I saw Candyman in the theaters when it came out, I was 13 and afterwards wouldn't sleep by myself for months... I just finally worked up the courage to watch it again recently, still scares the crap outta me.
@@Baeslayer yeah. It's in my top 10. As a complete story, the kills, the soundtrack, the nightmare of slavery, the ghost story of revenge, the cultural framework at cabrini green. The coldness in the way it was filmed. The ending. The way Trevor got his karma for being a P.O.S. was epic. The bees crawling out of Tony Todd's mouth.. this movie is a modern masterpiece of horror.. hell, on some days it is number 1 for me..
I can't imagine anything worse/greater than The Exorcist. I saw it in theaters when I was about 12 and it F'D me up😅. I took my then-fiance to see it when they re-released it around 2000. She was 30 at the time and had not seen it and frankly didn't know to much about it. It hit her the same way it hit me after all those years. I told myself then "that's why it will always be the scariest of all time. 😅😮
I never understood the Exorcist hype. Maybe back in the 70s it shocked a generation but no movies peak lasts forever. I was more affected by Juon the Grudge…
For me the scariest part of “Paranormal Activity” was the three and a half hours that the woman stood at the edge of the bed watching her husband sleep. 😳😱
Hereditary is among one of THE greatest modern horror films of all time. It’s absolutely excruciating and soul crushing, yet truly amazing film. Hands down it’s one of the greatest for sure
Yep and I'll never watch it a second time for that reason. The scene in the car, not going into super detail in case someone cares about spoilers for an older movie, fucks with me hard.
Fun fact...the mask worn by the bad guy in Halloween was the face of William shatner who played Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series... For me that was really scary to know!😱😂
Yeah, as someone with pretty severe claustrophobia, The Descent scares the shit out of me WAY before the monsters even show up. I can't even watch it, I get physically ill. Especially when the girl gets stuck and starts to panic. Also, Hereditary should be #1. That movie is so fucking uncomfortable and terrifying it actually gives people depression and phobias.
There should be a "Top 50 Scariest Horror Movies of all time" list because so much great movies were left out such as "Saw" "Chucky" "Friday the 13th" etc
Kinda surprised Child's Play (the first one), Scream, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, and Friday the 13th didn't make the list. I remember the first time I saw The Exorcist though, I actually fell asleep. I liked the book though. Did a book report on it in school.
Man, I’m behind the times. I’ve seen barely over half of these movies. Others that kept me up all night or gave me horrific nightmares were: Friday the 13th The exorcism of Emily Rose Pet Semetary And my personal #1: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) Leatherface wearing Eric Balfour’s skin as a mask, gave me horrible nightmares for weeks.
Many 80s horror movies are scary not in this list The Evil Dead Howling American werewolf in london Demons Night of the demons Friday the 13th ... For me the best one is in 1920s Nosferatu
I will admit Alien is scarier than The Predator, but there's just something about The Predator that scares me more: If a special forces group of trained military men can barely take it down, what chance do you have?
Fortunately they only wants to hunt the most trained people is their important character trait, but you can't be sure no one not their target dies in the crossfire
The 2017 “IT” remake was the only movie in my entire life that ever truly scared the shit out of me. I honestly was left on edge at night while trying to sleep. It was definitely scarier than the original.
They completely ignored the most terrifying horror movie ever JAWS unlike ghost movies and supernatural bs shark attacks are real and the way the movie exposes the audience to it is unmatched how many people have refused to go swimming since seeing it that movie engines fear unlike anything else REAL FEAR
In fact, the 20 entries are literally the exact same as the top 20 scariest horror movies of all time video but added 10 new ones to make top 30 and some of those 10 new ones were from the honorable mentions of that top 20 video too
One day when me and a friend of mine rented the ring for the first time, when we got through watching it on VHS and we popped the movie out of the VCR the damn phone rang and we did not answer it LOL
The Shining is my favorite horror movie. The suspenseful, ominous atmosphere is felt from the very beginning and doesn't let up until the beautiful, otherworldly closing shot.

Its pretty cool that yall finally put Candyman on one of these lists. Badass movie
Halloween will always be my favorite horror film

Fun fact: Stanley Kubrick was originally going to direct The Exorcist.
If he had been picked, the film would had been a thousand times worse!
the exorcist of Emily Rose was pretty intense
"The Fourth Kind" is one of the scariest films I've ever seen.
Yes! I think Fire in the Sky is right there with it too.
Glad you put the strangers on here. That movie is crazy.
Black Christmas 1974 is in my opinion the scariest horror film yet.
