Super 8 is a 2011 American science fiction-thriller film written, co-produced, and directed by J. J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg. The film stars Joel Courtney, Elle Fanning, and Kyle Chandler and tells the story of a group of young teenagers who are filming their own Super 8 movie when a train derails, releasing a dangerous presence into their town. The movie was filmed in Weirton, West Virginia and surrounding areas.
Super 8 was released on June 10, 2011,[2] in conventional and IMAX theaters in the US. The film was well received, with critics praising the film for its nostalgia, visual effects, musical score, and for the performances of its young actors, particularly those of Fanning and newcomer Courtney. It was also a commercial success, grossing over $260 million against a $50 million budget. The film received several awards and nominations; primarily in technical and special effects categories, as well as for Courtney and Fanning's performances as the film's two young leads. What the hell kind of truck does that to a train?
I know it's hard to believe but trust me. If you had see what a boar can do to a train, you would easily believe more than those images.
The first wagon is stopped, pulled up by the second and then it's a chain reaction.
Recently in France at Brétigny-sur-Orge a train derailed at ~80mph on a near straight "curve", no collision, just derailed, we found the wagons on three different rails.
The only non-realistic thing in this sequence is the fact that those children should have become deaf

ThePato2007 I know this is a 3 year old comment, but a train has been derailed before just from a vehicle sitting on the tracks. So it is possible.

Holy fuck...I don't even...what happened here? :D I guess physics just took a night off...But it was nice eye candy, I'll give them that, still it made me laugh...Especially that tanker car's tank being conveniently launched by another car. I have a feeling the producers never actually saw a real train crash...I mean they ran the same kind of engine into a loaded semi trailer and well...the front of the engine was in bad shape, but that was about it, in most cases there wasn't even a derailment...I mean wow...Alright, alright, it's a movie! I just wish they at least , dunno,had it run into another train, due to a signal malfunction or something....Much more plausible cause for such an immense crash!
I TOTALLY agree dude. This has just malfunctioned the laws of physics. That 1 tonne pick-up truck would not send a 50 tonne locomotive flying into the air like a car off a ramp. If one large rig truck got completely obliterated by a train then I wonder what would happen to a 1 tonne pick-up truck. The train would just either push the pick-up truck out of the way or send it flying in the air. Not fricking making the TRAIN fly into the air and explode. Plus, how did the other box cars at the back and the middle of the train derail? By and invisible ramp.
What I mean is there are tonnes of train crash videos on youtube where a train rams into a vehicle. The vehicle totals and the train carries on going. The train might have some dent on the front of it but that is about it. You are right though, that event about the shockwave has happened rarely.
In Baltimore one day, a dump truck full of rubbish was destroyed by a cargo train. The impact was so heavy that the train derailed. About half of the train was off the rails. One of the cars had explosives in it. Minutes after the derailment that car exploded.
