Beautiful and thoughtful tribute to your best friend, Gus. I had to put my black lab down 14 months ago. I scattered his ashes over the water we frequented together. There was hardly any consoling me during a long period of grief. But I am healing and we are getting a new pup in 2 months....a yellow lab. I'm sure we will enjoy many hunts together. You're a blessed man

My first dog was a Golden Retriever, I did not hunt and my brother in law learned that I had a Golden, so he told me to bring her Thanksgiving on their Sugar Beet Farm, that he wanted to see if she would hunt. I just thought we would go out in the field and watch her, but he had me take a gun, she got birdy and flushed a rooster, I shot it and we both were hooked. Since then I have had another Golden, that pointed and that got me into Setters and I had one Llewelin that was gun shy and a Gordon. I still took the Llewelin and trained the Gordon with her, show she had plenty of bird contacts in the off season, but she would balk if I had a gun, without the gun, she had a blast and that was good enough for me. They are all gone now and I have not been healthy enough to hunt, but I love videos like this, that bring back great memories of years past and the wonderful dogs I had and played the game with.

Wow- I just got back from the vets today where I had my lab of 16 years , named Hank , put to sleep. This is the first video I pulled up, can't believe it. I hunted over Hank for years, pheasants, ducks and huns. Yeah I cried, but this video made it easier. Thanks for posting.

Then I get to the last 10 minutes and I’m bawling in a tent that is set up in the middle of my garage (I told my daughter we’d camp tonight and couldn’t bailout because of a few storms) and thinking about my 11 year old Labrador and my two daughters. Just a great video all around. Thanks.

I got a new chessie pup in march, he keeps me busy. I hope he hunts as well as my last dogs.

My 1.5 year old lab has some good training for duck and dove. But I haven't upland hunted him yet. I guess I need to hit a game farm to get him get used to the smell. thanks for the tip. I gotta say I really enjoyed this episode, and yep...i teared up towards the end. I miss all my ole Four legged friends and hunting companions. God Bless. Dog ownership is a tough road. Gotta enjoy the times while they are here. They dont get to enjoy it very long. I can only hope that I can enjoy my young lab for the next 12 -14 years or so.

Just a fantastic production and superb storyboard - hunting roosters / labs past and present / "daughter critics" who are willing to come share the experience with "dear old" Dad!
As a father of a daughter, a passionate pheasant hunter and one who for years has hunted upland with a Lab, this video hit it out of the park for me! Keep up the great work!!

first time i upland hunted with my dog was 4 years ago, wild hunt, never been upland hunting. he was 2 and pretty solid on ducks and geese. pheasants are rarer here (central Saskatchewan, lots in the south though) i was able to get a couple wings the week before from a fellow who'd been down south. strapped the wings to a doken pheasant and he got used to the smell. buddy also had a dog that'd never hunted pheasants, it was just the two of us and our two rookie dogs. we walked forever on a day that started out at -25 and ended just above freezing. we limited out on absolutely gorgeous roosters. i got pretty emotional after the 6th rooster was in hand. this video and channel is so awesome in that it makes that connection between pet, hunter, and bird. i love it.

There is always that 1 dog .. mine was a GSP named Tye. The stories I could tell.. I'm on my 4th pointer and all my wife can say is we won't find another Tye. Sept we got slapped by covid my Daughter in law who is a RN kept yelling at me to get up and move so the wife and kids and I started walkin and jump shooting ducks on the river. My current French Brittany don't care to water retrieve. Couple days jump shooting my wife started asking questions. About question number 5 I looked her in the eye and asked her where she was going with all these questions 🙄. Yep you guessed it she wants a chocolate or Black Lab. It wasn't WE need a Lab. It was I want a lab. 33 yrs married and it's the first time she had ever wanted a hunting dog. So like your Gus and like my Tye my wife will have HER first bird dog shortly.

Yes, this is a repeat of an episode that originally aired in 2017. Unfortunately, we unknowingly lost media after the season closed last year and cost us an episode. We thought this episode was a fitting one to fill it in hopes of inspiring others. Thanks for your patience with us.
