  • This week we're finishing out our custom exhaust on the 1969 Mach 1 Fastback. You saw us fabricate the long tube headers for this big block to help the motor breathe. Now we're focusing on the sound. We're cutting some some mandrel bends to fabricate a custom x-pipe to route into the Stainless Bros mufflers. We're also welding up custom mounting brackets to make sure those mufflers aren't flopping around underneath the car when cruising down the road. Once the pipes are all welded up and clamped down onto the headers, we're taking this Mustang for a spin! This big block is chirping the tires when shifting through the gears and sounding good doing it. Have questions or comments about the build? Leave them in the comments below! And make sure to subscribe because we have new episodes coming out every week.

If that O2 sensor is pointed down, as it appears, be prepared to change it regularly. Condensation will kill it.

Solid mount exhaust. I see cracking in it's future due to thermal expansion and contraction.

Sounds great though. No LSD ? No Detroit locker ? With a Big Block ? Duuuuude.

Just for future reference, when priming a engine before first fire like you guys did just now on the mustang, disconnecting the coil was the first right move but you skipped the other, almost more important step, making sure you arent sending fuel through the engine, because without it igniting its all just pooling in the cylinders and washing the walls out messing up ring seal and cross hatch and also if you get enough fuel to wash down it gets in the oil it will destroy your bearings or even a flat tappet cam because gasoline eats the lubricating properties away from the oil etc if you were to not realize it and not drain the oil. Just thought I'd mention it, for all I know there was a electric pump with a switch that was tuned off lol

Really nice MACH 1! That exhaust stuff is so nice compaired to what I built on my 70 MACH 1 25+ yrs ago! I did 2.75in all the way back to supertrap mufflers. You might think about frame connectors in it cause I found flex in mine.Im also putting a heidts mustang 2 in mine with a 3.5 ecoboost now to replace my BUILT Cleveland

There is no substitute for pride in your craft. No matter what the finished product may be. Clean the glass , clean it right. Sweep the floor do it to the best of your ability. Take pride in yourself and your work of art you created for future generations to behold, and say wow, they knew their shit. Great Job

Cool car! Black hood needs to be matte. The matte hood comes from racedriving to avoid reflection for the driver. A shine black hood makes no sense.

This is an original factory paint car. I doubt he's going to be repainting the hood

Needs a big nasty cam. Has to be lumpy. Kinda quiet. Needs electric cut outs.

If you mount the muffler solid, how do you deal with exhaust length growth as the system heats up?

It's been such a long time we don't have the order list anymore. You can sort of look at the space you have in the engine bay, preplan your routing a bit, then order a few extra pieces just in case.

Close! They're turndowns right before the rear axel. If you go to the 8 min mark you'll be able to see exactly where the exhaust ends.
