Dr. Joe DeMarco, chiropractor and owner of OcraMed Health, discusses how a small muscle, the pec minor, can cause big problems.
The pectoralis minor (pec minor) is a small muscle that lies under the pectoralis major. It originals off of the 3rd, 4th and 5th ribs and inserts onto the coracoid process of the scapula. When contracted, it draws the scapula (and shoulder) forwards and downwards.
When the pec minor becomes restricted and tight from fascial adhesions (scar tissue), it pulls the shoulders down and forward.
This can cause posture problems, potential shoulder injuries and trouble with your bench pressing (and other pressing exercises).
In today's video, I demonstrate how to perform fascial release therapy on the pec minor muscle. I also demonstrate how to stretch the pec minor.
Work on these techniques every day for the next several weeks. Leave me a comment in the comment section down below and let me know how these techniques work for you.
