  • In this video I will show how to magnetize your Thermic Plasma Conduits and Regulators from the Games Workshop Sector Mechanicus scenery kits.
    As pointed out by Madness by Design, please be careful with the magnets and glue as depending on the glue tiny droplets might become airborne and get into your eyes.
    If you store your scenery in colder places I recommend not using superglue as this may freeze and break meaning the magnets will no longer be stuck in place inside your piece.

    WARNING! When you use a magnet to pull another magnet into place, DO NOT have the piece pointed toward your eyes! The glue splatter can get launched right into them. One of the first times I did this, I felt a tiny droplet hit my cheek. I realized, when you do this, you should have it tilted so you actually can't see the magnet...

      Thanks for the advice, I had no issues with this myself but it will obviously depends o a lot of factors. I also recommend not using superglue if you store them in cold places during winter as the magnets may come off due to the glue freezing and breaking.

      @@scumb4g.kustoms I had used magnets to pull others into place a few times with no problems before I felt that little drop, but I realized how lucky I was. You may not have had this issue since you're using the gel, and I think I was using regular superglue. Still, probably best to at least wear some kind of protective glasses, just to be safe... :)
      Also, the point about freezing glue breaking is a good one. :)

      @@madnessbydesign1415 Yes the gel part might actually be better for this, but always good to take precautions like protective eyewear! Thank you for making me aware of this!

    I like how I have had almost the opposite idea for how to do the pipes. Make all the long parts with negative polarity pointing out each in, and then positive pointing out on broken ends, control points, bends, terrain ect. I will then cut a long section into 4 "super shorty" sections, 2 posative and two negative as a adaptor.

      great idea as well, too late for me now though :p

      Thanks, I'm still working on the newer terrain but have been way too busy lately to finish it :(

    Many thanks for this -- you worked out the diameter pretty good for the pipes -- I just snagged a nice handful on Ebay for cheap. This method will end up working well for the various games I want to use these pipes in. Big Domo Domo!

    What strength magnets are you using here? N35 magnets are half the price of N42/N52 ones, so it'd be good to know if I can go for the cheaper option before I order anything.

    Great tutorial! Will this technique also work on the promethium pipes too?

      @scumb4g.kustoms  6 лет назад +5

      yes but they need 12 mm magnets (I use 12mm x 3mm)

    Question, any problems with the strong magnets doing funny things with magnetize minis while playing?

    • @scumb4g.kustoms
      @scumb4g.kustoms  6 лет назад +1

      I haven't had any issues so far, the plastic of the model tones down the strength of the magnets as well.

      Hey man, once again thanks for the videos.
      What are your thoughts on magnetizing the new terrain. I think the modular pillars can be magnetized by using ferromagnetic rods (ie. nickel?). So polarity shouldn't be a problem. Thoughts?

    • @scumb4g.kustoms
      @scumb4g.kustoms  6 лет назад

      ignitedxblaze I had the same thought, just need to make sure the magnets you use are strong enough as the plastic seems to be quite thick. I'm on holiday now but bought a lot of the new stuff so will get back to it when I'm back home and try to make a video as soon as I figure out the best way to magnitize them.

      I've almost finished magnetizing my set, went for a different approach as the pillars are to thick and need magnets on both sides.
      I'm about to move house but will make a video on this once I have.

    How many do I need to magnetize the pipes and the plasma regulators?

    • @scumb4g.kustoms
      @scumb4g.kustoms  6 лет назад

      Just one set? tbh most magnets aren't that expensive so just buy a big amount of them so you know you have enough. there's a lot of companies that ship for free as well.

    • @beefge
      @beefge 6 лет назад

      Well, I checked ebay and it's quite expensive for me. That's why I didn't want to buy extra magnets. 30 Euro for a couple magnets is tough. Yes, I know that ordering from China is cheaper but I didn't want to wait for 4 to 6 weeks to get the magnets that's why I asked for help.

    • @scumb4g.kustoms
      @scumb4g.kustoms  6 лет назад

      Ah yes the waiting time can be long from China, I think I bought from the UK before as well let me have a quick look for you.

      The pipes alone need 56 15mm magnets

      Do you think n35 magnets would be enough or I need to go for the n52? These are quite expensive :( @Scumb4g Kustoms
