I understand why he quits and loads so much, and why it's allowed in the speedruns... but boy does it kill a lot of the enjoyment I wanted from this. Clearly he has tons of skill, but when he can just quit and load as a bunch of enemies are chasing him to reset their aggro or make massive jumps to skip half the level and quit to stop it from killing him... the runner doesn't have to show off as much skill and it kind of feels like I'm robbed of some of the entertainment value. Is there a no-quit category for this game? Perhaps I'd enjoy watching that type of run more.
+Megaseven Yeah many runners actually dislike this mechanic as it takes away fun and momentum. Sadly the timesave is like 2-3 minutes in total if done right so you can't just ignore it :\
+Brennus LeGaulois Then it should be for the reasons I mentioned. (Aggro reset & negating fall damage). This run would be VERY different if he was unable to quit every 2 minutes.
I spent so much time just rolling into walls looking for secrets, killing every enemy and searching every cave so I haven't missed much but it's still interesting to see how much I didn't have to do.
fuck yeah dist! my twitch name is Racistjellyfish. I'll be turning 18 tomorrow and the day after I open my checking account. first thing I'm gonna do is subscribe for the first time and donate. congrats on the insane run! I've been watching you for at least a year or two now and you're my favorite streamer. keep it up
Besides the awesome gameplay skill, i have a couple of queries Does every run of Dark Souls 3.have the timer stop at load times and why is the clock being wound back a half to a full second on each quit and reload?
nice run as always but question if after the princes fight what if u didnt go to the shrine to level endurance wouldnt that save time i mean are the stamina points that important
+keyokoy mcgee I'm not sure how close he's getting, but if you notice during the Lord of Cinders fight, there are several moments where he is out of stamina. Getting that extra hit in can mean a stagger, or the extra tick from the bleed. It often surprises me how a few points of stamina make me so much stronger in the game.
+Jantteri Kanahäkki The sword heals 2 hp every 2 seconds, but you get 2 hp instantly every time you equip it. So he does it because it can be done while running unlike drinking Estus, and he wants to be fully healed to get the damage bonus of his ring.
+Sean Connell Shield of Want gives more souls on kill. He wants to use Grass Crest Shield for stamina recovery but since bosses drop souls a few seconds after dying, you have time to switch.
Think most of them will but they dont use that sword till later because it needs to be leveled up first with twinkling titanite. Before that I think its the astora's straight sword raw they use because early on it does more damage.
Frank Drebin What alpacaa said dumbass, I already watched the whole video mostly I just must have skipped gundyr I only watched the boss fights so think before you speak scrub.
Publings there are a lot of bosses not on the split. Theres a huge time gap between lord of cinder and the previous boss, but i guess someone "with a brain" couldnt figure that out. Instead of questioning the legitimacy of the video, how about just skipping ahead.
+badjazy speedrunning this game uses in-game time and the game doesn't count the time he used to quit out into the IGT. When he opens big doors in which the opening animation can take close to 10 seconds quitting out can be used and that can save some serious time.
badjazy ahm nope. Lobos is not "speedrunning" it for the WR and if you have seen ANY speedrunner that is holding a good time they are all doing it, because well it saves time. Makes sense right ?
+Isaac Wangen which is cheating IMO but whatever. If quitting and reloading saves time then it should 100% have to count the time you spent loading back in. But that's just my opinion. Still amazing and I couldn't do anything like it.
+Owen Jonkers it's in game time.everyone has the ability to do it, so how is it cheating? Basically the only difference would be increased time on every speed runners times by a few seconds if they couldn't quit out....what does it matter
+ItsRayful As you said yourself, quitting out makes the timer stop. But it also skips the animation of door opening scenes and more which means quitting out alone for Cutscenes will make you save ~3minutes. Other quitouts in the run let you survive falls where you should have died. Another use is to reset enemies who follow you in order to survive, remember in the worst case you lose 5-10 minutes on death. There is one true point tho for SOME people because for slower computers you actually might lose time if you need to reload
+Owen Jonkers It isn't cheating. Well the term cheating is heavily discussed in the speedrunning community. Using bugs and glitches for example is not cheating so using quitouts in order to cancel the animations is legit. Also the Speedrunning community for Dark Souls agreed on stopping the INGAME time (you can press start and watch how much time you spent on that savefile for that character) and not the real time.
