@abso wep what has he said that is "anti-white"? I'm white and I didnt find anything about what he said "anti-white" or offensive. I actually related to it a lot.
@abso wep actually if you would of asked me that question rather than assume, you would of found out that my political views are center right. The point you make makes zero sense, also you still haven't answered the question. What of what he said is "anti-white"?
@abso wep this is because black people have had to deal with things that white people will never understand. for example if an orphan said orphans are great, he isn't anti people with parents. your logic, in fact shows how ignorant you are. you see something like this and automatically think its about some you (assuming you are white , which you probably are), no it's about giving hope to those black people who needed to hear this.
He had a choice of any of his songs. Professor X. Disaster. Location. Thiago Silva. He could have promoted himself even more if he wanted. Instead he went for a song with a message, big up dave 🙌🏼

"least racist is still racist" "equality's a right, it doesn't deserve credit" man is out here explaining the entirety of racism in less than 5 minutes and they can't even teach us a fraction about it in 14 years of schooling
Such simple concepts that people just don’t understand. Using the defence of “that country is more racist than ours” doesn’t erase the experience of poc in this country.
I am always amazed to hear that this part of history was left out of the education curriculum in this part of the world. Growing up in a British colony we learnt about the history of the British Empire, it's victories in wars and the Royal family. This incomplete history is still a subject choice for some schools today. Now that I'm older and have read more, I understand why some people can say they did not learn most of this at school. But despite that knowledge gap, most of the commentary has been exceptionally positive and encouraging. Thank you everyone for such encouragement to a young man shaping his career and shaking the world at the same time. I salute.
Dave should of sang this in Africa and Asia where there is the most racism. And black is a dark ugly colour. No one wants to look charcoaled grilled😂😂😂😂😂
How old are you? Dave is 21 years old. He could have done anything at the BRITs. He chose to do this. Dave is one of the most uniquely talented individuals in the world. "If you don't wanna get it, then you're never gonna get it." Wise so far beyond his years. Be like Dave!
we are all uniquely talented individuals. dave jus has the heart, tenacity and discipline to do what nearly everyone else doesn't. we all can its all about mindset

The most powerful Brits performance ever. I still come back to it nearly four years later. I have never experienced any of the pain expressed through the song but the skill and talent of this man makes you feel it. How was he 21 when he did this!?!?!
To the U.K. hip hop folks... the crown is yours. We Americans clearly don’t want quality anymore. Take it and run with it. Just bring it back to what it should be. Absolute quality.
Blackman JPEG in the mainstream? GTFOH. Kendrick and Cole are our only REAL soldiers and they get pushed aside for whack ass Cardi B, Young Thug, and everyone else that can’t seem to complete a f*cking sentence. It’s strip club music at best, which coincidently is where it stemmed from. Is there quality? In small pockets perhaps, but nothing on scale of the trash that’s being pumped out 24-7 in major markets. Til Drake can find a team to ghostwrite a rebuttal for Adidon, you can miss me with the bs.
Uk hip-hop surpassed American hip-hop long ago because it is more intellectual and political. I think USA hip-hop became to much about selling record and being shallow to appeal to white audiences. True fact the region in the USA that buys the most hip-hop is Utah one of the whitest regions in the USA because white Americans consume more hip-hop that black people in the USA, which is why mainstream US hip-hop doesn’t say anything political as not to upset their target white audience who want black stereotypes like the mumble rappers and hoes with big butts and boobs like Niki Minaj or Cardi B rapping nonsense

