I like when you acknowledge the comics in these arguments. You’re not just another reviewer who tries to say they’re just trash, while mindlessly praising the adaptations that they inspire.
You’re fair when it comes to letting adaptations do their own thing as long as it doesn’t deviate too much from the core of the character, while still showcasing their worth writing wise with out of context arguments like these and just saying “but the comics” to cover their dumb argument.

Nope. The game outlines that the anti-aging drug caused him to turn evil. He created it with the original intention to prolong his career as Spider-Man and thus save more people. But it had side effects on his brain chemistry and caused him to become evil. So prior to even taking the anti aging drug, he was still trying to be the best Spider-Man he can be, which is another variable going against his character in this game.

I can imagine why Peter would be put off by letting this version of MJ die; it's simply not in his character to say, "Screw it, I know she'll be fine anyway."
This is not to justify how he was written in the game by any means, but it definitely could have been interesting to play with that idea, like how Insomniac did, where he very painfully has to come to that conclusion since it is still his wife. Once that happened, it could play with how that would affect him moving forward, even if he did see her again later. But that's all speculative and going off of an admittedly limited understanding of the character

No, nobody deserves death in his eyes, especially his wife, even if it was some random dude I feel like he would make the same moral option.

      @s.k.4289  4 месяца назад +5

Then why does he say “you’re saying the lives of a billion strangers are more important than my loved ones” when the good he will do is brought up?
Why doesn’t he look into the archives of other people in history who died like he did with MJ? The reason is that Miguel outlined that poking into the archives is dangerous in itself, so it’s a risk Peter is only okay with taking to save his loved ones. Note that he does not do this for anyone else after saving MJ.
And again, there’s not a valid dilemma if MJ is going to live anyway if Miguel’s mission is done, but would die anyway if Miguel’s mission fails.

    • @spider-manunknown9193

@@s.k.4289 you know what I’m glad that you responded I appreciate it. Honestly, this is good conversation.
And yes, I do think you are right when Miguel tells Peter not to look in archives and he still does it and he only looks at Mary Jane’s. That is a valid criticism. But I really think the reason why my statement doesn’t necessarily work is because he did say that statement of you think billions of strangers is worth more than my loved ones. But at the same time, this is the game that even you mentioned has great quotes by Spider-Man. I think it’s less of Peter being a bad Spider-Man in this game and more of the game being inconsistent with his dialogue.
Because to me still, Peter still has rights to not sit by and let somebody die just because some algorithm says he shouldn’t do it. I get you when you say he’s only doing it for his loved ones I really do. But at the same time he selflessly stays in the future so nothing occurs to anybody, especially his love ones that’s why he doesn’t tell his loved ones his secret identity. I want to find some common ground. This is interesting conversation I like to have.

@@s.k.4289 and would you say the game would have been better if there were more missions of saving people that were in the archives that were scheduled to die. Because I just feel like that’s just from bad game design by having Peter only worry about MJ and not worry about anybody else what is Peter just so happened to see them does look for MJ I’m not aware. Because if he doesn’t then, that’s fucked up, but if he does, he happened to stumble upon her profile that’s completely different.

Because even Winnie he has a mission, Spider-Man is still Spider-Man and he’s going to have to save people even when the situation is stacked against him. If Peter was there himself, he would’ve done it himself. Peter would’ve happily died for the sake of rescuing Mary Jane. I don’t know the personally I feel like it’s less of the fact that it’s Mary Jane, and more of the fact that he wants to save a person who doesn’t need unnecessary death.

I personally love Edge of Time as a game. Its story, voice-acting, and music gave me a really fun and memorable time for the length that the game was.
I think it’s common on RUclips video essays for someone to critique something as bad, label it as fact, and when someone defends it, it’s all of a sudden “Well that was just my opinion!!!”

The "it was written by the creator" argument has so many holes it's not even funny. Sadly I have used it before in defense of the Star Wars Prequels. I still love the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy and George Lucas's creative vision, but I won't say that they were perfectly written films. The dialogue and dated CGI in certain cases alongside certain actors giving stilted performances do take the movies down a notch and I've come to admit that.
That's what we should do on the internet and in real life as fans: acknowledge the flaws in what we love but don't let those flaws cloud our love for them. Knowing they have flaws doesn't make them bad, it means that we recognize these things were made by imperfect human beings, just like us.

Does this mean I should stop quoting the "If you don't get that, you don't get the first about being Spider-Man." now that I know the context behind it? 😞
4:21 *"I can never permit one innocent being to come to harm... because Spider-Man failed to act... and I swear that I never will."* This reminds me of Amazing Fantasy #1000, where a random crook had a habit of committing crimes when Avengers-level threats happened. So when a crisis strikes, The Avengers are too busy to notice. He would take part in small felons. But Spider-Man kept webbing him up for the cops. So he asked Spidey why he would never let him slide. Peter explained that no matter how small a crime he committed, it would *always* affect others. *"Until you stop doing what you're doing, I'm never going to stop finding you and putting you away... because to me, you're not just "some guy."* It's not that he chose to help Mary Jane; that's a given. It's a fact he chose the well-being of his life over everyone else. What separates *Edge of Time* from ATSV is that Miles didn't say screw the universe, and Jeff Morales was the only life that mattered. He said, *"I can do both."* His perseverance against Miguel's cynicism made that conflict a staple of what it truly means to be Spider-Man. If Peter, in that game, debated Miguel about finding a way to save MJ and the timeline, then we'd have a conflict where we'd root for Peter to find a solution. Instead, Miguel gives Peter a happy ending, leaving Peter looking selfish rather than altruistic.

Yeah you're right, for the longest time I thought him selfishly saving MJ is Peter being impulsive and selfish like in the comics sometimes but now looking at this video I realise yeah it's never really shown as a bad moment or something wrong. I still love Peter David tho. May he get well soon.
