- This time on American Viscountess I visit Deans Court - a tranquil country house in the centre of the Dorset market town of Wimborne.Once a medieval monastery, the building we see today was transformed in the Georgian period. The Hanham family have lived here for 500 years since the time of the Tudor Kings and Queens. William and Ali Hanham give me a tour of the beautiful interiors and tell of the extraordinary and sometimes heartbreaking history of previous generations. deanscourt.org

Thanks, for sharing these wonderful videos! I've always been mesmerized by learning about all the homes, the history of the families, who at present and past have owned these historical masterpieces. Keep up the great work and Merry Christmas to both you and your family! :)
love the series
Done. I love these videos. On Dad's side, I am mainly English and Scottish, so I enjoy learning the history of the UK. My ancestors were probably the peasant class. I was a history major in college, and have always loved history, so I learn a lot from watching the videos.
There is so much in a 1,300 year old history. I think you made a great point that these homes are not museums. They are still lived in and still preserving the legacy of who lived there before them.
Heather, did you missed the part where the legacy oppressed and enslaved poor Irish women and Mexicans?
I AM SO HAPPY I CAME ACROSS THIS SERIES, AND IT WAS COOMPLETELY BY CHANCE, I LOVE OLD HOUSES AND ESTATES BUT WAS UNDR THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY ALL BELONGED TO THE NATIONAL TRUST AND ALTHOUGH BEAUTIFUL AND INTRESTING TO LOOK AT COLD AND IMPERSONAL,
I love the attitude that you don't"own" the houses, but are duty bound to preserve the place for the next generation. So refreshing in a "throw away" world
Deans Court is such a beauty. What strikes me about the owners (protectors & preservers) of these hugely important historic houses, is the tangible living passion which drives them on.
As an American obsessed with all things British, this series is so much fun! I feel like she asks questions and points out what so many of us Americans would ask.
Canadian as well
Agreed! I love all things British as well....kinda wishing she'd have picked up a bit of an accent after all these years!
Winter, Why don't you move to the UK and enjoy your obsession full front?
@@manymany5076 because I am a loud Texan. I would never fit in. But I can appreciate it from afar.
@@WinterConstant Loud Texans don't fit in anywhere. Is it true that Loud Texan really means Mexican? Are you Mexican?
That place is beautiful!! I so admire how the British preserve their history in these beautiful castles and manors ect..
Thank you, Dean's Court for bringing us into your home and sharing your family, country history.
Fascinating. Leaves me wanting more! Thank you so much for these wonderful productions.
Our pleasure!
I agree with you completely.
Watching these and the Mapperton videos have become one of my wife and myself guilty pleasures.
We love to have a good glass of wine and watch both.
They have first class production value and I love the history.

The Tradition Lives on ! Bravo !
WORTH WATCHING. Sometime ago, when I scrolled my telephone back in a double take at her grinning picture with a lopsided tiara on her head (from moving it toward the speaker, I found) she had me. Open, warm, inviting and authentic, her Viscount made the best decision in his life choosing her.
Incredible and heart wrenching story. I loved the mourning room. How stunning. Thank you!
The size of this house was illustrated by how small you looked when you walked up to the large entrance doors. What an amazing and beautiful home!
She is of the aristocracy, but she is still so refreshingly American. I love it. A woman who knows the seriousness of her position, but has not lost her essential self. I’m sure her husband must adore that. After all, if he wanted the “proper” English rose, he would not have married her, but he did marry someone that suits him. I love it!! I only wish Meghan had been allowed to be herself.
She wasn’t interested in our history! She’s been nothing but trouble ! She’s a bully! Glad she’s gone! Shame nutmeg didn’t ask for help from this lady!
Meghan made little to no effort. She is demonstrative of the worst "entitled" of my country.
Lmao the royal family isn't exactly known for being nice and inviting of strangers. Meghan did well moving away. At least now she has a chance to be happy.
@@Qrtuop They welcomed her so did we! She’s being investigated for bullying! Educate yourself! She’s a narcissistic woman!
Meghan has been her narcissist self all along, please don’t taint Julie with the likes of Harry’s wife. Both traitors to HMTQ but unforgivable from Harry. Even though Canadian and stuck listening to their “private” lives endlessly and in such a positive way by our media, neither should be accepted back in the UK in any working capacity, ever!! They can’t be trusted.
Love your RUclips channel and everything you provide for our pleasure, entertainment and historical references for those of us having a thirst for knowledge ♥️🇨🇦
Absolutely fascinating.
I truly enjoy learning about this type of history.
This was wonderful.
Many thanks!
One never knows what life will present. A world where history, charm and tradition inter-weave. This is certainly a life mission for the Viscountess.
Thank you William for sharing the history of your family and opening your home to us. Love from Vermomt
This is just breath taking to see and try and take in the 1300 years of British/English history! It is also lovely to see it being exquisitely maintained! what a huge responsibility! I cannot wait to see the next instalment!
What a beautiful home and the family is so agreeable and lovely!
It has been such a joy to see Julie growing into her role, a true lady!
More like this please , absolutely fascinating Julie . 🇨🇦🦋
💋Absolutely wonderful episode Julie! I love every video on both channels. This was so interesting and I am looking forward to future episodes. Blessings to you and your family this Holiday season. ~Love&Light♥️Carli
I love the little dog that wanders in to the room and goes to sleep in front of the fire.
Love your shows they are so fun and educational all at the same time!
I’m so glad you’re filming these again! I get so much enjoyment from seeing these beautiful homes and learning about their history. And to hear the families sharing their stories and seeing what they’re doing to preserve their homes. You are the perfect person to take us on these tours. Thank you so much! 🌸🌸

This is my favorite so far of the series because you go into one of these majestic homes. You really help us to feel the stories inside the walls. I'd love more home interiors in future episodes. Great job, everyone. These videos are so well produced!

