    Dogs are the main reason I got into upland hunting. Young dogs are certainly a treat to watch. Nice work!

    Nice one guys. I remember when my dog retrieved her first woodpigeon, the elation I felt....it was brilliant.

      Much appreciated! Totally agree about that feeling of elation, watching him flush and retrieve those pheasants was one of the highlights of the season for me!

    Another good one with Leroy showing all that talent he was born with on his very first upland hunt.
    Liked how Leroy finished the hunt,not down by the truck with you,but there in the action retrieving down phez!

    I don’t know where you had your camera placed but I felt like I was actually there. Great camera work and editing! I dove hunt in south Texas (Rio Grande Valley) but I have always wanted to pheasant hunt. Looks like fun.

      Thanks brother! I was using GoPro on a head strap so it’s a first person view. Hope you can get out to pheasant hunt at some point soon!

    Its kinda crazy how the first hunt the dog wont know who shot or where the bird dropped but once they figure out what the game is its like they are magicians.

    Impressive how you find awesome hunting land in states you don’t live in . Nice video, i enjoyed the upland hunt just as much as I enjoy your waterfowl hunts .

    nice job leroy on finding all those roosters good luck for duck and goose hunting this year hope leroy can get them out of the water or on land you can take him on the early teal and goose hunting in september 1rst

    Haha. Same thing happened to us last year in ND. Second day in, 8” of snow. We did the same thing after two days of scouting and nothing. We were up there late October

      @@HokeOutdoors we didn’t come prepared for upland at all. We tried one day on some public land. Found a few birds. My dog was pretty cut up by the reeds. Need to get her a vest and come prepared next time. Great video.

    I’m going to be getting into upland hunting/bird and planning on buying a dog to train as well either a lab or a shorthair pointer can’t decide though

    Are you using the apex s3 steel? and how much to get a duck dog trained.

      No I was shooting #5 lead on this hunt! Good dog trainers typically run around 1K per month

    Your state allows upland hunting without orange?

      It's optional in both North and South dakota

    Out of curiosity, when you guys say partridge, are you talking about ruffed grouse or actual partridge? I'm from Maine, and we have always called grouse partridge for some reason. I always thought that was just a Maine thing.

      There are some ruffed grouse in ND but I was talking about Hungarian partridge!

    not the best idea to hunt an inexperienced dog in standing corn, but its your dog

      I'm interested to know why not?? I didn't think he'd help much with flushing in that corn but figured we'd need him to run down any cripples

      Because it is such a breeding ground for bad habits, like ignoring YOU, because he can ckearly see pheasants running down the rows ,why subject them to overstimulation which causes unwanted behaviors? That you will have to try and get rid of later, running way ahead ,flushing birds out of range etc.....
      I dont let my dogs go in standing corn period

      I did a lot of training myself with Leroy. I mainly sent him to the trainer for force fetch because I wasn't comfortable doing it myself. I'm very glad I did, they completed that along with a lot of blind work way quicker than I could've
