miles per week. 65+MPG.. would been nice.. and I would make that trade for the same power as last model.. or somewhere in the middle.
Overall though... this is a really nice car.
Prius always feel fastger than the 0-60 number would indicate.. especially 0-30 or so.. IF you know how to drive it.
SO many Prius drivers...are SO SLOW.. they try and stay in EV mode..
Its NOT the way to drive it...
Put your foot in the gas.. about half way.. accelerate briskly to the speed you want and coast..

Somebody help me understand why people seem so disappointed about the reduced cargo space in the upper trims. Why do you need a bigger cargo space? Is 20 cu. ft. not enough? But aren't you worried at all about the fuel efficiency? Also, don’t you all like the premium interior options available to you now?
I think, because the upper trims put in more premium equipment, Toyota probably reduced the cargo space to offset the additional weight and thereby save the fuel efficiency. If you want a car that allows you to put more stuff/people in, shouldn't you be getting something else other than Prius? Smaller cargo space seems all logical, but wanting a cargo space just as big makes me think people are unrealistically wanting something too good to be true.

But if I had the over $30,000 to spend on a car that the baseline model 2023 Prius costs, I might consider it anyway, because it is otherwise so good looking and well built, probably. It's funny how much I liked stylish cars as a kid, but when I learned to drive myself, because i learned on my mother's VW Beetle, I got used to small, cheap, efficient cars and the idea of style, well, that's for people with more money.

Ease of entry and exit was better than I expected on this car. (I paid attention to that, having the same concern.) While it obviously won't be as easy as entering/exiting your SUV, the driver side seat (at least on XLE) can be raised to higher position, which can further help with entry and exit. (I passed on this car due to feeling too close to the ceiling and sloped windshield. Lowering my seat helped, but that reduced my visibility over the dash and protruding infotainment screen, which also made me uncomfortable.) You never know without checking it out for yourself, so it's good you got on the list. (Be sure to test moving the sun visor to side position. I had to move my head out of the way! My head is neither big nor was I sitting too close to steering wheel. 😂) Good luck!
