A little tip! I never throw away a sample size even when empty. I keep it in a certain place for empties so I can always go back and smell it again if I wanted to. You never know down the line if you will need or want a reminder.
Great tip! Thank you
I love that you talk normal and are not trying to be another superficial youtuber posing all the time or trying to be cutsey.
Really love you being you and just being natural ❤ Love your style! New subscriber!
Your videos are so, SO helpful. I really like the way you talk. The Q-tip tip is so good.
i had no idea essential oils could be toxic when burned! Your videos are SO HELPFUL youre amazing
Just getting into candle making because I thought it would be fun to do with my boys and they love it too. Anyways your excitement for what you do is inspiring. Thank you for loving your work and sharing what you've learned by experience.
You are the best!! This young lady always has the best DIY videos.
Your home must smell AMAZING!
I use a small ratio of essential oils in my candles and I really enjoy the scent and burn. I, highly, recommend that IF using essential oil, use about 1-3 percent and no more.
Hi Ashley, do you sell your candles or do you make them for personal use? I will be selling mine but so confused on the percentage that would be good for selling to customers. Thanks so much!
@@Shaunteetalkstv I sell them! I use about 1-3 percent and the rest of it is fragrance oil (9-7 percent)! So, a total of 10 percent with varying levels of essential oils.
@@ashleygreenn Thanks for getting back to me, Ashley! Have you ever tried using only essential oils? If so, how did it work out for you? And what percentage would you recommend using if I were to use essential oils alone? Thanks so much!
I recommend wooden Wick Co they offer scent packs for 40! I ordered from a few others to this was awesome.
Can you do a video on the legal steps you took to launch your candle business/etsy shop? I'm just starting out and I'm not sure if I should register as an LLC or sole proprietorship or get liability insurance. I know you're not an expert but I would love any advice you can give because this is all so confusing. I love your videos so much!
I’ve gotten a few requests for this, I’m still learning on how to do everything properly myself. But hopefully I’ll find a way to talk about it in a video without looking like I’m giving legal advice ❤️
theres a candle store near me and they offer oil samples they have like 15 brands and i think its like 15$ for a box of samples and its free for one
Whats the name of it
Hi I am super new to making candles and am also looking into this as a business . Thank you so much for all of your knowledge and your an inspiration. its stressful just starting out I had no idea how much it was gonna take . But grateful that you have been such a wealth of knowledge.
I’m so glad ☺️
Is there really a difference between fragrance oils for candles and perfume?
Thanks for all the good information . Love watching your videos. Where did you find the sign for you fragrance oils behind you?
Patricia Jones target :)
Thanks so much for your videos! I love your enthusiasm and energy! I have a lot of extra time (like everyone else) and I'm thinking about making candles with some masculine scents. I'd love to try the tobacco fragrance you recommended. I'm also thinking leather, campfire and new BMW. :) Scents are the key to so many memories! If you ever develop a Patreon channel, I'm all in.
Loving your videos. So helpful
Would love to your advice on taking professional looking pictures of your candles
Looking into making that video 🤗
Hi! First, I love your videos! Very informative!!! So right now I am in the testing phase of my candle making, I have a lot of mostly burned down candles from testing. I was wondering what would be the best method to clean these jars out so I can reuse them??
Just curious, and I hope I could get a response. So, my question is if one oz of FO is recommended for 1 pound of wax, shouldn't 8 oz be. 0.5 and if the jar holds 8oz liquid total then the FO would be under 0.5 like somewhere around 0.46 or so.
thank you for your content! 💛🙌
This was the most informative video for a beginner maker! I learnt so much with your formulas, can’t wait to put it all to practice !! I’d love to learn now how to formulate multiple 9oz vessels at the one time plus a video in how you normally do it in grams would be great 👍🏼
Oh I’m so glad! I’ll definitely look into making a video like that for you ☺️
Memory Box Candle Co although I tried to put it to the test using a 8.5oz vessel and wasn’t able to get the 10% FO 😒 I think the decimal is throwing me off
How much wax are you using inside the 8.5 oz vessel? Like 6.5 or 7 oz?
