Kudos for saying "wood rot" instead of "dry rot." And I loved the "Dave's not here!" reference that only we old-timers would understand.

People need to take stairs and railings very seriously. I had a contractor out to look at my front steps bc I noticed some rot. He said they are fine until I could save up the funds, not to worry. Well, no more than a week later, I had a guest over - the stairs broke away from the porch landing and dropped from right under her. She broke both ankles and both feet, had to have surgery and was in and out of the hospital for over a year.
I don’t know construction - hence why when I noticed a slight amount of rot, I called the contractor out right away. There was a plethora of dry rot behind a couple of boards that I couldn’t see… hence why I had a licensed professional out to check it things out thoroughly. If he’d said, this isn’t safe, don’t allow anyone on them or fix them asap, I definitely would have. Last thing on earth I wanted was for a guest to be injured so badly. It’s been almost two years and it’s still so upsetting. My friend was unbelievably kind about it all, but I still feel awful.
My son and I are both fairly petite, so we went up and down them with no issue. She and her partner are a little more robust, so both of them going down at the same time, it couldn’t hold. It’s a townhome, the stairs were affixed to the neighbor’s stucco wall that was falling apart, it dumped water and composite sludge down that one side and caused it to rot on that side.
My insurance obviously skyrocketed to boot. So yeh - don’t play with landings/decks/stairs/railings!

"Robust" is a nice way of saying fat. lol I'm surprised none of the liability landed on the contractor.

If that were just some homeowners selling their house....then ok. But, a FLIP. Someone bought this intending to flip it? It begs the question: Did they do ANY work on the place? I mean ....what? They thought just a coat of paint and some new light fixtures? omG this is ridiculous! Sub'd.

This may be the worst house I’ve ever seen on RUclips. The negligence is pervasive and thorough. The homeowners just did not give a damn about their home.
They used actual duct tape on the ducts.
I think that home is beyond saving tbh. Tear it down.

    • @ShadowsandCityLights

For reals! That foundation looks beyond saving and if the foundation is gone the whole house is pretty much a demo and rebuild.

Buyer backs out and seller keeps trying to find a sucker who won't get it inspected. Or, the seller actively tries to discourage future interested buyers from getting an inspection. There is zero accountability beyond the home being harder to sell.