This is one of the most powerful songs humanity's ever produced. There's so much to dissect, regardless of how easy to understand the song is. Shivers down my whole body. Seriously. Dave will forever be the UK's best.
Just because we always take the credit away from the amasing and heavenly talented black people (not sure if this was the intent here), but I feel a strong urge to comment that it is not humanity that produced the song, it is Dave that produced it, a enormously talented black man.
I know many don't know who Jack Merrit is, he was a victim in the London Bridge attack in the U.K. who died. He was a prison rehabilitation officer in the U.K., who had worked personally with Dave's brother who is in jail. He gave Jack's parents tickets to watch this at the BRITs and they had no idea it included that extra verse and were "moved to tears" . Grenfell tower was a tower block in London that went on fire and many people died and left thousands displaced with no hope despite governments empty promises. Windrush generation is also another refrence to a horrifying act by the incapable government.
The wind rush generation is the generation of Caribbean people who came to the Uk I’m the 1960s as they were offered opportunities but received no help or anything when arriving
@@blueberryxbugaboo6902 What’s worse is they were literally invited, people from colonies were invited after WW2 due to labour shortages but the government deported many of them as time went on, from what I know it’s because they weren’t documented properly which the government used against them.
Im not black, but i am middle eastern. When he said "It's working twice as hard As the people you know you're better than 'Cause you need to do double what they do So you can level them", i really felt that. Specially when it comes to school and grades and my dad when it comes to getting a job and providing for the family. Even though I'm not black, as a minority in a white Scandinavian country, i really felt this too! Love you black brothers and love this song too!

I literally have no earthly idea how you'd sit there and recite a song that complicated with that much meaning with that size of a crowd and just absolutely nail it like that.... didn't miss a single beat...... un-fucking-believable
Dave, hands down, the most versatile, and talented individual to come out of the U.K - Not only lyrically, but also his flows. Definition of a true U.K bred Rapper - We are proud to have him represent us!!!
System South what do you know, your just a stranger behind a screen not knowing the guy's ability!! He could be a producer for big stars and here is you saying total nonsense I'm sorry please just don't judge other people always think before you speak
I’m not black. But I am blown away. I thought Dave killed it when I watched him at Glasto. But wow. What a piece of art. What a proponent for the truth. It fills me with hope. And in an ever changing world artists like Dave are finally getting recognised. Congratulations man.

@@bigboi1228 Basically, he's referencing the media scrutiny that Megan faced compared to Kate. Of which the main problem was not the scrutiny itself but that it was based on her skin colour. Media tabloids just were filled with covert racist messages. When compared to Kate, often Megan would be doing the same things but the media would find something to say that subtly referred to her Americaness and why she was so 'different'. It got so bad at one point this led Megan to say something in a documentary about how she was feeling, she said 'its not enough to jsut survive, it's about living to thrive'. This came after Harry feared that Megan life would end the same as his mother princess Diana, because the media scrutiny was related to her death. Ofcourse Diana's reason for beinf bullied was because she didn't come from Royality, Megan on the other hand is her "urbaness". Lol That's the type of shitt they would use in the media when talking about her. After that interveiw, the media was worse than before. Saying that Megan should shutup and take it, since its a privalege to be part of the royal family. The bullying just got worse and continued. I'm glad Megan and Harry got out, I don't think it would've ended well for Megan if she stayed. Hope that explains it.
@ Didn't say kate deserved scrutiny. I have nothing against kate. People always say oh Megan took him away from his family, BUT isn't Harry his own man. Does he not have agency to make choices? He moved away because he wanted to put his immediate family first which is Megan and Archie. Imagine seeing your wife everyday trying to keep her head above water which isn't good for anyones mental health and there's nothing you can do about it. Ofcourse you'll make the same choice, if you had a choice. Harry and Megan made this choice together, they are husband and wife. People make Megan some kind of witch who's sole purpose is to break up the royal family. She wouldn't have tried to be a part of it, if that was her goal. She embraced his family, it's just Britain didn't embrace her. One more thing, you'll never understand covert racism if you haven't experienced it.
Amy frances ur fucking weird if you think the uk isnt racist towards megan. the only reason harry left was because of the hate megan got and still gets from the media
daft wod haha give it a rest you’ve been replying for more than 3 months 😂 nothing save said was wrong btw hope this helps 👍🏾 controversial maybe but wrong, no.
He knew Jack personally as he'd been helping with Dave's brother in prison so this really meant something to him and is probably the best tribute to what Jack stood for I've seen. He was a hero even before he gave his life.