Memory Box Candle Co I haven’t got that fair yet. Trying to work out how much wax I’ll need for the 8.5 vessel haha I think I worked out roughly 5.66 ounces ?!
Hmm it all depends on what kind of vessel you’re working with. Go ahead and DM me on Instagram @memoryboxcandleco and I’ll help you!
Are there any candle making kits you would suggest for someone just starting out? I really want to get into candle making but don't want to dump a ton of money into it before I know that I'll enjoy it.
Honestly, I’m in the UK and I’m literally waiting for you to upload a new video no matter what time it is, can’t watch your videos enough!
How do you choose names for the different fragrances? I know generally we all associate a smell with an experience, but some candles have so many different notes I’d think it be hard to pinpoint but maybe it’s just me 😂 love your videos (if I haven’t said that enough already!) xx
Ahh thank you so much you’re so sweet! ☺️
Well for me and my brand, I associate the scents I use with a memory. It’s honestly just smelling the scent and whatever it reminds me of, I think of that memory and then think of a name. Everyone has their own different ways of naming scents, and sometimes people just call it what it is! 💕
Hey from the UK too! Memory Box Candle Co has helped me experiment with wax during lockdown life! I've opened up my own little wax melt instagram (instagram.com/mlt.it/) which will hopefully help people get inspiration and maybe in the future sell melts and candles! I just wanted to put my two pence in to say how great Memory Box Candle Co is too from a UK watcher :D - Stay safe! x
Love your shirt! So cute! Will be checking out that link. Thanks.
Thanks Gisselle! ☺️
I'm trying to figure out my wick sizes for my candles. What is a good time to wait until I do the test!?
Thank you so much for all this information. I was in the process of ordering supplies and I canceled everything And re-order product.
Hello! I love all your videos and I have learned so much . I do have a question I purchased some fragrance oil but they don’t have a percentage number just the once of the bottle . Can I just use any percentage?
Hi! Choose a percentage based on what your wax can hold :)
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thank you so much for replying! ☺️
I like your idea of buying lavender (or other fragrances) from each supplier. I just started making candles and purchased from Candle Science and Bulk Apothecary. I like Candle Science, Bulk Apothecary not so much. Thanks for the great info! Keep up the good work!
I love your videos, thanks for all this information. Im just now getting into it. Its funny as you started your video and said to not order a lot im like, omg thats me, its so addicting. I better stop.. then you said aztec does 5 bottles for 5 dollars, so here I go to get more..
Hello from Germany 🙋🏻♀️ Super Video! Love your Content ! This is helping me a lot 😊 especially the Math aspects 🤓🤣
Thank you so much Erica for all the amazing videos! They are PACKED with valuable information and I appreciate your selfless sharing so very much!
I think I have the math down correctly for figuring out how much wax and how much FO to use, and I am shocked at how much fragrance oil it takes for one candle! I have not had any seeping through the top of oil, and the cold throw is not overwhelming… Is the following correct?
A 9oz net weight candle coverts to 255.15g
I am using an 8% load of FO, and here is the math I used…
255.15g / 108% = 236.11g wax
255.15g - 236.11g = 19.04g FO
Thanks so much Erica again for all you have done to further great candle makers and the novices like me. 😊
Yes you did the math correctly!
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thank you so much!! You are a very good instructor!!😄
Hi,,in naming ur candle scents,do u have to copy the name of the frangrance oil like for if it is ice cream parlor,do you also need to name ur candle scent as icecream parlor? Or u can just name it according to what u like?😊
You can name it whatever you like :)
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo thank you godbless😊😊
what's the best way to test a scent before making a candle?
I love your videos :)
I plan to try this out. What are different wick options available and what do you recommend for about 150-200 gms candle?
"dude in a bottle." Lol 😂 I have this cologne that smells amazing. It's pretty much dude in a bottle. It has this citrusy, vanillay tobacco scent. And as the scent fades the vanilla really comes though. Id love to try and recreate that in candle form! 😊
Runs to the Aztec page and orders ice cream parlor 😂 love the video and fragrance oil reviews a LOT !
😅❤️ I’m looking forward to seeing how it performs!