+Faust Kellhound He stops the counters whenever the game stops counting time spent played. Speedruns are usually measured on In Game Time (IGT) rather than actual time, so whenever he save/quit/resets, the timer is paused because no time is passing in the game.
If you speedrun a game you're gonna do what's the fastest. In this case it's quitting out and restarting instead of waiting for doors to open for example. That's not cheating in any way, you apperently just don't know how speedrunning works.
+Danny Tomlinson They use in game time as the barometer for run validity. As you can see from the video, the time from his split is actually about a second later, but when he loads up the character the characters final time is the one shown. Using in game time means the s/l (save/load) trick saves time. The time stated is not that of an RTA (real time attack), though it should be noted that currently whoever has the record for in game time likely has the record for RTA as well. The community typically agrees on a particular method of timing, and then that becomes the default method. As long as everyone is using the same method it's all even. Its possible we'll see a different path in the future that doesn't use s/l, and he'll claim the record for RTA. This is the nature of speed-running and how you end up with games that have 7+ categories
I understand why he quits and loads so much, and why it's allowed in the speedruns... but boy does it kill a lot of the enjoyment I wanted from this. +Megaseven yeah i hope there will be a no quit category cause this is nice but doesnt feels as good as other ds speed runs
+Megaseven totally agree
+Megaseven This is not a category but a way to count the time. If you count the in game time (IGT) or the real time
+Brennus LeGaulois Then it should be for the reasons I mentioned. (Aggro reset & negating fall damage). This run would be VERY different if he was unable to quit every 2 minutes.
Best osiris fight Ive seen from you yet. Last fight was pretty dang close at the end to .
Great Run as usual
I love watching these runs after I finished the game. I missed so much....
I spent so much time just rolling into walls looking for secrets, killing every enemy and searching every cave so I haven't missed much but it's still interesting to see how much I didn't have to do.
So much butt clenching during the cinder fight
incredible, that lothric fight was ridiculous
The almost choke at the end had me clenched so hard.
That last fight! Shit that was close. gg man
Amazing run!
I watched this live , loved it
fuck yeah dist! my twitch name is Racistjellyfish. +cowdude101101 herpy burfday to ya!
Happy Name Day!
+chickenfinger7829 +pontarn00 thanks you guys!
Besides the awesome gameplay skill, i have a couple of queries
Does every run of Dark Souls 3.have the timer stop at load times and why is the clock being wound back a half to a full second on each quit and reload?
THAT LAST FIGHT HOLY CRAP I ALMOST SHIT MY PANTS
nice run as always but question if after the princes fight what if u didnt go to the shrine to level endurance wouldnt that save time i mean are the stamina points that important
May be a stupid question, but why doesn't he dump a few points into Endurance? The benefits might be minimal, but doesn't every second count?
How come you can outrun the arrow barrage in smouldering lake? Any time I try that they hit me with perfect accuracy...
+Xari if you notice after each arrow hits he stops running for a second then starts again. think that is why they miss
does the ps4 do something to the IGT? it takes me 18 minutes to kill abyss watchers and i cant do it any faster.
on any% btw
not gonna lie, I'm attempting to break your record, any tips besides what's in the video?
Personally I did 2h30 in NG+4 I think I can be a bit faster maybe 20 min max but that's all. I do not know how to finish it faster for my NG+5.
That Pontiff fight tho...
Do you use Anri's or Astora's straight sword?
+Sherwin Mass He was using Anri. Barbed for any % if ur curious ^_^
+TheXForgottenXSavior Then why does he need Astora's at 4:40?
+Sherwin Mass anri is late game
+Sherwin Mass Astora is better early, Anris when its reinforced enough and Luck skilled enough since it scales with it
Does someone want to explain to me why he sometimes constantly equips&unequips his sword?
+Jantteri Kanahäkki He mentions @1:08:15 that he does it to heal himself. You want to be full health because of Lloyd's Sword ring giving more damage
+Jantteri Kanahäkki The sword heals 2 hp every 2 seconds, but you get 2 hp instantly every time you equip it. So he does it because it can be done while running unlike drinking Estus, and he wants to be fully healed to get the damage bonus of his ring.
How do you do that roll? Looks more like a hop/jump? :D
At what point??
