Me watching WOH: How did all of that flirting get past the censorship?! Me watching this video: Wait, that was the censored version?? WOH creators treat us well
I think that this censorship thing is great. Look at how creative and innovative people become to get around it. Not to mention how much fun and internet traffic we all have with all the spin-off "revelation" videos. I am also totally amazed that such a lot of people can do lip reading in China. I just thought that some of the lines are ridiculous and rather illogical in the context of the scene. Now I know. 😂
Is the dubbing really just because of the censorship? Bcs sometimes especially in period drama i thought it was bcs they have "different word" used on that era and modern era
@@leticiavieira834 I heard that costume dramas always get dubbed because of the different dialects in China. So dubbing allows them all to speak with the same accent. Furthermore, there are a lot of noise on set so that is also another reason. There are a lot of other reasons as well.
I watched word of honour just for fun , but instead I learned the art of flirting and discover many beautiful traditional chinese poems. Very educational indeed.
Yeah its really kind of sad becuz im chinese so i get that there sooo many lines in this show that is not that accurately translated OR the meaning and emotion behind alot of the poems couldn't be translated by language. This show especially becuz alot of the love lines spoken by wen kexing and zhou zishu is full of loving hidden meaning but is very hard for non chinese speakers to get it due to its poetic nature.
The duality of Gu Xiang telling Wen Kexing that Zhou Zishu makes him feel more human then thinking of Zhou Zishu as a fox demon who seduced him and sucked all of his essence is honestly very valid of her. Imagine being her and seeing your master ruthless and brutally cold towards everyone until he meets the love of his life and becomes this unabashed flirt who 100% turns into a puppy whenever he's around him.

Dialects in southern China is confusing too hahaha. Although people speaks the same dialect in one area, they still couldn’t understand each other quite well (only roughly) because different villages have slightly different accents and slangs.🤫😬

I had this problem with The Untamed, as I watched it first and read it afterwards and I kid you not, after finishing the book I understood the story and drama better. This just helps me understand the story better and most of all, the characters. Because there's censorship going on with this drama as well as things are changed a lot, some things might seem out of place or not explained fully, like all the feelings and thoughts our main characters are having, all the past that has some importance which have been changed in the drama (thus far some things) and the lines, as Avenue and other sharp sighted people have figured out, have been "straightened". If you want to, you can read it while watching the drama but I will say, confusion will be your friend even then - some scenes are totally different between the two (book vs. drama) and the sequences have either changed wholly or nonexistent in the drama (or they're upcoming events in the future episodes, who knows). Oh my god! Thank you for this! My Chinese is very mediocre so when I was on Weibo I understood some of the changes made but I didn't get a lot of the poetry and context of the idioms so this was so useful! So fun. And yes totally agree that the crew did this intentionally knowing that they can just re-dub over. Hehehehe.
I bought a separate notebook to use for writing idioms from Chinese dramas because of this drama. I noticed it's chinese idiom heavy. I'm also a chinese language learner. 13 months now
I have already seen a few videos dubbed by fans with the real script that are really high quality and I hope one day these can be edited into the real episodes to create an unofficial "uncensored" version of the whole drama. I'd download that 😂
I just love all this naughtiness... glorious exposé, ahh just so cheeky of the script writers. Simon Gong n Zhang Zhe Han in their elements shamelessly flirting ... I m so thoroughly entertained. AX your eloquence in words n animated ways of explaining these dubbing over, done for sake of satisfying Chinese film censorship is much much appreciated. So much fun!
I enjoy the fact that the production team intentionally wanted the audience to figure out what was being said. Some of the dubbed parts had me so confused at some points
I swear, she’s the Empress Dowager in the kdramas/cdramas that paves the way for her grandchildren when it comes to love. She suits the role of being an esteemed prophet or something.
I came across your videos back when I first finished watching Word of Honor. As a non-native English speaker who had zero knowledge about the Chinese language (and cdramas in general) I could sometimes tell that something was amiss in the translations (the dead rat scene for example) and how official English translations are 'modified' to be 'family friendly' so translations are usually a mixed bag for me. But after watching your videos, I really want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. I really loved WoH and the whole cast and team did an amazing job and the way you worked so hard on making this series and doing word-to-word translation and providing us with context with regards to cultural references (and as a result, awarding us with these sugary tidbits) makes me love it more. You're beautiful and I love your outfit and your accent as well. Thank you so much for putting in all your hard work in making this series. Stay blessed and take care!
