Oof, Matt was doing my head in! Being 15 min away from your parents is no great crisis, he just needed to grow up and accept that his wife and child should be a higher priority than the question of 5 miles. Glad he came around!
I can't believe the couple returning from Australia wants the same type of house in the UK. Yes, I'm in Australia and even I know that it isn't usually possible.
Oh absolutely! If one 'wins' 'agsinst' one's spouse, it's a lose for yhe life of the couple, so ultimately a lose for even the winning person...! Whst wise words from Phil. G Ire
Matt may have come around, and at the same time I wonder if they're still married. Thank you for another fun episode. Your dedication to our viewing pleasure is greatly appreciated.
I know what you mean, I wonder that about ALOT of the people on this show. My parents were perfect (hear me out) Mum liked a house and Dad bought it...they were married for 59yrs. Dad told me that he could never see the vision, but if Mum was happy he would be happy...a wise man :D
Wow, on the one hand it's sad when something ends, but on the other hand perhaps now she'll find someone more her speed and less of a mama's boy, lol. Thanks for the update. @@neojng
I agree. I always wonder where couples who don't find a house on the show, specifically those that pull out of deals, end up. Do they find better homes in the locations they want? Do they end up in nice homes but in different areas than they looked on the show? There's so many possibilities, but usually (not including 2008-2010) the housing market only goes up, up, up. During several episodes they talk about couples being able to afford less house than when they started because they have been looking for so long and prices kept going up. With this couple in particular, I just feel like they just had to have all their renos done immediately and couldn't afford to. As you said, the house was perfectly located and definitely livable. You can't do some work now, some work 2 years from now, some work 5 years from now, etc.? It's so silly.
I think I might have suggested to Matt that they could live in the first house they bought, where Jody wanted to be, until they’d saved enough more to sell and move to Poole. Admittedly, that might take several years, during which time he’d grow to love where they were!
Me too! To assuage my addiction I've been rewatching so many, 'cause even second time round they're great, but I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this today. Yippee 😀
Lovely episode and so warming to see you present and hunt for what the couples may not even know they want yet. Id choose Phil and Kirstie anyday to help me find my ❤home. Thanks guys 🎉
I went on an English language course to Bournemouth, and that bus stop in the town centre hasn't changed since then. I'll take my kids there to visit, using the National Express
I wouldn’t be the least surprised if they are separated by now! He’s a piece of work and should move in with his mum and dad and set her free to find someone who appreciates her!
5:23 Coogee beach in Sydney-Australia...is where I grew up in part, and is my most Favorite place in the Whole World! Sadly the house we lived in is now in 2023 worth 4 million dollars, and to rent it for 6 months (owners are going overseas) they are asking $2,100 PER WEEK!...Looks like I will never make it back. :(
Yes, it's tough not to be able to move back to our home places because of property price inflation. I had the same issue in Dublin. Had to move to a nearby area and a house was out of the question. An apartment was the only option. I fear for the next generation. Hope you're happy where you eventually landed! 👊🙏
I liked EVERY house these two couples viewed, especially the large corner property that was swimming in surrounding LAND and even Matt's tiny one in Bournemouth which had room for future development.
as a visitor to the area we found it to be a lovely area. lv from OZ we enjoy your program. PS I am half English so I really enjoy your program. thank you.
I love "Our Lady Of The Sledgehammer". I love the houses shown to the Australian couple. Personally, looking at an old house that has been made open plan, I think about where walls need to be reinstated. Open plan drives my nuts. I hate it.
We had a sink in our Master bedroom. I turned the area into a make up station. It got me out of the bathroom so others could use it and I could take my time in a comfortable spot that was fit for purpose. I love the sink thing !
@@CaponeCabin. Yes, safety (electricity + water = electrocution). It's for the same reason that light switches are either outside the bathroom or one pulls a string just inside the room to turn on the light.
This is better than q previous Rosie where they were looking for houses in Aberdeen. In that one, the husband was determined to have a rural house while he went off to work all day and left his wife stranded at home with 3 kids . She wanted a house closer to the village and set on the village green. Lots of people around and kids to play with. The husband got his way like a spoiled child
Great Britain is an Island. Limited space. Australia is huge therefore the houses are going to be bigger. Also due to the climate differences between the 2 countries nobody can expect an Australian style house in England. Get real people!
@@MeadowDay It's so bizarre the problems/excuses you hear coming out of peoples' mouths. 🤣 Oh no! I get to have an entire elevation of my house that I don't have to share with anyone else. Weirdos.
Lack of privacy, more chance of theft, vandalism. Also more road noise and sidewalks to maintain, shovel snow, etc. I think you should be objective. More light and air, yes, but most of your yard is public, versus private backyard.
Having just started this show, Matt is too immature. He obviously has not learned the one true rule of being married. Happy wife, happy life. It's that simple. He can't get too far away from mum? Poor baby..... when I was 22 I got 5000 miles away from my family and lived in the U.K. for 27 months. Then 1200 miles in the other direction, past my family home for 3 years then 1 year in another country and 6 months in still yet a different country and I haven't stopped traveling yet. When family wants to see me I fly them to where I am living. I am not well to do but I am able to travel and am thinking about returning to the U.K. again and living in Edinburgh for a while. Love this show. Oh by the I am an American.
They must know they cannot recreate a sprawling Aussie home in the UK. It's silliness. Poole husband needs to cut the apron strings and commit to reason and his own little family.
I think it was more of a snobbish attitude of people living in a posh area looking down their nose at other places. Once he saw how much nicer it was than he thought, it made sense.
I'm very confused by Kirstie's statement that that new mom should be in a house 5 minutes from the beach rather than 5 minutes from shops. Usually, she would say that the shops are more practical
I can't believe nobody asks if the garden is South-facing, it can affect your wellbeing so much and you can change most things inside a house, but you can't change its aspect.
There have been a number of house hunters who wanted south facing gardens but the thing is it has to be very important to you because in order to get a south facing garden that means compromising on other things. You can’t have every single thing in your wish list!
I agree. I warned both of my brothers and their wives to be sure to get a south/southwest facing rear garden. I have done this on three property moves. Do you think they listened? Not at all. Regretting it now but won't admit it of course!!!
I’m over 7,000 km from my family. Raised my son that far away…😢 15 min away would have been heaven. My family all grew up around each other. That’s what makes sense to me. I will go to my grave with regret.
Matt an emotionally selfish 'toddler' not honouring his wife who just gave birth to his child, grow up... really awful to watch a man child narcissist.
Why does Mat need to be near his Mummy?!! What a jerk. He should grow up and stop being so selfish. Mummy's boy and by the sounds of it has always got his own way. His wife will be in the house all day and if his parents are anything like him then she probably wants nothing to do with her in-laws either. I'd be surprised if they are still together. Hope she gets a real man next time.
He needs more than a kick up the ass 😮. He really is a mammys boy. Not thinking of his wife at all. That house is two small and to much work especially when shes the one that will be living in the middle of renovations with a baby.

