    For anyone who is going to disagree with the definition of tempo here, here is a follow up video of when MTG pro Zach Allen provided his definition of “effective” mana spent onto your board state and managing the effective mana to win the game.
    What is Tempo in cEDH and Commander? feat. Zach Allen

    And here’s an article from Reid Duke that essentially says the same thing:

    My favorite part of morph creatures is that you can flip them through split second. So you can even shut down a dress down or krosan grip

    • @braddorcas9363
      @braddorcas9363 5 месяцев назад +6

      Yep, they are not activated abilities. They are a special action that does not use the stack. The trigger that follows will use the stack, but the action of flipping it does not. And triggered abilities are not hampered by split second. I assume wizards did it this way so that morph wasn't just completely useless, as otherwise you'd be able to respond to a morph activation and kill it before it flips. Which would make the ability really bad.

    • @AbyssArray
      @AbyssArray 5 месяцев назад +2

      Even better when Split Second is active, they can't react to your triggered ability

    I started multiplayer commander with Kadena as I bought the precon when it got released. Had a blast playing it , the control game and the "illusionary" feeling you had when playing morphs that could be litteraly anything and I am often nostalgic of these moments. The deck had most of the morph cards you mentioned such as Kadena's silencer, Willbender, Den protecteur, Nantuko vigilante etc etc... which sounds great o_o My friends at the time told me morphs were so bad that I would never have fun playing Kadena. We played in casual pod. I stopped playing her after that and had a hard time getting the same kind of fun I had with Kadena.
    Now this video talking about that commander kinda brings me a lot of nostalgia of those times playing the precon deck :D
    Very nice video there! :) So happy Kadena made it this far in the hands of a very good player!

      Kadena is a lot of fun. I play a weird commander deck where it’s only creatures and lands. This allows me to companion Umari to get discounts on casting the morphs later if need be.

    Morph interaction is some of the most fun skill shot interaction in the game, imo. You only need get your Artisan of Kozilek yoinked by a Kheru Spellsnatcher one time, and you're gonna be playing removal first for the rest of your career LMAO

    So happy to see Kadena get some love. I play Kadena regularly (not CEDH) with the win con (that you mentioned) of drawing my entire library. But i even have the deck built for primal surge since most of my morphs act as counter spells or removal that i dont need to run instants or sorceries. Not to mention things like brinelock or craterhoof act as spicy threats to the table

    I'm going to have to look at the deck list when I can for any other morph ideas I missed. I made my own morph deck with yarus, roar of the old gods that can really pop off and draw the entire deck and have a massive board that swings for game that same turn since yarus gives haste.

    I tried a bit of kadena. Like many commanders with no intrinisic card advantage(kadena self-replaces), you still have to find the actual morph cards.
    Since your creatures are usually low quality, vraska joins up is a piece of potential technology to explore.

    • @tonysmith9905
      @tonysmith9905 5 месяцев назад +1

      Actually, it's not that bad. Usually it's 1 more mana than a spell effect that's similar at most.
      It is bad however when you have to pay the full price of morphing it down first. That's what typically makes morphs terrible to play.

    • @havardharaldsen332
      @havardharaldsen332 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@tonysmith9905 1 more mana than regular is pretty significant, no? 2, or worse 4-mana (?!) Counterspells, a 3 mana single target creature removal, and some 2-mana Disenchants? All due credit to the person who played this deck to obviously great results, but it's extremely difficult to justify for myself! What do you do if Kadena is removed? 12% of the deck is unplayable now.
