  • SUCTION CONTROL VALVE - when & why on which vehicle should you replace it.
Toyota Nissan and other fuel systems use these compact type SCV‘s they can cause stalling blowing smoke rattles in knocks understand why. Toyota Prado Hilux 3.0L d4d 1KDFTV diesel.
This could be why your engine rattles this could be why your engine blows smoke if it needs an SCV it needs injectors first.

My 2006 (584tkm) Land cuiser / Prado started stalling when the weather got cold (-15c). Never had any issues with the motor before that. I Found this channel and videos about the scv. Quick glance reveiled mine to be the short version. Obd scanner showed 27000-40000kpa fluctuation in the fuel pressure when idling.
A stop at the parts dealer to pick up the new (long version) scv for 230e and one hour charge from a near by garage for changin the part and that fixed the problems. Now the idle fuel pressure is around 33000-36000kpa. No stalling.
Fingers crossed this was the main reason for the problems.

Tiny tip: where you said at 15:53 to hold it steady at 3000 rpm what makes it easier if (with your foot on the accelerator pedal), just slide your foot (with heel still on the carpet) to the side (right in AUSTRALIA) till it just touches the vertical trim on the side wall.
This helps to stabilise your foots movement so you can make very fine adjustments up and down to match (in this case 3000 rpm).
I actually drive like this when on the rough stuff, or on up and down bits where normally momentum on your body will tend to give too much acceleration or under acceleration..,as a side benefit I believe over a long period of time this will actually not only save fuel but give a smoother ride with the vehicle not having to cope with “pulse” accelerator inputs.
It may only be a small saving, but over the years I’m sure you would rather have that money in your pocket than the fuel companies, LOL!

Love your short vids, very informative. Cheers from Tassie

Don't know if you can help with a problem I have on my 2007 Auris D4D? There was a problem starting the car during cold weather, hot stating was fine. Pouring hot water over the SCV on cold mornings helped, so everything indicated it was a problem with the SCV valve. My auris is fitted with the short SCV and I decided the replace with the same type SCV valve, to save getting the car reprogrammed by Toyota. This maybe a poor decision. Since the SCV was replaced, the car is now in limp mode with a error P0093. I even replaced the old SCV back onto the car, cleared the P0093 error and the error keeps returning and back into the limp mode. Any ideas what could be causing this problem? Thanks

So how the heck would Peninsula 4x4 say "my 07 hilux 1KD-Ftv fuel pressure was fluctuating over 1,300PSI at Idle and should be much lower," then recommended replacing the SCV which happens to be Denso?
Going on what Anthony said in this video (if I'm correct) It's meant to be around 35,000 kpa or approx 5000psi, so what does it mean if it's actually lower than recommended PSI not higher?
Plus he said I should do the valve before the injectors as they are not due yet.
What annoys me is that he wouldn't show me the values either. grrrrrrr

Sounds like mate ya just want to sell the genuine 1 ,without explaining whats wrong with the after market 1 then reapeating yourself over and over.waste of time of 20min.theres other ressons apart from the SCV that can be csusing problems , a proper mechanic will know what it is without changing this and that and spending thousands when it wasnt needed.im not saying the genuine isnt better, just explain why the shott 1 is rubbish ? If its new and it works its not rubbish unless ya changing em every week and ya saved yourself 300 bucks when it does the same job as genuine , wouldnt be on the shelf if it never worked