+dirint Dagger weapon skill
Its a cool way of getting past the swamp fast. Its the Weapon ability for the dagger he's using.
anri or Astora which is better?
why does he go to main menu sometimes? I just followed him now on twitch to watch this live
+Alejandro Alonso Because it saves in-game time to go in the menu instead of passing through doors
+Meuric thanks for the respond :)
also, if u dont mind a last question hehe why does he upgrade 'luck' that much?
+Alejandro Alonso He's using Anri's sword which scales on luck
if he goes to game menu the time counter stops so if he opens a door he goes to the menu so the door is open without losing time
Can anyone explain to me why he was afraid of the chain guy?
+Yellow Skin He's got a pretty BS move where he can hit you through a wall or off the ladder. He can one shot you basically, killing the run
+KonshinBaka oh OK thanks!
+KonshinBaka
I hate how he hits us not only when he throws the axe, but also when he pulls it back.
you make it look so easy..
that 1 jealous guy..
why does he always switch his shield after beating a boss??
+Sean Connell Shield of Want gives more souls on kill. He wants to use Grass Crest Shield for stamina recovery but since bosses drop souls a few seconds after dying, you have time to switch.
How was he doing so much dmg to bosses? Bleeding right or what?
+watertower500 :D Using weapon enhancers like Carthus Rouge or Gold something.
+watertower500 :D Anri's sword leveled with luck does a lot of bleed damage. As well as you can buff for more and take off big lumps of health.
+1980Cog How many bosses are affected by bleed?
Think most of them will but they dont use that sword till later because it needs to be leveled up first with twinkling titanite. Before that I think its the astora's straight sword raw they use because early on it does more damage.
Daamn nice dist
Badass.
what's the point with playing in low quality ?
+Blade Dancer What do you mean?
+Blade Dancer Increased performance, less input lag, better controls.
Amazing
For the next speedrun get to NG+7 and beat all bosses
If its all bosses wheres champion gundyr?
+Publings 1:13:00 i suggest watching the video BEFORE making a comment....
+Publings how about watching the video
Exactly, at least someone has a brain on this thread. Thanks alpacaa.
Frank Drebin What alpacaa said dumbass, I already watched the whole video mostly I just must have skipped gundyr I only watched the boss fights so think before you speak scrub.

Is this pc or xbox?
jk just found out
gg!
I think quitting and entering the game should have been counted in the time.
+badjazy you know that makes no sense at all ?
Unless you are a speed runner, then it does.
+badjazy speedrunning this game uses in-game time and the game doesn't count the time he used to quit out into the IGT. When he opens big doors in which the opening animation can take close to 10 seconds quitting out can be used and that can save some serious time.
Endless Rock ! The reason I said that is because I see so many other speedrunners including that time in. Lobos is one of them.
badjazy ahm nope. Lobos is not "speedrunning" it for the WR and if you have seen ANY speedrunner that is holding a good time they are all doing it, because well it saves time. Makes sense right ?
i just want to get Anri`s sword fast and the only videos on how to get is from the great speed runners, lol;)
Is this wr?
+Дима Жуйков yes
+mike sadaw By about a minute
pretty sure that quitting all the time isn't even faster, you're just doing it to stop the timer ^^
+ItsRayful which makes it faster............
+Isaac Wangen which is cheating IMO but whatever. If quitting and reloading saves time then it should 100% have to count the time you spent loading back in.
But that's just my opinion. Still amazing and I couldn't do anything like it.

What why does he keep stop the counters. that's cheating no matter how you put it
+Faust Kellhound He stops the counters whenever the game stops counting time spent played. Speedruns are usually measured on In Game Time (IGT) rather than actual time, so whenever he save/quit/resets, the timer is paused because no time is passing in the game.
+Zachary Edwards I see that. what I'm trying to say if a speed run is done should you not cut pieces of the game out and do it in one solid piece.
If you speedrun a game you're gonna do what's the fastest. In this case it's quitting out and restarting instead of waiting for doors to open for example. That's not cheating in any way, you apperently just don't know how speedrunning works.
nicee !
Hmmm... How do you make Nameless King your bitch like that..?
git gud
DuvalTruck I'm pretty gud, thank you very much. But not quite speedrun world record kind of gud. You know what I mean?
he cheats which the live streams!
+Nania Business ooook. I got banned why i questioned it by him, and sooo hes either not playing legit or cheating.
+Danny Tomlinson or he just doesn't want dumbasses accusing him of stupid things.
+Danny Tomlinson They use in game time as the barometer for run validity.
