One of the deepest emotional journeys I've been on in this channel. Stunning in every aspect. Pure love for this song about love... Thanks for watching! 🥰
It is criminal that Greg Lake was never mentioned in best vocalist lists. Another one that you have to hear is the song "Trilogy" the combination of Greg's voice and Keith Emerson's piano is breathtaking.
That's the beautiful thing about these 70s Prog bands. It was like each one of them were trying to outdo the other in creating ethereal, celestial music. Such an explosion of creativity in the 70s. There will never be another decade like it ever again.
I was just watching a video of ELP's Black Moon, one of their last albums, and a gem! Then right after I came across this! Good choice. 'Lend your love to me tonight' is another cool one with great vocals by Greg.
Saw Greg with Emerson and Palmer before they broke big. Stood right in front of him. His voice was immaculate. As you say strong or gentle whichever required. An epic trio. I will never forget them. X
Superb! Thank you, Brandon. [NB: Greg Lake previously stated in an interview that the song "Closer To Believing" was one of his favorites although it was very difficult to write, compose and orchestrate. I quote him: "In fact, it took us almost three months without the slightest interruption [...]. For three months, every day we worked on the song. It was sometimes painful. But we were aware that that was worth such an investment on our part. We were very proud of the end result.”]
Greg Lake and Pete Sinfield (both ex- King Crimson) collaborated on many songs and this was considered their most difficult. It really is outside of what ELP would play yet to me it is a masterpiece of talking about the love of oneself, others and the connection with life itself.....don't let the opportunity of living slip away.....embrace it. Very poignant and thought provoking and I always love the angelic choir blended with Greg's voice and orchestra. Thank you Brandon.
Beautiful song! Haven’t listened to this one in a while… I remember when I first got this album. I know you’ve already reacted to my favorite from this album, “Pirates”, but you’ll need to give a reaction to “Fanfare For The Common Man”.
I guess a "cover" doesn't excite me as much. But since I haven't heard the original in close to 30 years and probably don't remember it, it would basically be new for me!
I did say that this was more lovely than C’est la vie. The oboes really do make this more moving, not mention Peter Sinfield’s involvement in the lyrics. Greg’s voice is perfect!
Beautifully written and performed, perhaps a 'change-up' and chorus might have made it a HUGE song? Must confess that I used to identify ELP with the OTT random keyboard work I didn't like, so I've probably ignored them too much.
Brother great reaction! Greg’s voice is fkn money. This song is an amazing composition. Yes, ELP & Genesis we’re the 3 top prog supergroups of the 70’s. I’ve listened to emall there albums 1000’s of times. I’m not kidding. Know every nite. Pure bliss. Sound track of my life. Rock on Yo!!!
Wow you have such a skill in your summation of this song beautifully described and you captured how I felt when I first heard this song ethereal reflective and introspective as you said. Perfect thank you
Hello. Thank you so much for the compliment! Glad you love it as much as me (or more since you've been with it much longer) You're very welcome and thanks so much for watching 🙂
Hey Brandon... I recommend a beautiful companion piece to "Closer To Believing" which is Harry Nilsson's "All I Think About Is You", also from 1977. Similarly sumptuous, mystical, yearning, with celestial choir. A "Heaven Level" song too!
@@retroreactions.... Hey, dude, it's way past time for you to react to "So Long Ago, So Clear" by Vangelis (Featuring Jon Anderson). If you thought this ELP song was beautiful, "So Long Ago..." will make you levitate!
Beautiful reaction Brandon, so glad you experienced this magnificent piece. And you're so right, masterpieces like these we can re-visit all our lives, we are so lucky for this privilege. I think I may have mentioned previously, two others on this side: "Lend your love to me tonight" and "Hallowed by thy name" are also wonderful pieces and are highly recommended. Another lovely song from Greg is on the "Black Moon" album "Footprints in the snow" where his vocal range had shifted lower but still retained it's beautiful richness. All the best!
Having bought this album when it came out, I haven't heard this for many years since I recorded the 'progsnob' stuff and abandoned the pretty saccharine Lake stuff, but I recall this end track was my fav of Greg's side. Well reviewed!
Man, you are spoiling us today. What a beautiful track I had totally forgotten about. Wonderful. Happy Sunday to you Brandon. You have made mine so good. All the best. Dave✅✅
Haha, I love my double days, but SO much work. If one person loves the video then it's all worth it! Glad you love this song. Happy Sunday! See ya soon....
ELP are trip. As a trio, their musicianship is off the hook and can be compared to Rush in that regard. Check out "The Barbarian," " Knife Edge," and "Still You Turn Me On."
This album by them was a bit of a mixed bag. One side by Emerson, a side of Lake, a side of Palmer, and side 4 ELP together. Lake's side is magnificent.
One of the deepest emotional journeys I've been on in this channel. Stunning in every aspect. Pure love for this song about love... Thanks for watching! 🥰
Greg Lakes angelic but also powerful vocals shine here!
The Most underrated Band of all time🤔👍❤️✌🏼
They always blow me away, and so much more to discover! Thanks
EVERYTH*ING ELP is sheer magic :)
I'd have to agree! Thanks for watching and being first on this one! 🥇
Came to hear Greg(RIP) Lake sing, wonderful song
Good reason to stop by, he's brilliant!
It is criminal that Greg Lake was never mentioned in best vocalist lists. Another one that you have to hear is the song "Trilogy" the combination of Greg's voice and Keith Emerson's piano is breathtaking.
Yea, I agree, now that I'm familiar with his voice. Oh I have already reacted to Trilogy. Let me know if you'd like the link!
Oh my goodness, it's like music you would hear in Heaven. ☁⛅👼☁💙🎶🎶
I think so too!! What a range this band has 🥰
Hi Renee. What a brilliant way to describe this track. Just superb. Well done✅✅
Perhaps my new ELP favorite??
This was LOVELY!!! First time listening!!
Great!! Hard to describe just how lovely it is! Thanks as always..
That's the beautiful thing about these 70s Prog bands. It was like each one of them were trying to outdo the other in creating ethereal, celestial music. Such an explosion of creativity in the 70s. There will never be another decade like it ever again.
That's for sure!

