Awesome to see Halifax patch. I'm 3 hours from there and have a few friends and colleagues who serve there that I've met at different conventions, courses and competitions.
Hey, First of all - I love all your content especially the Fire Academy series. I am a firefighter with the German Armed Forces Fire Service and love to see how the job is done around the world. But a quick little correction: The patches Connor held up and said they were from Munich, Bavaria - they are not. They are from the City of Regensburg, Bavaria. Bavarian Patches often look similar, especially the paid department ones. The triangular one is from the paid department of Regensburg and the other one from the volunteer department. (Berufsfeuerwehr = paid department; Freiwillige Feuerwehr = Volunteer Fire Department) But I'd love to one day travel over there and maybe get you some of my patches too, especially the "Bundeswehrfeuerwehr" (German Armed Forces Fire Service) one.
Great to hear you enjoyed your time in Ireland Connor! You certainly chose a beautiful part of the country to visit, Donegal is spectacular! Did you go anywhere else while you were here?🇮🇪

For the understanding of German Fire Departments: Cities over 100.000 residents are required to have a paid fire department. If they have one with less residents, its the cities choice. All other are volunteers. Why do the Logos in from Regensburg look similar? Cities with with paid fire departments usually alawys have vfd as well. They are the same department, run by the city and work together. Volunteers will dispatched under certain circumstances, depending on the call. The bigger the Call the more VFD will be diespatched. In my Town the VFD all have their special job. My VFD is the HAZMAT-Unit, those close to Highways have their own Rescue Vehicle, some are into long hose lines, others specalise into flood control. Some Number: My town has one paid fire station (they re building a second one) and 7 VFD Stations. Berlin: 35 Paid, 58 Volunteer Hamburg: 21 Paid, 86 Volunteers And the one in Regensburg has 1 paid Station and 11 VFD Stations (as far as i could find numbers) In total, Germany has only around 31.000 paid Firefighters and ca. 1.000.000 Volunteer Firefighters
Hi. In Norway we have full time fire fighters from populasjon from 20.000 Nothing called Volunteers. Under 20.000 there is part time fire fighters who have other Jobs. They are also paid .
German Fire Patches usually all have the same shape actually, also sharing the design with police and public EMS. Usually bearing the County or City Historical Emblem. I'm planning a visit through Colorado this year so I might be able to swing by to drop one of my department's EMS patches (district of Soest, Germany) off.
Regarding die German, the bavarian, patches: The triangled ones from Munich and Regensburg are career FDs and the red ones are volunteer departments. Throughout the state of Bavaria all patches have the same shape, but the logo in the middle is the logo of the respective departement. If a department doesn't have a logo the Bavarian white and blue will be used.
Is the light on the back of your helmet to help you see where you came from? Your vehicle is equipped very well. Did they train you on how to deploy your Fire Shelter, they can be challenging. I think you have an awesome channel already and you two make it a joy to watch. Keep up the great work.
The Johnson County patch is not from me but I am from Ohio and I am currently on vacation in Johnson County Missouri. Which is quite coincidental to me. Maybe one day I can make the journey to come out and visit you all.
They have more helmets than that. Let's see there are the structure helmets, wildland helmets, USAR helmets, swiftwater helmets, Technical rescue helmets, ballistic helmets. Not every fire department will make use of all those, but they will probably have several.
Do PIO's actually run code to calls or are the lights more for scene access and on scene warning? I guess I can see some large scale community emergencies warranting a code response.
Johnson County, Missouri is in the western part of the state near Kansas City; it's county seat is Warrensburg. I've met some of the men and women from that department and they are just awesome people.
