I like this broly way more. He’s just an unstoppable monster. You don’t have to have really complex villains every time. Sometimes it’s just nice to have a pure evil villain that just loves being a villain
Writer had to keep the series going so they had to result to cheap tactics twice to keep Broly at bay if Broly's a hero DBZ or GT series gets brutal fast.

When it's certain high quality moments I don't mind it much as it's a cool way for him to clearly tell us "oh shit it's gettin real," but it seems like it's happening in more places than the episodes/shows he's just involved in, and I hate that.

If the guy you’re facing comes out unscathed by a point blank kamehameha, maybe it’s best to retreat

Not exactly, a cosmic horror is something so superior , so horrible, so different that the human mind struggles to understand it or doesn't understand it at all , moreover a cosmic horror is often not in any way interested in the protagonists or the concept of good or bad . Broly is all in all the opposite , we understand what he is and he does ( a fucking psyco who wants to destroy everything) he is esplicitly and openly evil and is very interested in the protagonist, so much so that he becomes obsessed with him.

Not really, two things, Paragus states that Goku's presence triggers Broly emotionally due to Goku's determination and power ("Does this mean that Broly's instincts as a Saiyan have been awakened by Kakarrot's power?").
The scene of them as babies together was to imply that they have tied destinies ("Broly and kakarrot were born on the same day...Damn! the threads of destiny have once again intertwined...").
Finally, the crying specifically is presented as something to contrast the two characters and show Goku's spirit, where infant Goku's loud wailing made infant Broly sob being a thematic parallel to show Goku's determination and spirit (again, like the first line I mentioned: "Bardock's son, with a battle power of only 2, made Paragas's son cry! His battle power may be low, but that kid...named kakarott at least has a lot of guts!") in spite of his low innate power, in contrast to Broly's emotional weakness and instability despite his huge innate power ("He's just been born, and yet his battle power is already 10,000")
second, cosmical horror means fearing the unknown or incomprehensible, Broly fits perfectly because of his unlimited terror like power, he's Saiyan's magnum opus their nature made in physical form, he cannot be killed and will always be a menace to the galaxies, its obvious he cannot be canon in this setting for plot reasons, hence why the new canon broly in dbs its much more calm and collected.

Easily my fav line. He is a cerebral bulldozer but the issue with the movies was always the end. Always felt rushed or like it was a 2nd thought to the fight itself.
I feel it's more that they were kind of written into a corner. They made Broly so overwhelmingly powerful that it kind of got away from them. The only way it could ever end with Broly being defeated is with a lame asspull.

@@Mechanomics Honestly, it's not that hard to fix. They kept emphasizing that Broly's power was barely under his control at all, constantly rising and overflowing his control. A little expository "I'm going to rupture his control of his Ki, and the power will rip him apart." neatly explains what we see happen to Broly. Goku going back to his martial arts roots and fighting smarter would have fixed that ending. Broly isn't without skill, but he doesn't have experience and martial arts knowledge. Especially Ki Control.

This is the type of Dragonball that needs to come back. Back when then villains were scary, and made the whole scenery feel creepy. Like the fight with Turles. He wasn’t the strongest, but the movie felt creepy and it felt like Goku and his team were alone.

I always thought that this final Broly transformation was sad. There was fear in his eyes. The scream was different. He's literally torn apart by the power inside of him. He’s the Saiyan of legend, they’re destined to appear once every thousand years and cause havoc throughout the universe.
I love complex villains but every once in a while, pure evil villains are refreshing to see especially when executed well. DBZ Broly definitely delivered in such a case.
I think he's not actually so simple, and he works for a number of reasons.
Him being a Saiyan is significant - he's like the shadow side of Goku and Vegeta, a reflection of the raw power and conquest of the Saiyans. Broly holds up a mirror to Goku and Vegeta and shows them what lurks beneath. It's very much a Jekyll and Hyde type of story, even though it isn't that direct. Keep in mind, The Hulk is also inspired by Jekyll and Hyde. Broly visually reads as essentailly a hulking, monstrous version of Goku or Vegeta.
The way I would have Goku defeat Broly would be a little bit more like having Goku actually confront and integrate his own destructive tendencies - which is exactly why the Saiyan transformation is so powerful, where you're reaching into the raw emotion, rage, and darkness to transform into a powerful warrior of light.
The symbolism of DBZ is actually insane, I haven't really revisited DBZ since I got into how all this symbolism actually works.
When stories are good, its because they get the symbolism right, and it happens spontaneously.

Not in the spanish. Thats the original version. The spanish guys made a good translation. But english dub is like they have no idea what the characters say because noone speaks japanese so they just improvise.

Vegeta was in shock because he didn't believe the stories of a legendary super sayan besides himself, Goku and other sayans he knew of. It's like us humans seeing the true and living GOD. We will be as astonished as Vegeta was in the mist of such a powerful presence. Broly transformed like 4 times effortlessly. The last transformation was my favorite too when Broly exploded. I got the chills several times when I first seen that last transformation, I kept rewinding that part over and over.
That's why tfs DBZ Broly movie Vegeta had that same reaction, ain't no way you are going to stand there nonchalantly in a powerful presence like it's a Tuesday for you. I would be absolutely astonished and smeckledorfed by being in such a powerful presence

This movie is pure nostalgia. There used to be an edit with Bring Me To Life playing in the background. Was so cool.
From all of the saiyans though, Vegeta arc is the one i could relate to most as having a proper human emotion. Ego got smashed by stronger characters and committed his whole existence to hard work and being stronger than anyone around, getting inspired by the one he hates aka Goku. Even when Goku went Ultra instinct, found his own Ultra ego personality. I just admire how he's written even when he isn't the saviour of the world. He's the one who grinds.
For a character he hates, Toriyama sure knows how to make Vegeta a badass
It would have been cool if there was a scene of goku and broly trading blows at the end before goku just one shots him. That would have given more value to the "real fight" beginning and ending.

The fact that Vegeta has millions of fans inspite of the series always disrespecting him, shows how much of an awesome character he is. If only he was treated a little better, his fanbase would be 10 times bigger than Goku.
Mainly cos vegeta is the most relatable character
Toriyama wanted to kill him off after saiyan saga. But fans loved him so much that he was put as a main character. Toriyama has openly said he hates vegeta and the story is all about goku being the hero so its no suprise that he conatantly disrespects him in the writing.

Anyone who felt he's falling behind in life or had a situation that looks too difficult to be surmounted at first relates hard with Vegeta's thoughts when trying to turn super Saiyan for the first time or getting his shit together after 18 whoops him