Your humility and willingness to share your heart make you true royalty
What an extraordinary home and equally extraordinary historic family. It's a real joy to see the series reborn. The struggle to get to this point after the original series was canceled has paid off. You can see Julie is extremely pleased and grateful to be doing what she loves again. Well done Julie. This woman never gives in. If I had just half of the energy she has.....haha
I cringe when old and or historic documents are touched without gloves on. Natural oil, lotions, and other debris on our hands damage documents over time. That said the documents here could have been recreations of the original.
Cheers.
The family stories are absolutely captivating! This house is amazing!!
So interesting. So glad the family is able to keep the living history going so it is not just a museum stuck in time. More of these please! Love it!
And that is why Americans so love British history and all the estates and houses. The length of years they have been on the planet. Intriguing, interesting and admirable. All the long threads of different people incorporating that history! Gotta love it. I love the Bible scripture that reminds me of this..."1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses..." Hebrews 12:1

What a beautiful home and fascinating story. 😀
Glad you enjoyed it
What a stunning home. Beautiful
Julie, you're funny and a lot of fun. I like the way you present everything with passion and awe.
Beautiful and calming home. What an amazing back story!
So fascinating to watch this since I'm related to the Hanhams via Elizabeth Hanham. Her father, Sir John Hanham was my 9th great grandfather. I only found all this out recently when I was tracing my family tree on Ancestry, great fun and very interesting!
Would you know why it's called Dean's court then? Did it belong to the Dean(e) family?
@@TiredMomma no, it's something to do with the location of it I believe.
You’re a gem. I love your enthusiasm. Your episodes are fantastic- such high quality. Keep it up and thank you!

Such a treat! I love seeing these wonderful homes inside and out and learning about their histories! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I saved the Deans Court video to watch together. What a beautiful estate! Thank you Julie for this wonderful video!! Love from Vermont
I adore your channel! I miss Ladies of London but your content here is enjoyable in such a unique way. Thank you.
Thank you so much!
Now I’m wondering about the destruction of the monastery and what became of those inhabitants. To me that was a sad part of Tudor history. No doubt there were some that had a bad reputation but others provided services to the poor and needy.
So beautiful and inviting! OMG...I love love it😍😍
Very interesting and fascinating house and history.
Glad you enjoyed it
He explains everything so well 🕊🤍🕊. 💕
Love it! Thank you for sharing! Interesting while watching received a call from my SIL who's father is a Hanham stating they couldn't visit for Thanksgiving because he is in his last days.. ironic.
I feel so guilty being obsessed with your clothing! Such lovely outfits and of course the homes are such a stunning piece of history.
Love watching you,so informative
This was so interesting, thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Truly interesting. You are a natural story teller.
I remember going to the house in the 70's and having to walk around the holes in the kitchen floor. I was asked to help sell produce from the garden. Must have been a garden open day.
I would so love to visit some of these historic houses whenever I return to England ❤🥰
Louise from Michigan. I love love your channel. You are she much fun to watch.
Oh thank you!
Fascinating! Thanks for sharing.
Hi there from Ontario Canada!! Love your channel and all your content!! Best wishes💝
Thank you for this fascinating glimpse into history. You'll have to make an episode about the ghosts, because there is no way this house isn't haunted!
I love all your videos! It is like watching documentaries of the real Downtown Abbey and Bridgerton ….and how are they now….
Thoroughly enjoyed the video! At the beginning when you were driving, it reminded me of something I've always been curious about. I imagine the traffic laws are very similar to the ones here in the U.S., but was it tempting, early on, to feel as though you were on the "wrong" side of the road and attempt to correct? I think I would be second guessing myself quite a bit until I got used to it, left vs. right hand turns particularly.
this is so fascinating...and i really appreciate your enthusiasm...
Glad you enjoyed it!
That story was heart wrenching, for all involved. But that poor boy was a victim from the beginning and the sleep deprivation alone would've been enough to drive him mad. Beautiful home though, and incredibly fascinating history
Love your videos. Thank you for sharing
I am from a small town outside Chicago as well. I watched you on Ladies of London. So glad I found you again. Subscribed, I
LOVE history
Thanks for subbing!
That family room is so interesting. Mapperton has the kitchen where the family hangs out, but here there is a range and kitchen table, and then soft sofas, and a big antique mirror. I'm wondering if the kitchen became the family room because the rest of the house is so cold.
I’m watching you on my TV I couldn’t wait for you to come back I’ll be looking forward to every single episode

So your new intro with car and intro clips-well done. The color of the car is quite nice. Also, props used in each intro clip-quite nice. And deciding to focus on females-you've got something there-very appealing to your audience.
Yes, it's very clever. I think this channel is going to grow a lot.
