Sabena, 65 years of excellence - company history, and vision beyond 1988.
From the 70s Sabena is looking for a partner. An international alliance could improve the company's financial situation, several attempts (including KLM) fail.
In 1978, the then Minister of Transport Jos Chabert proposes, Carlos Van Rafelghem as new CEO of Sabena - seen in this video.
Chabert carries him as the man who must remediate the precarious financial situation of the airline.
His restructuring plan fails and the search for a partner begins again. Late 80s an agreement with KLM and British Airways jumps-off, the outbreak of the Gulf War was the cause this time.
After the death of Van Rafelghem in 1991, Minister of Transport Jean-Luc Dehaene proposes Pierre Godfroid as head of Sabena.

Super,merci, Une pensée pour notre roi Baudoin ,je me rappelle,((1985*1992 ,mon époque donc))et dommage.. que les mécaniciens de bord n'existent plus,les repas à bord waouwww ....L'Europe, ,nos ministres qui ont décidé de la fin qu'ils soient maudits. Ils nous ont trahi ainsi que le pays.Mais elle reste dans nos pensées,donc elle existe encore.Bonne fête à tous les Sabéniens ainsi qu'à leur famille.

brussels airlines est la continuite de la Sabena, Brussels Airlines provient de la DAT qui faisait partie de Sabena.

Did not realize the importance of Sabena's North American and African market, respectively. Shame on Swissair for destroying a true flag carrier!

....I Miss SABENA...They used to fly to Montreal at Dorval and then...Mirabel in 1975 til it's last Day.....

I flew Sabena few times in the 70s and the 80s and it is used to be a great airline. Service was great and the staff were helpful. Miss that kind of service these days.