Hello! Thank you algorithm hehe....Was such a joy to experience this one. I will add LYLTMT to the list, thanks!
This is a beautiful track. Greg’s voice adds extra magic. Great way to end the day. Thanks! Brandon!
Agree! Greg's voice gets me in these ballads every time! You're welcome and thank YOU.. 🙂
I’ve never heard this before. What an absolutely beautiful song! Thank you for posting this.
Oh sweet! One that's new for you and that you love... I'm happy! 😁
Saw Greg with Emerson and Palmer before they broke big. Stood right in front of him. His voice was immaculate. As you say strong or gentle whichever required. An epic trio. I will never forget them. X
words are not needed this is a song about the feeling
ELP ....pure bliss!! ❤️🎶
Perfect noun!! I bet they have even more like this!!
Gregs voice is beautiful i bought this album vinyl back in the day , and have loved ELP ever since
Yes, he always manages to touch my soul when he sings! Thanks for watching!
Overwhelming is right. Thank you for showcasing this amazing song.
Hi pumpkin, this is beautiful I've never heard it before. What album is this from?😊
You're welcome, was a great pleasure to discover it!! Thanks
Hello! Glad you loved it. It's from Works Volume 1, 1977..
Brings back memories of the love upon whom this song was then referring.
What a surprise, thanks!
Ahh, the time traveling power of music....Thanks for tuning in!
Superb! Thank you, Brandon.

You're welcome my friend... 3 months wow! It shows though.. wish I could shake his hand....
Wow. What a beautiful song❤️Thank you for sharing❤️
Agree (as you saw). Thanks for listening! 💙

Hi there! Great review there! Just a perfect song to me... You're welcome and thanks for tuning in!
Beautiful song! Haven’t listened to this one in a while… I remember when I first got this album. I know you’ve already reacted to my favorite from this album, “Pirates”, but you’ll need to give a reaction to “Fanfare For The Common Man”.
Added another vote... remind me, is Fanfare someone else's song though? I suspect so...
Yes…. “Fanfare..” is an instrumental piece by Aaron Copland back in 1942. This was adapted by Keith Emerson for ELP to perform.
I guess a "cover" doesn't excite me as much. But since I haven't heard the original in close to 30 years and probably don't remember it, it would basically be new for me!

Thank you! Haha, lucky! I have a LONG way to go with ELP, but excited for the journey!! Thanks so much for watching 😎
...That... voice... Astounding.
YES! Chill/tear inducing....
This was from Works Vol 1, each member had a solo side and one group side. Greg's songs were vvery good. Another good one is Cest 'lvie
This song used to help put my 2 year old niece to sleep (this and Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper).
Nice!! Thanks so much for watching!
Hi. What a track you have mentioned there - Alice Cooper and only women bleed. Do you remember Julie Covingtons version at all?
Wow you have such a skill in your summation of this song beautifully described and you captured how I felt when I first heard this song ethereal reflective and introspective as you said. Perfect thank you

Hi there. I can add that one to my list. Thanks!
This by far is my alltime favorite song. It has followed me and has had more meaning in each passing decade. Thank you for doing a reaction!!
Spot on reaction to an almost otherworldly melody 👌
Thank you! Love it so much. Thanks for stopping by for this one!
Greg Lake. The voice
YESSSSSSS.....thanks
My wife never liked ELP... until I played this song for her.
Nice, glad she came around to them with this song. A perfect song...gives me the same deep feelings as "From the Beginning". Thanks for watching!
@@retroreactions.... Hey, dude, it's way past time for you to react to "So Long Ago, So Clear" by Vangelis (Featuring Jon Anderson). If you thought this ELP song was beautiful, "So Long Ago..." will make you levitate!
Levitate wow! It suspect it may also have me blubbering again haha... I added another vote and that song has the most votes for Vangelis on my list!
We miss you, Greg.
Thank goodness he will live on forever through his beautiful music....
I forgot all about this Song. How good it is!
Beautiful reaction Brandon, so glad you experienced this magnificent piece. And you're so right, masterpieces like these we can re-visit all our lives, we are so lucky for this privilege. Told you! This took 7 weeks to produce!