I was really satisfied watching the drama even wondering how they passed the censorship with all the flirting going around. And now you are telling me the actual lines spoken are even more flirtatious than the dubbing!!
Hell yes, this is what I've been looked for! The real, uncensored lines! :D Thank you so much! :D I'm kinda loving it that the production sort of walked around the censorhip by having the actors recite the real lines, but then dubbing it over with fake ones...it's almost like easter eggs or some super treat for us now to know that, hell yes, it is there, just hidden XD They did veeeery well, by letting the actors speak true :D
honestly I wanna thank you so much for making these videos, we really appreciate it. Without you we international fans would have no idea about what they were actually speaking and the meaning behind all those scenes! ❤
Thank you for sharing this! I had a huge smile on my face the entire time and didn't even realize it until the video was over. Loving all the WoH content!
Just discovered your channel, how magnetic you are! The speech, the ability to hold attention, the clear way of explaining - instant subscribe! And thank you for doing awesome job - chinese culture and language are fascinating ✨
I've been learning Chinese for three years but a lot of these lines, idioms and cultural references are still above my level. Thank you auntie for explaining so clearly! I will watch more of your videos in the future ❤
OMG :)) when they did the special international edition for The Untamed it was a good idea, could be that they can air an "international" edition with original lines and changed sub :)) it would be something :)
So it seems they actually used some of the original lines from the novel and got dubbed to pass censorship! It's so helpful having someone explaining it in so much deatil, THANK YOU!!!
Yes ep.12 was so beautifully executed, seeing Ah Xu also smile tenderly and openly at WKX..and that long smile from both in silence add more heartthrob in mine❤️❤️❤️
Omg I have been waiting for this video! I’ve been in a chinese drama slump for some time and thanks to your video, I am over it. Absolutely addicted to this drama. Thank you!
Just came to say that I literally watch AvenueX videos before I write book/drama essays or reviews for school, her knowledge is so DSKJF BIG BRAIN WE LOVE YOU QUEEN
It's not shocking at all though, I mean WKX is soo.....pretty, probably prettier than the girls at the brothels. I personally would take that as a compliment because to be able to be bought by a brothel you have to be good-looking of some sort. So basically it's like being called pretty or handsome. I know ZZS would NEVER sell WKX to a brothel. Yeah, that's all I have to say.✌️ Peace
this is very informative for us international fans also makes the drama experience a hundred times more immersive with that sly mouth of wkx. As much as I like to watch the whole video I had to pause at 10:01 because I watch the drama on youtube, the uploads are only up till ep 10 (as of writing this comment) so I'll be coming back to complete the video as the eps are out. Thank You!!!
Thank you so much for the video. If I was amazed for how they passed the censorship with all their flirting and behavior, I'm even more amazed now. I love Youku.
Can I just say you're doing a fantastic job at teaching Chinese here :D As a foreign learner this helped me tremendously! Especially the reference with the idioms and poetry meaning :) I also really really like how you actually speak Chinese. There are a few actors that I can understand very clearly, Zhu Yilong is by far the clearest in my head and I also understand your voice clearly, it just made me happy :D
i get why this drama still can make people get the romance vibe or sexual tension (idk how to describe this but i really get this kind of feeling) eventhough it's "bromance", cause the actors themselves build their character's feeling with the real script of loveline.
No matter how much the censors try to twist all the spicy moments, I still can't take them only as friends. Cao Weinin's comparison of Kexin and Zishu with a sword and scabbard alone already speaks of them as a couple in love, destined for each other once and for life. Thanks for the clarification, it's nice to learn even more delicious details about your favorite dorama and get a closer look at Chinese culture. For us foreign viewers, this is very important.
Thank you for making this video! While watching I almost went up to get one of my fans to hide my face behind even though no one is around to see me blush.
I KNOW IT! Haa when ZZH took the pipe from WKX I was holding my breath like “Wow indirect kiss huh? Blowing a pipe belong to someone else..” I was right they actually were trying to do something with that scene... Also I’m so happy the drama is getting so much love! Honestly I was not really looking forward to watch this drama but boiii I’ve been so into it lately because I just could feel that they’re trying their very best to not change the mood of the story and respect the original novel. I’m so happy! Priest really deserves this level of respect.
Hearing you speak the actual lines so sweetly and flirtatiously makes my heart flutter, I thought I would be Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu saying things sweetly to eachother that would make me blush but it turned out it was you 😳💗
I freaking love this scriptwriter too & I love you too! Haha...thank you for sharing your emotions while reenacting those delicious lines! It was a joy to listen to! Haha...this show gives me pure joy, I love it so much! Can't wait for your explanations on the flirtatious poetry!
