    Totally disagree on him being plan 'B'. Nobody in their right mind should have wanted Clingan over Edey. The noise about Clingan was all about trying to keep other people from grabbing Edey. It was a classic Red Auerbach strategy. How could you even speculate that any sane person would want Clingan over Edey? To do that someone would have had to be working some serious mojo on the other guys' minds. Oh! And that's what actually happened. Let's give the psych out kudos to Kleiman! The ESPN bozos and other "pundits" helped fuel the Clingan fire and Kleiman just rode that wave. JMO

      100% agree with this, I think Kleiman played some excellent strategic games and got exactly what he wanted.

    I have to eat crow for my previous Zach Edey takes. This guy is going to be a monster like Yao or Shaq! Grizz can play big or small if needed. And Zach will eventually learn to shoot more proficiently

    I think Clingan being rated higher than Edey is silly. Edey is better offensively, hits free throws, is bigger, moved better in the combine, played way more minutes injury free, has a first rate mentality and defends
    The rim second to none when he decides to, which is key. He didn’t hunt blocks like Clingan because he HAD to avoid foul trouble due to his minutes usage. Late in game he was a beast defending, which is more impressive since he’d just played 30 minutes

      @gregbors8364 14 дней назад

      He’s great at blocking layups attempts but pro players can switch up and hit that quick midrange that he won’t be able to get to without goaltending. He’ll be a decent backup at best

  • @johnelliott3439
    @johnelliott3439 19 дней назад +5

    There was more risk in Clingan than Edey due to his foot issue. He's in Portland which has a bad history of drafting bigs and their lower body issues.

  • @actrade1
    @actrade1 19 дней назад +3

    Wait until he can play without worrying about fouling out. He was on a “do not foul” list at Purdue. Go back and watch his block of Knecht late in that game. He will be a defensive force in the NBA and Ja Morant will love his massive screens and rolls

    The Grizzlies out-maneuvered other teams by having everybody think Clingan was their guy, preventing other teams from thinking they would have to move up very high to land Edey.

  • @blakewidmer
    @blakewidmer 19 дней назад +2

    I think its great for Zach and the Grizz that Edey is skipping olympics. He will play for them in 2028 but this year he probably wouldn't have played much. Summer league and gelling with NBA teammates is more important than national camaraderie.

    The Grizzlies could have signed both Drummond ($5M) and Delon ($3.3M) for less than what Kennard is asking for. It didn't have to be Drummond; Goga or a proven center with size would have worked. Hopefully, when the season starts, they can assimilate early to develop chemistry. They have a fantastic roster, but adding vets in the two spots they need most (point guard and center) would provide more assurance. Expect times when players are out-having players to cover those spots would help and could still be achieved inexpensively. Let's see what happens.

  • @DJJuan2memphis

    My theory is that the Grizzlies were trying to get Clingan & Edey. If they got Clingan first and nobody, it seems wanted Edey, he would have been available later. Just my mind thinking.

    I was baffled that grizzlies didn’t make a move on Drummond or Jonas.
    I really am fearing that our management are penny pinching. If I was Ja, Bane and Jaren I’d start flexing and saying, “look, we are here IF YOU ARE WILLING TO SPEND ON SQUADS”.
    It’s very unlikely for us to win it all without EVENTUALLY, going all in. I actually think it’s smart to not do that this year, but we passed up on some great players that would make our team exponentially better. Those centers went cheap! I’m hoping we are holding out for a smaller, faster center. Actually, Tillman would be amazing now. Basically use Edey for big teams and a small center for smaller teams.