@NotTheBBCNewz Illiterate means not being able to read. If Dave wrote the lyrics and others can read them, then they are not illiterate. If woke music upsets you so much then don't listen. Dave is just a modern 2020 version of what Public Enemy and NWA were saying in 80s and 90s, which if you actually knew hip hop you would understand.
@NotTheBBCNewz How's Dave racist? Come on, don't just say it and have no proof. Where's your proof he's racist? There's loads of proof to back up what he's sayin. Can already tell you got triggered by him because he's black and is educating young people about the shit show that is the government. I bet you call Stormzy a racist aswell for calling out corrupt officials to do with Grenfell... Fucking wake up you sap.
@@lukewarmape603 The point was the racism that followed as people abused Rashford, Saka and Sancho (and just black people in general) following the penalites. If they had scored and England won those same people committing the racial abuse would have been praising them as the greatest players of this generation.
I think everyone should know who Dave is, he’s not just a stereotypical grime artist, fast paced and sweary, here he’s inspiring thousands, millions, rapping true words which is relevant to today’s culture, I think everyone needs to listen to Dave for a change, so they will realise how racism has such a big impact, whether they like it or not
How can he vulture a culture that was created by us? Better yet how’s he racist? The level of ignorance people have towards minorities and people of colour is ridiculous.

Dedinatley a refreshing top u.k rapper but never ever the greatest intellectual rapper..... Nas and co without a doubt would've inspired him. But better than the rest of these boring, drug talking, story pretender tellers that rap today
This statement shows you know very little about rap. Sure, Dave is astoundingly talented, an amazing lyricist and is killing it at the moment.. but the best ever? I'd hold off on that. Artists like Akala, Skepta, JME and Kano have been in the game a lot longer and slaying it with intellectually provocative and powerful lyrics for going on 15 years now. In an ideal word it shouldn't come down to comparisons of who is the best ever, or who is better than who. We should learn to appreciate each and every one of them equally and individually, and enjoy their message and their art. It's not a competition, as much as the charts would like to tell you.
Are you dumb? Great performance, but Dave is a long way off being the most intellectual artist ever. I don't even think he has the capacity to do that. Very promising artist nonetheless.
It's not always the police, I can tell you for certainly police killing blacks or other races for racism has gone down, that's what I believe, nonetheless what happened is horrible.
Seeing this performance as a non black person, I’m still left with nothing else than tears in my eyes. Dave is not only telling the raw truth about blacks being marginalised, but above that he is giving all who feels discriminated or oppressed a voice. It’s not only an incredible performance, but further it’s very important that he illuminates this issue.
@Nate Conner owed to you? Seriously we owe you something? 600 years ago you have no idea what even happened, Granted times back then was hard (probs) but in today's standards especially in the UK black or white are treated equally, When he goes on about blacks have to work harder etc.. is bull s**t I don't see any black people that willing do the ugly jobs, drainage clearing, bin man etc etc.. They automatically think they are better than that, When he goes on about guilty before innocent, that is because he's on about young crime (knife+bike) crime which 95% in a black community which then chances are the person that's done it is black, People need to wake up and more on we don't owe anything the past is the past, we can't change that, the future is already changed with equality etc.. So this whole song is just to make the divide, the black community still want..
