- Budget Turbo K Swap Civic EG Goes to the Drag Strip
By Aaron Gaghagen and Brian Gillespie
We've come a long way with Budget EG. What started as a $3,000 K24 swap has evolved into a OEM turbo K series road race car. BUT we want to know what that means in terms of performance. Typically we do a short 1/8th mile run near the shop. These runs aren't meant to show absolute speed, but to show improvement in performance. In this video we don't get a re-tune or up the boost, but we do go faster.

I love the fact that someone with so much experience made a mistake and admitted to us of the situation. I respect that kind of honesty. 🤝
Thank you. We hope to help people with what they're trying to accomplish with their projects and showing our fails is just part of that. Even if it's something half of the viewers already know, that's still a lot of people that will be better off.
Awesome been waiting to see this thing on the track. I’d bet the 1/8th mile time will drop quite a bit on prepped surface on slicks
THANK YOU! This is gunna be awesome!
That green eg in the back looks clean
Extended wheel studs!!!
Not smarting off here, but wouldn't doing it right for clearance be getting wheels with slightly different offset?
9.51 in the 1/8th is scary fast 😂 I run that in the 1/4 😂
You were dumping the clutch on the track and spinning tires and you were not doing that on the street. That’s the difference I saw. Besides missing some gears lol
Sois unos máquinas
Saludos desde spain 👍
Can i have that honda😢
Failed 😂
Congrats on spending money to go slower.
Honda accord factory studs are longer...
Fit perfectly
14.3? My b16 ran 14.4s stock in an eg
My b20v crx runs 9.5 in the 1/8 mile all day .lol and your running a 2.4 liter with a turbo. Man that's a real shitty time. You should be in the high 8s.lmfao .smfh
Damn for real? I ran a 9.3@73mph in a bone stock 2013 Si. At Irwindale
My b20v would have ran in the 8s. 😂
It's their first time at the track with this setup and engine. You're not going to immediately do low numbers without finding out what is wrong and correcting it
You guys OPEN YOUR EYES 👀 he couldn’t find 2nd or 3rd gear repeatedly. Did you even watch the video? lol
@@goforbroke2 Yep 😅👍👍
POWER TO WEIGHT. A former classmates favorite thing to say when it comes to cars getting faster
great job guys, it looks like youre at the happy limit of a stock k series trans, the 6spd do not hold hold up well to power above 350whp and no amount of driving is getting around that. 5spd is generally swapped in when its more drag focused as its stronger with less separation between the shafts under load, even then youd most likely need to do a full rebuild on it. Think of the k 5spd like a subrau 5spd in terms of strength, its a glass transmission, and the k 5spd is more of a beefed up subaru 5spd but not quite as strong as the subaru 6spd transmission. Good luck out there guys!
Hey boss, I love your videos and I have a 94 Honda civic eg coupe I was hoping you can make a list of exactly what I will need to do a K swap k24a2 motor manual please 🙏🏾
The track will humble the most experienced of builders. That looked like a lot of fun. Hopefully you can get that sorted out. Maybe a better shifter box would be in order too for crisper shifts. Car looks mean with those big tires
Check the transmission fluid before you do anything else to transmission, then the clutch & fly wheel.
Lmfao 😂😂😂 harness, helmet roll cage !!! Just for a turbocharged Kseries which is around 320whp or so yeah it's fast but so is N/a k24 with mild cam and good tune 😮 fast id think is 11sec or faster, it just comes with age Bryan, the older we get the more off our judgment gets 😅
It's a circuit car that we took drag racing. The Autopower roll bar is for body rigidity and the off chance roof ride that can happen when you're doing things besides going in a straight line.
Kind of looked like the same issue the 8th gen civic has with 2nd gear.
I am building a Coupe similar to this using the k24z engine that will be all motor at first but if that's not fast enough i plan on adding a small turbo to it at a later date. Congratulations on your build and progress so far.
I just did this exact thing. The turbo is worth it. It turns it into a completely different monster.
@@grant6985what turbo kit did you go with? Looking for a budget friendly turbo kit for a fun street car. Not looking to win any trophies, haha
The bad shifts are costing you 4 seconds plus. Also,If the budget allows, sequential is the usual route in the Civic to maximise shifts.
Our shop makes top hats for eibach and bielstein. I can tell you we make quality parts!
Is the merch site down? The link isn't working.
a 10k swap is not a budget swap! thumbs down
I have trouble understanding those 1/8 mile drag times. Those numbers should be better comparing them to some of my own.
Agreed. I ran a 9.3@73mph here in Socal with a Bone stock 2013 Si 😅
His trap speed was a lot higher.
New camera??? Looks so much better!!!
I love Hondas but I hate honda transmissions if it’s stock 300hp will destroy it lol
We haven’t had much trouble with the J manual trans at that power.
Get some slicks on that thang mane!
I seen that car in Glendale like a few weeks ago
That stock shifter box is not good.
Whatever you do , do not curse God ! There are eternal consequences . Please repent.
Get a real shift box 😂
Cool video! If it was easy everyone would be doing it ! Shake off some of the rust and you’ll get it back !
Just gonna say about the nankangs: I ran nankang ns-20’s on my daily and after 4 years they developed a bunch of small bubbles on the tread surface. I thought my wheel weights had fallen off, it felt unbalanced. If you have them, keep an eye on them if you’re going on road trips, but personally I’ve gone back to hankooks
Needs driver mod
Should grab a nice shifter kit for the eg there's several really good set ups out there these days at reasonable prices ktuned just came out with there new version I recently grabbed one myself and it's nice no complaints here million times better then the ol stock setup
Automatic
taking my crx b20v to the track tonight. hoping to beat my 14.4 pb...
Go back to the track with a slick tire and should do alot better my prediction maybe 8.8 1/8th
Love that you guys took the road race car for a trip to the strip. I do FIRMLY believe youll be in the 12s without any shift issues. Hope to catch this thing out on track one day. 🤙
That is a fast ass "K23" turbo, I need to find a k23 motor now...
My Allmotor car goes 7s in the 1/8th lol
Great video!
You may have to bleed the clutch slave cylinder. Maybe get a lsd?
What tires are on the white crv in the background?
Appreciate the videos. What fenders are those?
It’s ok brian just knock the rust off🤙🏽
Was fun hanging out with y'all!
She needs some paintless dent removal :)
Dude needs a driver mod bad... lol
I SEE THE K23 THIS TIME!
Good stuff man
Its the clutch you got to bleed it also the factory cables n gear shifter are trash jack spania racing can help you with that. And you have more load on the track also you didnt rev it as high on the street.
Unfortunately you need a dog box for the tom foolery.
Might need to bleed your clutch too.
what? a dog box for that would cost 3x the car. He can still boogie with that trans
@@sskkkkiiiiHave to love the people in these comments that come in here to brag about their 9 second drag civics to compare to a stock BUDGET k swap.
They're the new mustang owners of the racing world.
"Why don't you have an S1 built awd setup with a sequential dog box and a 90mm turbo going to individual throttle bodies with methanol?"
Straight clowns in the comment section. 🤡