So glad, I love doing them! Even if it’s a mini one ☺️
Memory Box Candle Co ya ! For sure
Hi, thank you so much for your all your videos they are extremely helpful. In an earlier video you said for example soy wax holds up to 12% of f/o, and in this video you said when mixing f/o for candle testing we can add 30%|40%. I’m very confused. If you don’t mind can you please explain it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you
HI Evita, Do you mind giving me a timestamp from this video where i say to add 30 or 40% FO when testing? This is a very old video but I just watched it back and could not find the area where I said this as that is not correct in the slightest, however I if I did say It I do need to cut it out of the video. Also a general statement of "soy wax can hold up to 12%" is not correct either. The particular soy wax that I use can hold up to 12%, however ALL waxes have a different fragrance load that they can hold and it's always best to check with the supplier to see what your specific wax can hold (as stated at 7:10)
Thank you for your comment and I definitely want to clear this up for you! ❤
EDIT: Are you referring to when I talk about blending fragrance oils together at 9:54? I think that may be where the confusion is!
I am not talking about 30 or 40% FO, I am talking about blending fragrances (using 40% of one scent and 60% of another to equal the amount of FO needed)
So for instance if I was needing to use 10 grams of FO total for one candle, but I wanted to do a blend of oils at 40/60% I would do 4 grams of one scent and 6 grams of another scent to equal a total of 10 grams. I hope this makes sense!
Hello. I made candles from palm wax and to 500 g of melted wax I added 25 g of perfume but it smells very strong. How much perfume should I add to not have such a strong smell? Thank you very much!
Hello Erica! Just wondering if there’s a formula for percentage oils depending on the jar size? I know the percentage is based on the wax, But is it fine to use a 4oz jar with a 10% fragrance load? What’s your take on that? I am using 8 oz tins, just trying to figure out what’s the best percentage to use. Love your videos by the way!💕🕯
Yes absolutely! It has nothing to do with the size of the jar. You can you 10% on a 2 oz candle or a 20 oz candle! It doesn’t matter :)
Memory Box Candle Co awesome! Thank you very much. 🤗
You are doing a great job with your videos about everything you need to know. It sucks when you are not from America, because in my country I don t have all the informations you can get. Only the wax has the information about the pouring and the FO loading. But when it comes to FO, I don t have many informations. Also, blow my mind with the essential oils vr fragrance. Because I have the idea to go all natural and now I m shocked :))
Do you have any recommended scents that pet friendly ? Thanks!
I heard or read somewhere that your oils should always come stored in a dark glass bottle....Is that the case?
Did you do any video on pricing for the ingredients of the candles.. i mean like waxes? How will I know if at my local candle store the wax is overpriced or underpriced? Basically I want to know what's the expected money one should be spending on the wax? Thank you for the great videos, they are so informative!
I haven’t done a video like that, but that would be interesting to research!
What size fragrance do you usually purchase and how long does it last? How much typically does it cost you to use fragrance per candle? I feel like I can only find small bottles which will barley be enough for my 16oz candle which recommends 8% fragrance and I feel like at that rate the fragrance is costing waay too much per candle. Im very confused.
It’s best to purchase in bulk for fragrance oil (16 oz bottles or larger!)
so how much oil should I be putting in a 1LB of wax
what are the 10 ml bottles of fragrance oils good for?
Hi am doing citronella candles but the amount of the oil in a 1lb of bee wax I don't know
Can you let us know how the hot throw is with aztec fragrances? I've heard that they can be not as strong as other companies
Yes I will let you know! I already know that I like the hot throw on tobacco :)
For fondant should i use fragrance oil as well and the same percentage you said
Fondant? Like for cakes?
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo no i mean wax tablets
also, using that much essential oils is really bad for the environment!! it takes a TON of plant matter to make even one drop of essential oil
Do you change the name of the fragrance oil you buy to what you want to call it for your company?
Yes!
Would the scent throw from a wax melt be the same/just as good as the scent throw in a candle? Or would I have to test them separately due to amount of wax being more in the candle? I was looking at ESSENTIAL Oils on Amazon and found some really good scents. Than you tell me this lol Thanks! $17 for 6 10oz bottles of essential oil. Way to expensive given how much oil goes into one candle.