Jakob Schmidt-Andersen Racist Dave If people still keep bringing up race and skin colour we will never progress past it ffs The struggle you mention are all in your head I grew up in a multicultural city and have not seen any difference to how non whites get treated So pls stop trying to segregate and separate each other just because the colour of our skin is different otherwise it’s you who is responsible for this segregation
@Jakob Schmidt-Andersen Yeah, some egotistical bellend spits one line and thousands of white people start cheering, the first thing that comes to mind is marginalisation, hahahahaha! Issues my arse!
Not sure you can compare Shakespeare and a 21 year old rapper. It’s plain ignorance to suggest that this should be taught in schools over the likes of Maya Angelou and Oscar Wilde.
@@BrawsonProductions If you think that Shakespeare, Angelou & Wilde are all there is to be said for poetry, then I suggest you re-evaluate your education in English Literature.
Zoe Osborn your statement was ‘this is the kind of poetry we should be teaching’ suggesting that you would like to radically change the kind of poetry which is currently being taught i.e. from the likes of Shakespeare, Angelou and Wilde.
Lol this guy was racist himself. Plus the UK is 3% black people, yet over half of the nominees were black in fear of being labelled racist. As long as black people keep portraying themselves as little people who are victims that need special attention, people will view them as little people not to hit instead of on the same level.
I am a white guy from the multicultrul slums of london (although I am 49 now) but this shit was true when i was a youngster. Also all those little English girls that were r4ped up and down the country with the r4pe gangs. The Establishment and Media tried to cover it up for over a decade for fear of being called racists and risking the 3rd world kicking off in our country. Michael Ward was right give it 10-20 years and Dave will be considered as one of the best of all time. As he's already the best in the UK at only 21 years old.
He is amazing, no denying that at all. I can never take anything away from him, ever. He’s certainly on the path to being a legend but as it stands, in my opinion, he isn’t the best in the UK by far. He’s sick as fuck but he’s no Harry Styles (that’s a joke btw).
He is definitely the best rapper in the UK, fredo, aj tracey, mostack, not3s, skepta and stormzy are close but their intellect and stories to tell are way below Dave's bar that he has set.
@The V0iD it bugs me how people still don't understand the difference between equality and same. A 25 Yr old paedo should be equal to a war veteran, yes. Equality would be a fair, being treated the same wouldn't be equal. Cmon this is really basic stuff.
Dave has came from the bottom with no father figure, no one to look up to in his life with his mother working every day (over time), he deserves the award look how far he has come !!
Another one to add to the odds of coming from a broken home. Maybe he’s done well. His brother on the other hand is in jail for MURDERING ANOTHER BLACK BOY!!
India has a ton of internalized racism/colourism though. If you havent experienced it firsthand you mightve seen it happen to your kinfolk or your friends

