I make a half double crochet (hdc) for the last corner instead of slip stitching the 3 dc and the ch 3 to get to the next round. I then do a stacked single crochet (stsc), then 2 dc in same space. The hdc gets me in the middle of the corner, and the hdc is the same as a ch 2. It eliminates the slip stitching and the chain 3 to get to the next round. It makes the transition to the next round seamless.
I like this... I will definitely try the next time I make it. Thank you so much for taking time to watch and comment with your suggestion!
It woul be a litle easyer if you said how many stitces between. The 2 or the 3. Stitch in the beginning it is a litle difficult to see. Thanks.
I don't do any stitches between the granny clusters. I keep them tighter looking. You could add the extra space if you wish.
Hi, what is the beginning stitch count if I wanted to make it wider?
I used a chain of 197. The chain needs to be an odd number so that your rows end up an even number. So you can customize to what ever size you wish.
First timer here and I’m loving this blanket! My only question is how many times do I go around before adding the 3 single crochets? Thanks!
I did 32 rounds before my border.
awsome tutorial and explains and shows very well, only thing Kelly you go out of view sometimes
Ok im a bit lost already and haven't even started 😊 I want to make a lap blanket so my chain would be loger right more then 25 then anybody out there that could help me out please
It kinda looks like you have a border on it but video doesn't say there a border can you please tell me if you did border and what it is
How do I keep mine from being crooked and turning in the center?
I just finished my first “Granny Rectangle Baby Blue Blanket” and love it. Thank you for precise and slow instructions! I plan to make it again using the same yarn in the color “Pedals” (pinks and purples). I did something to cause a tiny “pooch” on the ends of the first row of granny squares. It might have been related to my tension or maybe I did something incorrectly, I’m not sure. I was so busy stopping and starting the video as I crocheted the first few rows I didn’t notice it until I was several rows in and I didn’t want to start over. It’s not really that bad, I’m just a perfectionist and want to learn what I did wrong. I was wondering if you offer written printable instructions as I would love to add this pattern to my Crochet pattern book. Thank you again for helping me learn how to make my first granny square blanket. I can’t wait to start my second one!
I'm so glad you found this video helpful and you love the result. This yarn is so nice to work with and the self-striping eliminates all the extra work of weaving in the ends. Here is a link to my website where I do have the pattern. kellyreneeveryday.com/the-crochet-granny-rectangle-baby-blanket/
Thank you so much for taking time to watch and comment.
What color is one the label I can't find it
In the link provided for the instructions for the free pattern it states to start with Chain 2 - instead of Chain 25. I just followed your video tutorial to start making this.
Was going to print out the instructions (for later use) when I noticed the above.
Thanks for being there for all of us. Looking to make many of your projects ❤❤
Thank you for your help I am following you in the video this is my first blanket to make

Hello Kelly, I love this pattern ! I have this yarn and can't wait to use it on this blanket. Kelly did you start your striping yarn from the center of the skein or did you tear off the label and start from the outside of the skein to get that beautiful striping pattern?
I let the yarn do it's thing. Since it is self striping, I did not plan for starting or stopping at all. I pulled from the center on the cake I had. But you can start at the outside too.
Beautiful! I love all your projects. I have made many of them and excited to give this one a try. Thanks for sharing! ❤
You are so welcome! Have a Merry Christmas Polly!
I have a huge question very important help help help I wanted to do the sleeves of my granny Square sweater all one rectangle, granny square so that there was virtually no scene just one down the side so in order to do that how many chains would I need to do if the sleeve dimensions were going to be 23 inches longby 14 inches wide because it’s gonna keep increasing and length every time I go around so I’m not exactly sure what the middle should start out to be. Is there any kind of formula that I can use so that I end up with the correct size?
This will be my second rectangular granny throw or blanket and I love it!! You are a really fantastic teacher and for this inventor your channel!!🎉🎉🎉🎉 now about those stitch markers, they’re too cute where didn’t get them?!!
Thank you for a great tutorial.
You are welcome! Thank you for taking time to watch and comment. I really appreciate it!
Hi Kelly, LOVE this video! Did you just use one skein? How did you know when to stop?
I have this exact yarn! I was wanting to crochet a baby blanket for a co worker that's expecting! This is perfect!
That is awesome! I was surprised how far this one cake went...You will love it!! Thank you for watching!
How many rounds did you do before you made the border?
Thank you so much🙏😊. You’re an awesome teacher…
Thank you!! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
Id love to do this but in Florida it is too hot for mothers to use these kinds of blankets…I’ve been using these cakes for ponchos. They are fun.
Just so you know, the granny stitch provides a light weight fabric with 'holes'. You could use a lighter gage yarn to make it less bulky too. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment.
@@kellyreneeveryday yes I’ve been crocheting for 50 years. Got back into it when YT only had a handful of channels. I tend to make airier things bc of florida weather
You could always use cotton to crochet it. In my country of origin we only use cotton. When you're only six degrees south of the equator acrylic and wool are out of the question.
This is such a lovely pattern. Two questions, I’m not using self striping yarn, where in the pattern would I start with a different color and would I start it in a corner hole.. Also, do we not have to turn the work? Thank you!
@@shannonmiles8910 you may have wanted to put your question not under my comment?
Love same colors that you do!
I am making this for my granddaughter who is 2 months old….
She will love it for many years and will be a precious heirloom.
Thank you for taking time to watch and comment! I really appreciate it.
I am Kelly Renee also. So wild.
Thank you. I'm making mine larger for a crib blanket.
Wonderful! Just keep going until it makes the size you like. Thank you for taking time to watch and comment! I really appreciate it.
I absolutely love this. Thank You for sharing

Kelly - on the Cake yarn where did you pull the yarn start - Pull yarn from out of the center on the end side of the yarn - OR remove the outside paper wrapper and pull the yarn from there (outside) of cake yarn? Just curious if where you start with your yarn would make a difference (in pattern striping)? Thanks
This video is just in time for our niece who is expecting her first baby; a boy, in a few months.
You can honestly start where ever you feel you want to. I did start in the middle, but the outside would work too. Congrats on the new baby in the family!!