I mean this top is full of masterpieces however Sinister and specially The Witch deserved to be much higher.
Last year, John Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ turned 45.
I am SO excited for "The Strangers" trilogy
Hereditary is among one of THE greatest modern horror films of all time. It’s absolutely excruciating and soul crushing, yet truly amazing film. Hands down it’s one of the greatest for sure
Yep and I'll never watch it a second time for that reason. The scene in the car, not going into super detail in case someone cares about spoilers for an older movie, fucks with me hard.
Hereditary was stupid and a horrible horror movie. Should not be in the top 10 at all.
Finally! It was laughable especially last 20 minutes@@anthonycairo9202
So good that I was asleep halfway through the movie 😂
We are very thankful for these movies 🎉🎉
the shining deserved #1 jack Nicholson's acting was insane
One of the most comprehensive lists I've ever seen.
In my opinion Get out isn’t a horror film to me… 🤷🏻♀️
The grudge traumatized me as a child 😂
No, Friday the 13th? How rude.
That movie isnt scary
not scary, it's goofy as hell
It Follows was fantastic!! It was such a fresh approach to a horror movie! The Babadook is crazy too!
Ringu (1998) >>>>> the ring (2002)
The Exorcist is excellent in manipulated psychological horror. The scariest of all movies, I think!
Fun fact...the mask worn by the bad guy in Halloween was the face of William shatner who played Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series...
For me that was really scary to know!😱😂
Poltergeist is ICONIC.
The ‘It’ 2017 remake has proven to be one of the scariest movies ever made.
2nd is comedy
not scary at all
I don’t think yall know what scary really is
It's NOT a remake or a reboot! It is a theatrical adaptation of the novel. You DO know that it's based on a novel, not on the mini-series. Right?
@@999dre7 : And SOME people don't know what a remake is.
Others that kept me up all night or gave me horrific nightmares were:
Friday the 13th
The exorcism of Emily Rose
Pet Semetary
And my personal #1: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) Leatherface wearing Eric Balfour’s skin as a mask, gave me horrible nightmares for weeks.
Many 80s horror movies are scary not in this list
The Evil Dead
Howling
American werewolf in london
Demons
Night of the demons
Friday the 13th
...
"Where evil lurks" directed by Demian Rugna from Argentina is truly scary. You can also watch "Terrified" Both are excellent horror films.
Yes I have heard that is really scary
Yasss 👏👏👏👏
Yeah the dog scene tripped me out
Honorable mention “children of the corn” if you take it back in time that movie was scary as hell when I was younger
Solid list
The 2017 “IT” remake was the only movie in my entire life that ever truly scared the shit out of me. I honestly was left on edge at night while trying to sleep. It was definitely scarier than the original.
Where is Jeepers Creepers
Hereditary really isn't that scary. More disturbing than scary.
They completely ignored the most terrifying horror movie ever JAWS unlike ghost movies and supernatural bs shark attacks are real and the way the movie exposes the audience to it is unmatched how many people have refused to go swimming since seeing it that movie engines fear unlike anything else REAL FEAR
agreed Exorcist number one. i watched it once and never again!
A lot of these films are over rated imo. Would defo say exorcist is #1 tho
And many ppl say “the exorcist “ is overrated. So it’s a draw lol
Pretty awesome! 👍
I'm not surprised the exorcist ranked #1
So many horror movies I like 🍿. It’s hard to decide.
Ha Ha the same
Katie scares me WAY more then Freddy, jason, myers, and the exorcist girl. Paranormal activity is the scariest movie to me.😬
I already know the exorcist will be the number one
In fact, the 20 entries are literally the exact same as the top 20 scariest horror movies of all time video but added 10 new ones to make top 30 and some of those 10 new ones were from the honorable mentions of that top 20 video too
1. the hills have eyes
2. wrong turn
3. the thing
4. the descent
5. jeepers creepers
6. house of wax
7. train to busan
So no jeepers creepers?
Can't wait for Top 40 Scariest Movie All The Time
One day when me and a friend of mine rented the ring for the first time, when we got through watching it on VHS and we popped the movie out of the VCR the damn phone rang and we did not answer it LOL
Lol😂😂😂
The Shining is my favorite horror movie. The suspenseful, ominous atmosphere is felt from the very beginning and doesn't let up until the beautiful, otherworldly closing shot.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Fourth Kind, The Autopsy of Jane Doe
The Fourth Kind 😱
Those are all so good! Really scary.
I’ve seen Exorcism of Emily Rose and the Fourth Kind!! Some really good acting in them
Sinister is hands down one of my favorite horror movies along with Insidious and Hereditary