Com) [Verse 1] Look, black is beautiful, black is excellent Black is pain, black is joy, black is evident Workin' twice as hard as the people you know you're better than 'Cause you need to do double what they do so you can level them Black is so much deeper than just African-American Our heritage been severed, you never got to experiment With family trees, 'cause they teach you 'bout famine and greed Show you pictures of our fam on their knees Tell us we used to be barbaric, we had actual queens Black is watchin' child soldiers gettin' killed by other children Feelin' sick so quick, this could have happened to me Mummy watchin' tellin' stories 'bout your dad and your niece, listen The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice Kid dies, the blacker the killer, the sweeter the news And if he's white, you give him a chance, he's ill and confused If he's black he's probably armed, you see him and shoot, look [Verse 2] Black is growin' up around the barbershop Mummy sayin', "Stay away from trouble, you’re in yard a lot" Studying for ages, appreciatin' the chance you got 'Cause black is in your blood, and you ain't even got the heart to stop Black is steppin' in for your brothers because your father's gone Standin' by your children when you haven't proven karma wrong Black is doin' all of the above, then go and corner shop Tryna help a lady cross the road to have her walkin' off Black is growin' up around your family and makin' it Being forced to leave the place you love because there's hate in it People say you're faking it, never stay for change in it But black is bein' jealous, you'd be dead if you had stayed in it Black is strugglin' to find your history and tracing it You don't know the truth about your race 'cause they're erasin' it Black has got a really sour flavour, here's a taste of it But black is all I know, there ain't a thing that I would change in it [Verse 3] Look, black isn't a single colour, man, there's shades to it Her hair's straight and thick, but mine's got waves in it Black is not divisive, they been lyin' and I'm hating it Black has never been a competition, we're all making it Black is deadly Black is when you're freezin' in your home and you can't get sleep, but never feelin' empty 'Cause you got twenty cousins in your country living stress-free Walkin' for their water, daughter wrapped inside a bedsheet Black is distant It's representin' countries that never even existed while your grandmother was livin' Black is my Ghanaian brother readin' into scriptures Doin' research on his lineage, findin' out that he's Egyptian Black is people namin' your countries on what they trade most Coast of Ivory, Gold Coast, and the Grain Coast But most importantly to show how deep all this pain goes West Africa, Benin, they called it slave coast Black is so confusin', 'cause the culture? They're in love with it Take our features when they want and have their fun with it Never seem to help with all the things we know would come with it Loud in our laughter, silent in our sufferin' Black is bein' strong inside and facing defeat Poverty made me a beast, I battled the law in the streets We all struggled, but your struggle ain't a struggle like me Well how could it be when your people gave us the odds that we beat? I mean, bloody hell, what about our brothers that are stuck in jail? That couldn't bust a bail, they held a bird and gotta live with it Black is bein' guilty until proven that you're innocent Black is sayin', "Free all my people stuck inside them prison cells" Think it's funny, we ain't got nothin' to say to them Unconditional love is strange to them, it's amazin' 'em Black has really got the sweetest flavour, here's a taste of it But black is all I know, there ain't a thing that I would change in it [Verse 4] It is racist whether or not it feels racist The truth is our Prime Minister is a real racist They say, "You should be grateful we're the least racist" I say the least racist is still racist And if somebody hasn't said it Equality is a right, it doesn't deserve credit Now if you don't want to get it, then you're never gonna get it How the news treats Kate versus how they treated Megan Rest in Peace Jack Merritt, you're my brother in arms There's tears in our eyes and love in our hearts We never had the same background, culture, colour, or past But you devoted your life to giving others a chance And for that, I'm so taken aback Because it gave us all a voice, I have to say it for Jack As a young black man seeing paper and crack Giving tougher sentences, it's just papering cracks All he would want is unity, funding for communities Equal opportunities, people under scrutiny No more immunity, way less hatred More conservation, less deforestation We want rehabilitation, now that would be amazing But Grenfell victims still need accommodation And we still need support for the Windrush generation Reparations for the time our people spent on plantations I'm done
he could’ve gone up there and performed a catchy hit that the audience would sing along too and instead he chose the controversial one that the media and uk slated him for to prove a point. and good for him for paying tribute to jack and saskia, i had no idea he know the victims personally
CAM call me cynical, but I think he also chose it because he knows of all the songs, it’ll engage the most people watching on tv at home - people who don’t listen to rap will be engaged by him because of his accusations and diatribe against the government.
CAM The media didn’t slate him. The media doled praise on him. This nonsense is the mainstream, it is Dave’s ideology that dominates our institutions. Dave is just a propaganda tool.
Used this in an assembly last week for Black History Month at my secondary school to show pupils why it is so important that we ALL have an understanding of all aspects of Black history. abso wep i mean hes not, he shouted out a white guy in this song you idiot

