I sprayed my frame in 2layers of clear color and it looks so amazing the clear aluminium frame look is so cool
1995 Cannondale bikes were so bombproof, proof of excellent workmanship is the fact that these frames are still riding strong nearly 30 years later
In the US, most auto parts stores have cans of "Paint remover for Aluminum painted surfaces" aka Airplane paint remover.
Using Airplane paint remover, you can wash it off or use a rag. No scraping.

Thanks for the inspiration, need to do this to a 94 Klein Quantum Z I just picked up cheap. It's in great shape other than the paint bubbled on the top tube and under the bottle cages cause the PO never wiped off his sweat.

misterK this guys dumb for 1 hes in an enclosed room using very powerful aircraft grade paint remover with no mask or eye protection, and he scrapes the paint off with metal, you use plastic, sand paper or a sponge

I just repainted an old steel bike, and it took me 10 days to finish. The lesson learned was: make sure the primer, paint, and coat are dried on between the layers. Otherwise we could get a mushy or soft paint jobs even with the hardener. So a thin layer is better. As a beginner, it’s very tempting to put thicker paints especially on light colors such as candy tone.
I don't know whether to attribute it to weak stripper from Home Depot (it was the strongest stuff they had), or the tenacity of the paint on my bike... but it took me 16 total hours of stripper, steel wool, and a brass wheel to get the hideous orange paint off of my GT Distortion. Good video, though. Brings back some memories of that very time-consuming project.

hia..if you fancy a project and a half, I have a Cannondale DeltaV 700 that's got some MAJOR problems.
Firstly, I had to get rid of the Headshocks as I bent them on a downhill...in the snow...when my front wheel found a fox hole.
secondly, the welds are failing on the rear seat stay bulkhead...the welds are failing because I dented the underside and bent the chainstay...I bent the chainstay hopping about doing trials while fitted with a daves-chain-device (DCD).
As the Chainstay is bent, the rear triangle is all out of alignment and I can't centre the wheel.
it's either someone takes on an epic repair job or I have to strip it and take it to the tip :(

Do this outside in a well ventilated area, wear a respirator, and use a plastic or plexiglass scraper!!

My late Uncle emigrated to America. He brags he’s one of the best car painter in Georgia. Which is true as I’ve seen pictures of his works and cars he painted featured in calendars. Unfortunately he doesn’t believe in wearing PPE masks. Yeah ‘Murica masks are for wussies! One day he just dropped dead on the floor at work. 911 was called and they were able to revive him from cardiac arrest. But he never woke up in a coma at the hospital.

was the original paint on that bike baked on ? i used a paint remover from auto parts store its safe for metal but not working so easy like your spray did. its barely coming out at all ..my bike frame paint was baked on
i torched the powder painted aluminum frame off sucessfully yesturday !!!! : ) .. frame is good still. just remember do notttt stay in one place too too long that could start melt hole in your frame or move around the welding possibly ..

+cloudchaser07 Yes, I used very fine sand paper at the end. Somehow I was able to get to all the corners with the sand paper on the sponge.

Most people upgrade bikes etc so it would need doing either way not many people keep stock paint or parts on bikes if they are serious about mtb as a sport

I'm having a hard time believing how easy paint stripping is here on most videos. I spent a week stripping and sanding because my stripper
either dries out in 2 minutes and hardens the paint again or turns 10% of the coat into a thick muck. Are there different kinds difficulties of paint and different tiers of paint stripper?
Yes and yes, there are different types of paints, materials being painted on, and also strengths for different purposes

Someone please help cause i can’t find any info on this, looking to respray my full suspension bike frame, however im unsure whether i’d get away with leaving the bearings in and masking them or if it’s best to remove them, im sure its probably the latter but would it possibly ruin the bike if it was to be masked and sprayed with the bearings still in it? A cheaper way is to brush the frame with standard paint stripper , eg Nitromorse and then cover it up with cling film (ceranowrap?) to concentrate the chemical fumes over night.
nitromors today does not work at all. i have bought it last week to do my bicycle frame and it didnt even crack. complete rubish of a product. maybe 10 years ago the ingridients in the UK were different. today is rubbish. im looking for a good product as we speak

Steel wool can scratch the surface of the metal you are trying to paint.

I'm thinking about stripping the paint from my aluminum frame and leaving it bare. I like the look. You mentioned the oxidation from air on the bare aluminum. Will that just be an appearance issue, or is there a structural reason to repaint the frame? Thanks!
