Pathfinder 2e Magus in 7 Minutes or Less

- Magi always seemed pretty popular. I didn't really appreciate why until I made this video- actually they're pretty neat! The mechanics make you really look at spells a different way. You become less curious, and more engineering-minded, thinking about which of these spells can I use to attack people?
Too bad there aren't that many spells with the attack trait anymore. Many of them were "removed" in the Remaster. Technically, you can still use the old versions, but it might not feel the same. Hopefully they introduce a lot more in future books!

Magus deals so much damage, it can really turn the battle in one spellstrike. And the minigame of trying to stack bonuses on your big hit is really fun
Gunslinger level 7: when I crit, I deal 4d12+6 damage!
Magus level 7: laughs in 4d6+1d10+4+8d12 plus 4 splash and 4d4 persistent fire damage
@@sethb3090 A greatpick/arquebus/sukgung/jezail using magus is the dream.
The clear post-remaster edited in ***IGNITION*** is peak comedy.
Guilty as charged
Although this was made post-remaster, I just accidentally called it "incinerate" instead of "ignition"
@@KingOogaTonTon Its funnier this way tbh
Druid next pls?
Also this just me but with the remaster recently out any newcomers will look into the classes featured in it first before the other ones. If no Druid then witch for sure probably cover since that got a lot of updates be patron powers, hexes and familiar abilities.
Anime Protagonist..?
No way, I literally started building a Laughing Shadow magus yesterday. Earlier today I was checking if you had made a video on the magus.
The timing of this video is insanely impeccable, cheers!
Amazing! Hope it's useful!
I once tried building this class in dnd 5e and I suffered immensely... I am glad to know better now.
Just make a paladin there, same concept, except that smite asks you for usage before you smite on a missing attack. Or a non crit attack. Oh, you can also move your full distance between consecutive smite rounds, offer some support at the same time and wear the heaviest armor from the get go. I love pf2e for what it provides, but magus is simply too punishing.
@@eldritchone1775paladin isn't really the same though. It's a caster and a martial, but let's be honest, it doesn't even attempt to fill the fantasy of a spellsword
I tried making it in 5e and ended up being really really broken to the point it was not as much fun to play. (Bladesinger with really high Dex, really high Int... and somehow picked up an amulet that gave me really high Con). I was tankier than the fighter and was still a full-ass wizard
I havent played magus but I definitely do not like paladin. So I hope for my sake that youre wrong about this lol
Blade Singer Wizard is the closest you're going to get to a Magus in 5e with Hexblade Warlock as a close second.
The class feat Expanded Spellstrike lets you use spells that don't require an attack roll to your spellstrike, like Slow or Fireball. That's when the Magus gets truly awesome.
Important note that casting a conflux spell ALSO recharges spellstrike.
Yes, that's in the video 3:48
Finally found a class that makes wielding a staff cool! Guess I know who my next character is.
I was also smitten by the twisting tree study!
Twisting Tree is a perfect hybrid study for those who wish to cosplay Sun Wukong, since it literally says in the playbook that your staff adjusts its size and shape when you switch your grip on it. Or you can be a grumpy martial arts sensei that bonks people on the head with their walking stick at the slightest irritation and can humble others with their literally magical kung-fu.
Was building my first proper Magus and I made it a Sparkling Targe. Apparently you don't need a free hand to cast shield spell, so you could carry a backup shield and a Bastard Sword (1H weapon with d12 2H trait), use shield cantrip and then switch to the backup shield when the spell breaks.
If you use free archetype rules, you may take Psychic Archetype and take Tangible Dream Conscious with the Amped Shield Spell to have 3 layers of shield that last for a full minute (providing of course you're willing to spend the focus point)
Not to mention Imaginary Weapon at level 6. Oh boy that one hits like a truck doesn't it?
I made a Sparkling Targe as well, but went Wizard archetype because I'm basic.
@@conduit64 my build consists of taking a Witch archetype later on to get familiar ability "Familiar Focus" to regain focus points in combat.
Shield wizard!!
I now understand the magus class better, thank you
I g n I t i o n
Love your class overviews. Thanks very much for the video!
Magus, the only class that makes sense in a magical fantasy setting
Tele _pathic_ projectile?
Is that a new Tele _kinetic_ projectile?
The only problem with this class is that all of the hybrid studies are sick as hell
You posted this as soon as I thought hey Magus sounds cool let’s check it out. Love your vids thanks 🙏
2:21 - hi, new take?! this was mid sentence, what happened? lol
I'm excited to try Magus now that we have better Refocus rules.
the cheese god demands you make more pathfinder videos
while mgus and summoner can clearly be classified as hybrid classes I think due to impuleses being something that is entirely separe from spells and strikes kineticis has neither martial nor spellcaster qualities
also I think the biggest advantage of spellstrike is that it gives attack spell the accuracy of martial character which is outsiede few first lvs always higher tham clasters
Yeah but impulses have a lot of things in common with spells, similar limitations etc, and they all have primal trait… and are used just like martial abilities
My favorite class! Great overview!
Yes! Love these videos, need more
I wish there was an unarmed magus hybrid study that’d be baller.
Oh that would be pretty cool. Maybe in a future splat book!?
Laughing shadow appears to be the best for an unarmed build with the arcane fists feat. But that’s a sneaky build, a magical brawler would be really cool.
I am currently trying to create a magus out of a wizard. Im currently att level 2 and regretted going acient elf... Edit: help
The way you explain a class so clear, concise and entertaining that would take other ppl 15-30 minutes it's absolutely incredible.
This is so much easier to digest for my dyslexic brain. Thank you!
No dual wielding style :( Life ruined
ig laughing shadow would be the closest? you would miss out on the bonus damage but you get a VERY strong focus spell. In general though Magus is already very action strained, which is probably why there isn't one. There is a new hybrid study coming in the Tian Xia Character guide though, apparently focus on "leaping weightlessly through the air before you sword strikes home", which could maybe fit an agile dual wielder?
@@swaggyseal sadly no such luck
@@rookie2128 yeah it really is an odd choice not to have :(
magus IS very action starved but still.
i know what im playing as next campaign 😮
I love the style of those movies!
lol amogus
A youtuber that pronounces magus AND eidolon properly??
The most controversial aspect of any of my videos...I swear I googled the pronunciation first!
Oh you did get them right, that's what I'm saying, just so rare. Especially with eidolon, nobody says that right. @@KingOogaTonTon