Dave is racist. Most black people are (because they think only white people can be)
Such simple concepts that people just don’t understand.

I love that he called out the media bullshitting with kate and megan.
Nusaybah Saad I’m from america, what happened
Nusaybah Saad Thank you, I understand it now
@ Didn't say kate deserved scrutiny.

@Nate Conner you need one
@Nate Conner owed to you? Seriously we owe you something? 600 years ago you have no idea what even happened,
Granted times back then was hard (probs) but in today's standards especially in the UK black or white are treated equally,
When he goes on about blacks have to work harder etc.. is bull s**t I don't see any black people that willing do the ugly jobs, drainage clearing, bin man etc etc..
They automatically think they are better than that,
When he goes on about guilty before innocent, that is because he's on about young crime (knife+bike) crime which 95% in a black community which then chances are the person that's done it is black,
People need to wake up and more on we don't owe anything the past is the past, we can't change that, the future is already changed with equality etc..
So this whole song is just to make the divide, the black community still want..

Look, black is beautiful, black is excellent
Black is pain, black is joy, black is evident
Workin' twice as hard as the people you know you're better than
'Cause you need to do double what they do so you can level them
Black is so much deeper than just African-American
Our heritage been severed, you never got to experiment
With family trees, 'cause they teach you 'bout famine and greed
Show you pictures of our fam on their knees
Tell us we used to be barbaric, we had actual queens
Black is watchin' child soldiers gettin' killed by other children
Feelin' sick so quick, this could have happened to me
Mummy watchin' tellin' stories 'bout your dad and your niece, listen
The blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice
Kid dies, the blacker the killer, the sweeter the news
And if he's white, you give him a chance, he's ill and confused
If he's black he's probably armed, you see him and shoot, look
[Verse 2]
Black is growin' up around the barbershop
Mummy sayin', "Stay away from trouble, you’re in yard a lot"
Studying for ages, appreciatin' the chance you got
'Cause black is in your blood, and you ain't even got the heart to stop
Black is steppin' in for your brothers because your father's gone
Standin' by your children when you haven't proven karma wrong
Black is doin' all of the above, then go and corner shop
Tryna help a lady cross the road to have her walkin' off
Black is growin' up around your family and makin' it
Being forced to leave the place you love because there's hate in it
People say you're faking it, never stay for change in it
But black is bein' jealous, you'd be dead if you had stayed in it
Black is strugglin' to find your history and tracing it
You don't know the truth about your race 'cause they're erasin' it
Black has got a really sour flavour, here's a taste of it
But black is all I know, there ain't a thing that I would change in it
[Verse 3]
Look, black isn't a single colour, man, there's shades to it
Her hair's straight and thick, but mine's got waves in it
Black is not divisive, they been lyin' and I'm hating it
Black has never been a competition, we're all making it
Black is deadly
Black is when you're freezin' in your home and you can't get sleep, but never feelin' empty
'Cause you got twenty cousins in your country living stress-free
Walkin' for their water, daughter wrapped inside a bedsheet
Black is distant
It's representin' countries that never even existed while your grandmother was livin'
Black is my Ghanaian brother readin' into scriptures
Doin' research on his lineage, findin' out that he's Egyptian
Black is people namin' your countries on what they trade most
Coast of Ivory, Gold Coast, and the Grain Coast
But most importantly to show how deep all this pain goes
West Africa, Benin, they called it slave coast
Black is so confusin', 'cause the culture? They're in love with it
Take our features when they want and have their fun with it
Never seem to help with all the things we know would come with it
Loud in our laughter, silent in our sufferin'
Black is bein' strong inside and facing defeat
Poverty made me a beast, I battled the law in the streets
We all struggled, but your struggle ain't a struggle like me
Well how could it be when your people gave us the odds that we beat?
I mean, bloody hell, what about our brothers that are stuck in jail?
That couldn't bust a bail, they held a bird and gotta live with it
Black is bein' guilty until proven that you're innocent
Black is sayin', "Free all my people stuck inside them prison cells"
Think it's funny, we ain't got nothin' to say to them
Unconditional love is strange to them, it's amazin' 'em
Black has really got the sweetest flavour, here's a taste of it
But black is all I know, there ain't a thing that I would change in it
[Verse 4]
It is racist whether or not it feels racist
The truth is our Prime Minister is a real racist
They say, "You should be grateful we're the least racist"
I say the least racist is still racist
And if somebody hasn't said it
Equality is a right, it doesn't deserve credit
Now if you don't want to get it, then you're never gonna get it
How the news treats Kate versus how they treated Megan
Rest in Peace Jack Merritt, you're my brother in arms
There's tears in our eyes and love in our hearts
We never had the same background, culture, colour, or past
But you devoted your life to giving others a chance
And for that, I'm so taken aback
Because it gave us all a voice, I have to say it for Jack
As a young black man seeing paper and crack
Giving tougher sentences, it's just papering cracks
All he would want is unity, funding for communities
Equal opportunities, people under scrutiny
No more immunity, way less hatred
More conservation, less deforestation
We want rehabilitation, now that would be amazing
But Grenfell victims still need accommodation
And we still need support for the Windrush generation
Reparations for the time our people spent on plantations
I'm done
Thanks for the lyrics😁

@@Y1NIESTA your point? I did mention the source was genius lyrics... So🤷🏻♀️
he could’ve gone up there and performed a catchy hit that the audience would sing along too and instead he chose the controversial one that the media and uk slated him for to prove a point. and good for him for paying tribute to jack and saskia, i had no idea he know the victims personally
@@Miquelalalaa You only think like that because you don't get it. Educate yourself and understand more from a different viewpoint than your own.
@@Miquelalalaa you are a fucking moron.

Used this in an assembly last week for Black History Month at my secondary school to show pupils why it is so important that we ALL have an understanding of all aspects of Black history. It has had such a positive impact and explained it in much better words than I ever could. SUCH a powerful song, thank you Dave for writing it ❤ one of the greatest
