There's been some pretty astounding horror movies since then, no doubt. Hereditary however... thats a movie with no age limit, you must decide for your self to watch it. truly horrifying.
@@ragnarsama6882 Midsommar is a great movie because of all of the layers to it. There's so much to dissect. It could be the topic in a college film course.
It doesn't feel like The Others came out TWENTY YEARS AGO. If someone had asked me between The Others and The Ring which came out first, I would've sworn it was The Ring.
That’s because the Ring was freaking huge when it came out. Overshadowed other things at the time. But the Others was my first horror film at 10 yrs old. It’ll always be special to me
Midsommar is a Psychological horror film , I mean it's a Ari Aster film the same guy who made Hereditary hahaha he's a big fan of eerie and disturbing vibes 😅
Pretty good list. I agreed with about 85% of your choices. I think Midsommar is definitely better than the Us. it's odd that you mentioned rewatchability as I think that's one of Midsommar's strengths. My biggest disagreement is picking The Strangers over Let The Right One In. I really enjoyed The Strangers and aspects of that movie are VERY well done but I put Let The Right One In in the top 5 horror movies of the decade. It is good on so many levels.
My biggest complaint/disagreement: 2015: The VVitch... I honestly LOVE The VVitch, it's an absolutely FANTASTIC Horror film BUT... My bias for a particular movie trumps ALL other films!! Best 2015 Horror = BONE TOMAHAWK!!! Idk if I REALLY consider it a Horror film but it is still scary AF!! Everyone should watch and Bone Tomahawk

