  • Big ears are the most common and most used rapid descent technique on a paraglider, because it gives you a nice descent rate but also a forward speed at the same time. So to do it, you keep you hands through the brake loops, go to the manufacturer's big ear lines, which are the outer A lines and then you pull them down, preferably one and then the other side.

I'm studying for my written exam and this video is incredibly useful to understand these techniques that I only read about so far.
    Thank you very much!

You're the man, Jocky! My new favorite you-tube instructor. One thing occurs to me, my dear friend Jeremy Conrad (has the most style of any paraglider pilot I have ever seen..) tells me that the action of putting your hands through your brake handles can have the effect of you not being able to grab your reserve handle. This fatal event happened to his friend Ziggy during S.I.V. training over water. a collapse, and spin, and hands caught in brake handles, no deployment. I like to put my hands in the handles also, until I heard about that.

      That is a good point.
And a bit of a dilemma

Why do you want to pull them one after the other and not at the same time?

hi, you can pull normal big ears at the same time. But if you pull Big big ears, an extra line each side, then it's better to do one then the other as it can do a full frontal collapse.

It's best not to as it makes you more roll unstable, so you would be more effected by turbulence than if you had all the wingspan and used brakes to control stability.