And now my parents are wondering why I'm looking at my screen with a constipated look in my face Eyyy guys we should bombard Netflix with request to pick up this drama so even if China takes it down we will still have it.... internationally at least.
Thank you so much for this video! I just finished watching all the English subtitle episodes and was going through withdrawal. Your video made my day. Many thanks!
Hello...I am so thankful for the literary knowledge you have shared with your subscribers. So concise and clear and so beautifully and clearly explained.I have a lot to say, unfortunately my mind/thoughts work faster than my writing.Word of Honor opened my nostalgic feelings of relationships and love that is not really in the open for everyone to know and feel what's real or reel. The looks, the simple touches, the firtations of two individuals who has distinct differences who are acting opposite of who and what they reallly are in real life is something to behold.Kudos to two people who has given everything in portraying their roles that makes it so hard to go back and it takes a lot of time to let go.
This was wonderful. Thank you. Very interesting! And a fun way to study. There are so many poetry references I wish I understood. I cant wait to see your video on that.
I love the script-writer as well. Thank you for this video. I have to say that your Chinese spoken voice is truly beautiful. I can listen to it all day :).
Thanks for putting this all together and explaining the lines. It's crazy how observant people are at spotting these dubbing changes (unless it's really obvious). Sometimes I don't even notice for English shows/movies.
thank you so much for taking your time to do this! these really make more sense, especially "ren ding." that scene by the lake was so lovely but i really got confused by that line, too. i would love to watch more of this again for later episodes. thanks so much! ah, this drama is really taking over my life.

13 months now
My thoughts on that flute blown by Zhou Xu, "ohhh, indirect kiss!" 😂
Still pure still pure 😏
Me too
same LOLLL
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO DO THIS FOR THE ENGLISH SPEAKING FANS TT__TT
THANK YOUUUUUU
I have already seen a few videos dubbed by fans with the real script that are really high quality and I hope one day these can be edited into the real episodes to create an unofficial "uncensored" version of the whole drama. I'd download that 😂
omg i want that too!! will you let me know where to find it?? XD
Where can I watch it?
Link or it's not real 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Don't be shy drop the link
Ff
I just love all this naughtiness... glorious exposé, ahh just so cheeky of the script writers. Simon Gong n Zhang Zhe Han in their elements shamelessly flirting ...
I m so thoroughly entertained. AX your eloquence in words n animated ways of explaining these dubbing over, done for sake of satisfying Chinese film censorship is much much appreciated. So much fun!
The production crew has got a hidden genius inside 😁
Such an enjoyable drama and to be able to know this sort of “Easter eggs” is so fun! Hopefully someone dubs the right lines later!
I like the way AvenueX fanning herself while explaining something serious lol
I enjoy the fact that the production team intentionally wanted the audience to figure out what was being said. Some of the dubbed parts had me so confused at some points
I swear, she’s the Empress Dowager in the kdramas/cdramas that paves the way for her grandchildren when it comes to love. She suits the role of being an esteemed prophet or something.
I'm rewatching WOH... I neither speak Mandarin, nor lip read, so I really appreciate this video! Thanks, Avenue X!
Omaigaaah.. thank you soooo much for this! 😍
1:30 episode 03
3:00 episode 04
4:23 episode 06
9:16 episode 08
10:04 episode 11
10:54 episode 12
Hell yes, this is what I've been looked for! The real, uncensored lines! :D
Thank you so much! :D
I'm kinda loving it that the production sort of walked around the censorhip by having the actors recite the real lines, but then dubbing it over with fake ones...it's almost like easter eggs or some super treat for us now to know that, hell yes, it is there, just hidden XD
They did veeeery well, by letting the actors speak true :D
honestly I wanna thank you so much for making these videos, we really appreciate it.
Super! So many of them
Oh how i wish i could join the chinese fandom and take part in all the inside jokes🤣 they must've been having all the fun
OMG :)) when they did the special international edition for The Untamed it was a good idea, could be that they can air an "international" edition with original lines and changed sub :)) it would be something :)
when i see "word of honor" i clicked. yeah, i'm so inlove with this drama 😭
Thank you so much for the subs, I've been seeing them lately in your videos AND thank you so much for this video
So it seems they actually used some of the original lines from the novel and got dubbed to pass censorship! It's so helpful having someone explaining it in so much deatil, THANK YOU!!!