@@joeertman The literal definition of horror: an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust It's a feeling of being shook whether from fear, shock, or disgust. So, ya, it by definition doesn't make sense for that movie to fit into the horror category. It isn't scary, shocking, etc if you're just laughing your ass off and are unable to take it seriously. My original statement has not changed, there should be a separate category for horror/comedy.
That’s where my dad had to turn it off. He was like, this film looks amazing, but it’s too dark for me. Yeah, Toni Collette was insane in this movie. That image of her banging her head against the ceiling is burned into my mind. That wailing sound was incredibly authentic too. I’ve heard that in real life. That’s what crushing grief and hopelessness sounds like. She’s an incredible actress.
It's so criminal that she was denied an oscar and just shows how screwed up and obviously not realistic of real excellence in acting by the academy and all those millionaire elite douchebags to totally ignore her gut wrenching performance and can't even nominate her however they can put up get out for a fricken best pic nomination. What a joke? Seriously they only did that cause you know with all the pressure from the black community they had to put a black film in somewhere, and don't even get me started on the fact they gave Anthony Hopkins a nom and the actual award for Silence of the Lambs for literally only like 10 min of screen time. His portrayal was creepy but seriously shows how screwed up those ppl are if they can totally ignore Toni Collette's mind bending performance, but reward the other two films that come to my mind. This is just my opinion so plz don't lash back at me about the black comment. It has nothing to do with race I assure you, and only a comment responding to the actual statements made by the academy on not including mainly black casted films. They were pressured to include them no matter the cost of ignoring other great films that had no black cast. That's why they even changed the entire format at last oscars to utter stupidity and disrespect of film industry.
I think Hereditary was the greatest horror film of the last decade. I thought Sinister was the scariest though. Also a big shout out to 2018's Suspiria, just about on par with the original.
@@neildmello6636 its sad and has little jokes its saturated and gloomy and you might wanna watch something upbeat or happy its an amazing horror movie and i'd definetly reccomend you to watch alone
I don’t think I had seen a horror movie that left such an impact on me. The first time I saw the exorcist is comparable, but I think this one hit harder. It was incredibly well done. It’s weird, some people think it’s terrifying, others think it’s stupid. People are split right down the middle. I wonder what that’s about?
I will easily put "MIDSOMMAR" over "US" in 2019 . I watched both movies and Midsommar gave me that Eerie and disturbing vibes no Jumpscare, No comic relief it's just a pure Psychological horror film, not to mention a Horror film that took place in a Bright and Sunny weather perfect example of "Daylight Horror" film ☀️
I just don't get the praise that's heaped on "Us". I found it boring, stupid in places and the 'dad' was just plain annoying. Midsommar on the other hand is incredible.
Us was absolutely garbage though wtf? The voices were stupid and not scary, the twist was obvious and Peeles “social commentary” is cliche and on the nose
I loved the first 3 qts of Ritual but feel it dropped off in the last act. I think it may have been better if you never found out about who put the symbols in the trees and were left wondering if it was all in their heads.
The Host was such a good movie. Im not korean but I watched it when i was little, it truly scared me and i was also amazed by all the actors especially the daughter of the main charater. Now i grow up and i watched the clip of The Host in this video, and it suddenly striked me, made me want to cry. It was just such a good movie, not only a good horror movie. Please try it.
My favorite horror movies of all time: 1. Sean of the Dead 2. It Follows 3. Hereditary 4. Let the Right One In 5. Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil. Not saying any of these are better than the other, or any other film, each of these films just have a special place in my heart 🥰
I totally agree with "Get Out" as the best horror flick in 2017 and "Hereditary" in 2018 but I find "Midsommar" the best one of 2019. "Us" is really good until the unrealistic explanation at the end. Also I find that "Midsommar" gets better with multiple viewing because there are so many hidden hints and there is so much foreshadowing. "Us" is entertaining but "Midsommar" is deeply unsettling in a good way. Haven't been so disturbed after watching a movie in a long time. The leading ladies in both films are top notch! I really hope the both directors will continue in the horror genre.
Final Destination for 2000, Session 9 & Dagon for 2001 (The Others is awesome though), Dog Soldiers & Cabin Fever for 2002, Wrong Turn & Final Destination 2 & The Texas Chainsaw Massacre & High Tension for 2003, Calvaire & Creep & Dawn of the Dead for 2004, The Descent was the best indeed in 2005, Cold Prey & The Hills Have Eyes & Silent Hill & Wilderness for 2006, 30 Days of Night & Borderland & Inside for 2007 but REC is brilliant too, The Ruins & Martyrs & Splinter & Train for 2008, The Collector & Infestation & The Loved Ones & Pandorum & Triangle & Burning Bright for 2009.
Great list. Favorite year? 2016 (US release year): 1. The Witch (limited 2015, wide 2016) 2. Raw 3.The Neon Demon 4. The Invitation 5. 10 Cloverfield Lane 6. Don’t Breathe 7.The Green Room 8. Terrifier 9. Cure for Wellness 10. Train to Busan, AND..... 11. Autopsy of Jane Doe

Shawn of the Dead is a good movie, but you're talking about horror movies and Shawn of the Dead is a comedy for fuck sake. The Grudge is easily the best horror movie of 2004.
Yeah this list is stupid. Also they consider The Host which is a clear monster flick movie as a horror movie? So with that logic Sharknado is also a horror movie.
"Let the Right One In" was my favourite film of the entire time period, which you covered. Very unusual, with children, as the main stars in the Swedish winter.
@The Nuka Cola Man yes I listen what he said already but may be that movie is mostly funny unlike horror movies and can't compare with the other zombie movies that released in the same year as i remember like zack Snyder "dawn of the dead" or other horror non zombie movies like the grudge or creep at the same year and that is my point.
@@justanotherpointlessyoutub1887 totally agree as the movie can be both for sure but in that movie the most of scenes is comedy even with the zombie killing scenes as this movie could be in another list of top 20 comedy movies for example. That's just my opinion.

Absolutely agree, horror/comedy should be separate because the comedy makes it not feel scary at all anymore. Saw deserved that spot.
@@joeertman The literal definition of horror:
an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust
It's a feeling of being shook whether from fear, shock, or disgust. So, ya, it by definition doesn't make sense for that movie to fit into the horror category. It isn't scary, shocking, etc if you're just laughing your ass off and are unable to take it seriously. My original statement has not changed, there should be a separate category for horror/comedy.
Toni Collette's wailing sound still haunt me to this day.
