Town and tourists, turn as they hear the squeak and think..."An just Gabriel on his travels again".....The island beginning to reveal it's secrets and history.....
Can’t get enough of these Greek islands! So much to explore, amazing history, great views, great food, great weather! Seems to be Gabe’s specialty, along with India!
Not sure if you've been to NAXOS before but if not, take the ferry to NAXOS! It's a very large and amazing island. Unlike many other Cycladic islands, NAXOS boasts a large agricultural yield which helps explain why so many Greeks still live there. When the economic crash hit Greece, I remember a lot of Athenians went back to their villages, esp. the ones, like NAXOS, which are self-sustaining. This means that you will get to enjoy very fresh food of the highest quality.
Gabe about the church in ruins you showed us is called .The Prophet Elijah’s Church a Byzantine church.........Nowadays you can still see the ruins, the altar and the icon of the Prophet with the lamp still burning, tended by the faithful. Every year on July 20, the devout still congregate at the shrine and hold Vespers. Soft drinks are offered to those who attend. The plot where the shrine stands is private property but entrance is free.
Fun fact - there are 5 different ways of wishing someone a good morning, good afternoon and good night. Kali mera = good morning (valid until about 12 noon). Then we get Kalo mesimeri (good afternoon, 12 - about 4pm); then we get kali spera (from 4 to about 8 pm). After that, it tends to shift to kalo vrady (8 to whenever). Finally, Kali nychta (when you're heading home for the night).
Hey Gabriel, I think those run down little huts you encounter on you hikes are shepherd's summer huts in years gone by. I thank you for all your Greek videos. Take care my friend and safe travels
😂😂i laughed a lot in this video, thank God you got away from these...ferocious mechanical monsters !!! and enjoy your new necklace, beautiful indeed !✌💙
Hi Gabriel! I enjoy very much your exploration of Kato Koufonissi. I have been visiting there since 1987 and i ws there last June! It's a wonderful small island and one of my favourite ❤
Good morning Gabriel 🌞🍉!! So beautiful necklace !! There's a beautiful church on the opposite side from where you're in this video ⛪🌊with a lovely sunset 🌅 !
Hey Gabriel,... I love your videos and have many questions about Greece, Spain and other countries you have been to that my wife and will travel to, BUT the reason I'm writing this now is your squeaky brakes, they don't have to be squeaky! Just take a clean cloth with soap and water and wipe down the sides of your rims. Even a clean damp cloth will work. Then clean your brake pads well, (old tooth brush and tooth paste works well) and dry.them. That will probably do the trick. If the pads are old and too hard use a emery board or not too course sand paper and rough up the surface. Keep up the great work/vids...... cheers from a fellow SF Bay Area guy!
The green on your old coin makes it look like some copper content. I don’t think you’re supposed to wash old coins, but I also have no idea how you know what they are if you don’t! I’ve found a little treasure in Greece this year too. A golden ninja Lego man. Lol!
Hi Gabriel, it's hard to leave these islands the weather has been cooperating it can't be more ideal, and the smaller islands are even more attractive not crowded beautiful beaches more relaxing. There are still some more islands you want to check eventually.
Yeah, I really want to get up there. I've been to Thessaloniki, Meteora, Pella and climbed Mt. Olympus but haven't been to the northwest or northeast areas yet.
Hello Gabriel, I think a few years ago when you were biking on the greek islands you used to use as background music a lovely song sung by a female singer. Would be great to hear that again as you cycle along.
It sounds like your brakes are little tight there is an adjuster on the cable up by the lever you could try to loosen it up by turning it clockwise a little bit that might or might not work
Gabe thank you for sharing, I get to see the world as a real adventurer, it is greatly appreciated. When you let your beard grow for 7 months you can join ZZ Top, that is when you will be rokin. Happy safe trails!!!
Next time just clean the coin with lemon or lime. If the stain is too tough just add some baking powder to it and scrub with fresh lime. It’ll look as good as new!
You certainly like getting off the tourist trail and finding old ruins. You cannot say 'Ano Koufonissia'. You can say Ano Koufonissi or Kato Koufonissi. Koufonisia is plural and includes the whole archipelago which I think inlcudes Keros as well as Ano and Kato Koufonissi and Glaronissi.
Interesting open church, something very different. You could have a found an ancient coin or a 50 year old worthless drachma lol 😂 Going to miss those squeaky brakes..
Hi Gabiel weres the best place to buy a tent and a second hand bike in Athens ? I remember you did a video on it but i cant find it anymore. Just booked my flights and your vids were the inspiration for this adventure 😊
Here's that old vid: ruclips.net/video/JX-A7zBL_NA/видео.html Basically the area around Monastiraki Square is where you find the second hand shops and camping stores.
9:25 Regarding the church, looks like they just white-washed the stones from an older Christian church. Archeologists, at least the purists among the bunch, might not be too happy about it, but there are loads of such sites all over the Mediterranean so it's mostly gravy. Still the Prophet Elijah tends to be highly venerated in Greece and this church was dedicated to him as the icon clearly depicts. From 1 Kings 17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.
Wonderful adventures, hoping you're wearing sunscreen, the sun in Greece is potent and brutal... you have a lot of your skin exposed... enjoy your endless travels...
11:17 One more comment about the ugliness of pre-white-washed churches. Funny thing is that almost all the white marble ruins, including the Acropolis are gorgeous in their original state of white marble but had previously been decked out colorfully, sometimes garishly so.
So, from what you've seen of Ano Koufonisi you think that Crete, Rhodes, Myconos, Naxos, Paros, Corfu, Lefkada, zakinthos, Skiathos, Lesvos, Lemnos, Thasos, Milos.... are pretty much the same?
Curious what happened with the coin? Find out in Part 2: ruclips.net/video/MzE5_9CnD64/видео.html
Gabriel we are really exploring the world with you
We are really grateful for your efforts
Aha - a late afternoon view now too. Okay, thx 🌲😎🌲

Gabe - Do you film using the HDR function on your camera? Sadly no Rocksteady with the HDR function. Thanks!
Not sure about HDR, I film at 1080p, 60fps with the stabilization on. Without the stabilization it would be unwatchable.
Is that your bike squeaking?