"Wet wipe" comes to mind.
I always do what my wife wants. Her happiness is my main focus. Everything else is secondary. Happy wife happy life.
I can't believe the couple returning from Australia wants the same type of house in the UK. Yes, I'm in Australia and even I know that it isn't usually possible.
I couldn't see it either. There is a lightness about beach homes in places like Coogee.
Why not stay in Australia ?
I can’t believe anyone would have left Australia to return to live in the UK. Just saying !
Absolutely love the vibe with Kirsty and Phil. It makes viewing so enjoyable. ❤❤
Phil to Mat, "You don't win against your wife." Good! Mat appeared in need of adult advice.

Oh mummy! What kind of hold does she have on sonny?

I was really giving the fish eye at the guy who thought living 15 minutes away from his family was too far. Glad he came around.
Without fail, it amazes me that people set their minds on properties they simply can't afford.
Crazy
I don't understand the allure of a beach where the water's cold.

Yes, I wondered about that too. Maybe no community or beach access in the middle? Seemed like a happy compromise.
I don't think they wanted to live in a complete shithole, a busy shit hole as well
Open plan living in the UK just seems unwise imo, it's very difficult to heat
Why are there sinks in the bedrooms??
A British custom!
Leftovers from when large family only had one bathroom. You could wash, brush teeth, hair grooming, etc. in the bedroom.
Actually most homes of a certain age all over Europe do have them. It's very handy.

I don’t think that marriage will last
Everything Aussie isn't always great or bonza or ripper. In fact, if you live in Perth, it's pretty awful.
Imagine being such a mummy's boy you can't even move to the next town. Deeply irritating.
Matt is a mommy's boy!!
I find Matt’s face to be really irritating.
He has a very punchable face. It goes with his annoying personality.
I can't imagine finding a large, open plan home by the beach for $400.00?
Why do the Brits turn so much of their small front and back "gardens" into hardtop areas? Bad for the environment. It doesn't have to be grass.
Mainly because the UK is a very wet country, and its very easy to track mud into the house, due to the ground being wet.
If he doesn’t give in I see a divorce in his future….you couldn’t blame her. She needs to become Mom and tell him to put up or lose.
Learning UK English: Far up the bobbie = light the grill.
More like Australian. "Fire up the barbie."
I'm surprised Matt found his way to become a father. Big girl's blouse. Man up!
Let’s face he then made the man out to be the bad guy because he wanted to be near family. I had the opposite case. It’s hurts tremendously.
Kirsty and Phil flirting is unsettling