You’ll have to test them separately!
EO are not really meant to be used in candle making, so it’s best to stick to Fragrance oils
Hey girl. Congrats on your colab with label company. So I got the soy #10 but can’t find any directions at all on melting temperatures and when to pour in FO. I’ve made a few candles and they don’t smell strong. Not sure if it’s just me or if I’m just used to the smell. I’d hate to sell and they don’t smell . I’ve done burn test but I can’t smell anything. I’ve read that if wax is too hot it burns the scent. But I can’t find anything specific to soy #10. What temp to add fragrance??
Hey girl, thank you! ❤️
Here’s the instructions for soy 10: calcandlesupply.com/content/Soy10.pdf
They recommend really high temps, but I typically heat to around 180, bring it down to 160 and add fragrance, stir and pour.
What fragrance oils are you using? I’ve found that the FO is really the main cause for a weaker HT for me
Omg I literally searched everywhere for this lol. Couldn’t find andthjng in wicks either lol. I’m using candle science. Love spell and peach. They are amazing. I was pouring at 135 so maybe that’s why?? Thank you sooooo much. I’m going to order from you soon.
Honestly that’s probably why! Soy 10 needs higher temps. I’m surprised it was enough able to come out of the pitcher! Usually anything under 150-155 starts to solidify for me! Try higher temps so that the scent can be thoroughly mixed through 🤗
And you are more than welcome! Ahh you’re so sweet, thanks girl ❤️
Hi ! one question ,
Maybe I misunderstood. So it’s better to measure the oil on weight instead of lbs or oz? So once I put it on the scale I’ll get the weight amount. I been measuring it in oz and if that’s the case , this could be the solution to my problem.
Hi! Yes so there’s oz in weight and oz in volume.
You have to measure out fragrance oil by weight (if you do it by volume the calculations will be off)
☺️
Oh my thank you soooo much ! I’m trying it today . I’m excited to see my new results & and once again thank you for all your videos 🙏👍
Good luck!! And you’re welcome :)
How do I know if I need to list for prop 65 in California? I am trying to avoid anything that requires that...
FO suppliers have to list it! Just check the description of the fragrance and it will say if it is on the prop 65 list ❤️
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo I thought so but wasn't sure. Thank you!
I have a box of eco soy wax would you know how much fragrance oil would be needed for that ?
I’m not too sure, I would contact the manufacturer or the supplier that you purchased from :)
Memory Box Candle Co thank you!
Yahweh loves you
Are Aztec supply fragrances phthalate free?
I believe most of them are. Under each scent on the website it tells you on whether or not it’s phthalate free :)
Have you ever tried making color candles ? I'm hoping it's not too difficult!
I worked at an ice cream shop for years in high school!! So definitely let me know how you like that scent!
Okay so it smells EXACTLY like pillsbury vanilla frosting, which isn’t bad it smells really yummy. But the hot throw just wasn’t as strong as I wanted it to be :( I’m gonna try again with my larger jars but if not I’m going to try “cake” by candlescience!
Oh and I’ve made colored tarts! I’m actually looking into going completely dye-free though. But it’s not difficult to color wax, there’s dye chips or liquid dye :)
Memory Box Candle Co I've been wondering about cake!! I've heard mixed things!
Me too! I figure the best way to know is to test it out myself 😁
Told you!! Mohagony Teakwood for the win!!
Omg it’s soooo good! I love the smell of it so much!
I bought it. Haven’t tried it yet
Great video, thank you for all your content.
Does anyone know where I can buy fragance oils in Europe? American websites charge me a lot of money for sending them.
Hi, thank you for watching! Unfortunately I’m not familiar with suppliers in Europe :/
If you’re not already, I would join the Facebook group DIY Candle making beginners to advanced, and make a post to see if anyone purchases FO in Europe :)
@@MemoryBoxCandleCo Thank you!
Can we be friends? LOL Absolutely love your videos. Thank you a million!
We can absolutely be friends! Haha. You’re very welcome! ❤️
You are beautiful.
what the heck is the deal.......................no supplier has any wicks as of this comments.
