MINE IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. My internet is perfectly fine. It works on my phone and every device, in the google home app it even says it’s connected. But the screen still shows up. I’m so sick of it!!

I just bought a used gen 2 chromecast on eBay, as soon as I put it on it came up the can’t connect to wifi screen so I assumed the previous owner had the same issue & sold it to me as a dud. But I held the tiny button on the chromecast in for 20 seconds, it reset & works perfectly. Wish I’d known that before spending an hour faffing about with the wifi router.

I’ve been trying to fix this for hours. if this doesn’t work for you, I learned on a webpage that if you have a dual band settings (2.4GHz and 5 GHz) Chromecast only works on 2.4 GHz band (at least on an older one which I have). Once I found this put my problem was solved.
how do I know if my WiFi is either of the 2 you mentioned above? Man this shit is still driving me crazy

So a combination of steps worked for me (thank you, btw). Press and hold the button for a factory reset, and it only works in the 2.4GHz. The device updated and it is good to go. Had nothing to do with modem/router.

i pushed the reset button on router. i still get the message "can't connect to wifi". all my other devices are on this wifi and works.. so why google chrome won't work.. it still amazes me.

For the people whom when it comes up check internet connection/restart router or something of the like.
Keep restarting router,it may take a few on and off's maybe a few more, but it will happen

I have the chromecast 3 generation i hook it up and go to google home app. It shows the device i try to connect to it and it show the device cannot communicate. Please help im going to throw this out the window it driving me crazy. Ps i have the 2 generation chromecast and it works perfectly fine.

You have to make sure location is on on your phone so Chromecast can find it... You may have Google home in your previous network you named and you pull down menu if you had to connect to before ..don't try to connect to Google home in the pull down menu. Go to like screencast or Smart view or whatever You having your pull down menu to connect your phone to your screen and then mine's recognized it and came up... But make sure you make a new network room location in the Google home app. Like when it says add a device

It depends on the chromecast you have, on mine there's a button in the circle thingy of the chromecast, you just need to hold the button until it resets the connection, open the google home app and follow the steps thoroughly.

I'm using Chromecast 1 and my wifi network is not getting listed in the last step.. So I tried to enter the wifi name and password and my Chromecast device is keep on searching for that network and it could not find it ,even though I am able to connect other devices using the same wifi and connect to internet.
Guys I connected my chromecast to another WiFi connection ( my phone hotspot) , it connected .
And then
I disconnected the hotspot and tried my wifi from the router again and it worked
So just try this it may work for you 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

just bought a chromecast ultra and been trying to connect all day, i decided to upgrade from the 3rd gen due to 4k tv capabilities. this didnt even work me. just got in not even 1 hour ago and want to return it
Usually 4k TV already have some sort of computer in it that does what a Chromecast does.

I had WiFi on every other device and it wouldn't connect to Chromecast. Unplugged it several times and still wouldn't work. Held the small button on the Chromecast til the screen went black and now it works. Hopefully that makes sense.

There is a reset button on the chromecast. You need to hold that button down for about 10 seconds or so until the light turns back to white.

@@kdigiacomo ... mine is sorted now. You need to re conne t the cromecadte that is attached to the tv. Press the re set button on the side
Should grasp the wifi.

I changed my router and my chromecast was not connecting. Long story short after a week I finally saw that my device was paused on my router. I simply unpaused it and factory reset the chromecast
Have the same issue except my internet is working just fine :(

Remove power to Chromecast and reconnect. Magic!
What i did was plug out the thing and plug it back in and the internet just worked

Brother if there in no internet then it is quite simple we have internet but chromecast is not communicating with our wifu

Nothing but issues with this "smart home" shit. 0.1/10 would NOT reccomend.

doesn't work man. it did factory reset, but I still can't connect to the WiFi
all you need to do to fix this option is hold down the button on the side of your chromecast device for 20 seconds to factory reset it. i had the same wifi issues then it fixed it. u will have to set it up again (new name)
