Yeah, they taught her how a Queen acts... like a bitch to her inferiors. I don't mean this to slag on Maddie. I really think she was fairly nice prior to her abduction, or at least nicer (or Gal would have commented). I think, for her, tilting sharply bitch-ward is just what the nobs *do*.
I think that's the point of this song. It was a reflection of all the times she fought her way to the top just so could be accepted by those queens, but now that she realizes they are just evil bitches, what was the point of her fight? All those people she hurt and things she had done and for what? To still be mocked by the people she thought would praise her.
There's a subtle, yet delightfully positive turn the final lines take after Gareth gives her the ear(ring)s and she kisses him. "What is this feeling?" goes from questioning a bad feeling to questioning a good feeling.
I remember during the first season I though " yep Richard is a dick, will never like Richard" Now I love him and think he's a precious baby. Then I moved on to hating Madalena thinking " No, she's irredeemable, I'll never like her, she really sucks" Now I just want her and Gareth to develop feelings for one another and have a happy ending. Why does this show do this to me!
You know, that thing with the earrings, I was actually touched and kinda disturbed the first time. That was actually very sweet, in a disturbed kind of way
It also makes the gift even better to Madelena (with her evil-leaning mentality). She has their prized possessions, the symbol that to her embodied to her how glam those queens were, and she also has a token reminder that they got severely painful punishment for "roasting" her, plus they're now disfigured and likely to never live it down.
This show is so delightfully creative and weird with its catchy tunes, and enticing energy, that I never want an episode to end. I often would get stuck between Downton Abbey and Galavant because they were broadcast at the same time on Sunday evenings. Now that Downton Abbey is ending, bring on Galavant!!!
I wish them all well, some of them have gotten other work, but the Prince, and Galavant I have not seen working anywhere else. I at least have bought the two seasons on dvd. Curiously, the maid from the show was also the kitchen maid on the 'Abbey'.

I LOVE the change in tone at 2:26. I LOVE musicals that have a song begin with one meaning than take a 180 into s different theme. This was well done. This Show was Amazing and under appreciated. I really with Season 3 wasn't cancelled and am Glad they had a basic FU to the Network.
All characters have a backstory and we finally got to see her backstory and what made her power hungry and cruel and it's heartbreaking and beautiful she admitted that she hide her feelings till she stopped having them so she could gain power and respect but it's never enough
To all of the people out there saying "this is one of the few serious songs in this entire show," a serious song does NOT contain the lyric: "could I be feeling somehow?" Also, I do love how in any other shows, a man giving his girlfriend decapitated ears as a gift would be a creepy villainous reveal, but in this one it's a touching heartfelt moment. I honestly think Gareth and Madalena's relationship is one of the best love stories ever written, and I'm saying that with complete and total seriousness.

So Madalena's reaction might be an exageration but it's supposed to be some kind of fairy tale, so it's normal if she's a little archetypal.
Remember the whole "as much as someone like me can love anyone" bit? Madalena has, up to this point, exhibited traits of a complete sociopath. To legitimately have a connection with someone must be TERRIFYING for her.

Season 1 didn't get high viewership but ABC still gave it a second season to wrap up the plot and conclude the tale in a happy way. It's one of the ONLY times I've seen a network be nice to a show like that. I think it helps that Disney owes Alan Menken so much for his work on soundtracks that they wanted to allow his passion project to be shown to the world.
Coral Roper she's actually a classic case of histrionic personality disorder, dramatic, craves attention, relationships are mainly sexual or serve a purpose somehow, frustrated when things don't go her way, and willing to eliminate obstacles with any means necessary.