You have a good control on Chinese and English, your translation is very smooth and easy to catch up thank you 🔥🔥
Idk why but this video is too satisfying to watch. I can listen her talking for all day long, no jokes. Subscribed.
Also, as someone who is learning Chinese, this channel has taken my attention.
Yes ep.12 was so beautifully executed, seeing Ah Xu also smile tenderly and openly at WKX..and that long smile from both in silence add more heartthrob in mine❤️❤️❤️
AvenueX, your video is just a piece of art! The color scheme, your voice, your explanation, everything is just perfect!
No way, ZZS actually said he'll sell WKX to a brothel. 😅
Welp. His verbal skills can probably make him to the top ranked without even doing the real business hahhahahahah
this is very informative for us international fans also makes the drama experience a hundred times more immersive with that sly mouth of wkx.
"Yeh you know, holding a pipe, shaped, thing, and blowing. Yeh that's as far as I can go in this video you know what I mean"
🤣🤣🤣 ehem ehem
Chinese is such a beautiful language. Thank you so much for the in depth detail of Chinese expressions.
Can I just say you're doing a fantastic job at teaching Chinese here :D
As a foreign learner this helped me tremendously! Especially the reference with the idioms and poetry meaning :)
I also really really like how you actually speak Chinese.
There are a few actors that I can understand very clearly, Zhu Yilong is by far the clearest in my head and I also understand your voice clearly, it just made me happy :D
6:26 shame it got changed. Cause I need that ZZ confidence abt his beauty XD
Yesss agreed
This kind of content makes me happy. The effort the crew puts into something for the fans.
i get why this drama still can make people get the romance vibe or sexual tension (idk how to describe this but i really get this kind of feeling) eventhough it's "bromance", cause the actors themselves build their character's feeling with the real script of loveline.
Such a clever way to use dubs lol And I'm really impressed by the fans... how are there so many people who can lip read ^^'
I KNOW IT! Haa when ZZH took the pipe from WKX I was holding my breath like “Wow indirect kiss huh? Blowing a pipe belong to someone else..”
I was right they actually were trying to do something with that scene...
Hearing you speak the actual lines so sweetly and flirtatiously makes my heart flutter, I thought I would be Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu saying things sweetly to eachother that would make me blush but it turned out it was you 😳💗
I've never seen you having so much fun with your reviews. Thanks for making it so enjoyable!
I freaking love this scriptwriter too & I love you too! Haha...thank you for sharing your emotions while reenacting those delicious lines! It was a joy to listen to! Haha...this show gives me pure joy, I love it so much! Can't wait for your explanations on the flirtatious poetry!
And now my parents are wondering why I'm looking at my screen with a constipated look in my face
Eyyy guys we should bombard Netflix with request to pick up this drama so even if China takes it down we will still have it.... internationally at least.
Don’t worry, china won’t take it down as this drama is at the top of the trending view
I just saw this drama on Amazon Prime! Only the first 11 episodes though...
It is on Netflix now!! ❤️❤️
Thank you so much for this video! I just finished watching all the English subtitle episodes and was going through withdrawal. Your video made my day. Many thanks!
Ooh AvenueX I love the way you say those lines, even without the translation your intonation sends shivers down my back 😊
I pretty much know all the lines you mentioned already but this line 12:04 just made the already legendary episode 12 even better, omfg!!!
I’m smiling stupidly at the train station 😩😩😩
Thank you, AvenueX, so very much for helping us non-chinese speakers see the extra depths in series like this.
thanks to explain it for international fans, actually we really dont know about it,this drama really good.
Yesss I fell for them and the drama when they were calling out each other's names 3x and just smiling blissfully... I was hooked!!!
I can't wait for more! This is amazing!!! Thanks for sharing.
I love the script-writer as well. Thank you for this video. I have to say that your Chinese spoken voice is truly beautiful. I can listen to it all day :).
A'ight lemme just mention how she looks super adorable here X3 I love this lip reading thing that's going on honestly XDDD this is so much fun
Omg, thank you for these gems. Indeed, many of the lines sounded out of place or irrelevant, so it's good to know what was going on 'in reality':)))) Amazing series
Don’t we all love Avenue X and WOH script writer 😍😍😍😍
Even if your voice doesn’t match the characters, I actually think it would be really cool to see you dub these scenes
I love your outfit and hair (and fan!) and I'm so happy you're going to cover more on this drama!
