This was when we had observation decks to watch airplanes, this was when we could walk out to the gates with a friend who was flying, this was when flying was FUN...
Then Jimmy Carter deregulated the industry and every loser alive now can afford to fly. Airlines compete on price and frequency. So therefore you receive a crappy product. It's like socialized medicine and socialism in general. A proverbial race to the bottom
@@jimdep333 -- Carter gave away the Panama Canal. Did he ever do anything positive for America?
@@jimdep333 deregulation is quite the opposite of socialism.... It's capitalism. Let the private sector battle it out. It's pretty much what America stands for....
@@jimdep333 hate much
Honestly though I couldn't have traveled to all the places I went to in my 20's if prices had been at 1970s levels
I've been a flight attendant for 30 years I started 1991 my first airplane was a DC-10 I am so blessed to have that experience!
Crazy 30 years... My parents were 20 in 1991
I recently retired from American Airlines I worked for 33 years I started my first job with pan am in 1987
You should have seen it in the late 60s and 70s. I was fortunate in that my father was an officer in the Navy and through different assignments, the whole family got to fly many times during this Era. Everyone was so polite. They dressed beautifully too. There was leg room and full meal service. Everything, was a 1000x better. I even miss the cigarette and cigar smoke. Pan AM and TWA - sigh.
Sometimes films like these make me feel like I was born in the wrong era. I wish I could have experienced these beautiful aircraft in person.
As a kid during this Era, I was fortunate that my father was an officer in the Navy and as a result, i got to fly a lot. It's so depressing what air travel has turned into. I refuse to fly coach today. The lack of manners, hygiene, leg room, service and people who cannot fit into one seat, is just too much. No thanks, I'll pay for business or try to upgrade to first. Aa a last resort, I'll drive. That's right, I would rather drive then fly coach. You can thank President Ronald Reagan, deregulation and corporate greed for the way things are today.
Taken aback by the immense beauty of this film
What an absolute treasure this was to watch. Beautiful footage of the old stuff. I was salivating at all the VC10 and Trident footage
Look at all those 747s. I’m really sad to see it go in 2023. Long live the queen of the sky’s.

Not a phone or iPad in sight. Beautiful.
This film footage is friggin awesome!! Man i miss the glory days of flying. Going right to the gate to see someone off or get them home, getting real metal flight attendant wings as a kid (still got mine at age 49) leg room, flying wide bodies from city to city with plenty of open seats to stretch out/sleep. Going to the airport was just awesome as a kid, now as an adult...flying cattle cars.
Wow, this looks absolutely amazing! This makes me wish I was alive during this time. What a great era of aviation!
Love seeing the Boeing 747-100s/200s!
I flew on an early 747 as a child. It was National Airlines aka Sun King. Half full and a huge interior. I had to be 6 or 7 yo. Had to be '71 or '72
jimdep333 wow, thanks for sharing! I never had an opportunity to fly on one of those sadly. The closest I got was in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in D.C. when I got into the front of a Northwest B747-151 with the Bowling Shoe Livery. I still love to see the old videos and the older ones that still fly. Again, thanks for sharing, that was very interesting and made my morning!

Flew on a TWA 747SP from St.L to Chi. Fitting -- the shorty on a shorty flight.
Tamburello_1994 wow, that’s awesome, love the SP!
You're probably lucky you weren't alive back then. You could be my age (73) with lots of physical ailments.
I took a 747 from Honolulu to Sydney in 1976. What a magical aircraft!
My family took a 747 from LA to Honolulu in 1973! I can still remember the bright orange interior. It was so comfortable and roomy! What a beautiful experience. Everyone was so nice, and dressed beautifully. Full meal service was wonderful too. I miss everything, even the cigarette smoke!
Funny to watch the crowd scenes. All those people walking without having their noses glued to a smartphone.
@@Z28-h2y Thing is, last time, people were more social.
Miami, Tampa and Palm Beach airports in the 1970's. Wish I could go back and visit. That would be a dream come true!
Amazing footage, even without the raw sound I watched this start-to-finish and was completely lost in the abyss of nostalgia!
Wow... What awesome footage. Reminds me so much of my childhood. My dad worked at San Jose and San Francisco airports in the 60's and 70's. We used to go to the airports and plane watch all the time. To this day I still love to watch planes take off and land. Some of the aircraft in this video are awesome to see again. Thank you for this footage.
This is probably 1972 or '73, before BOAC and BEA were merged to form British Airways. Later in the video, there is post-1976 footage, as the Concorde did not enter revenue service until that year. Not to mention that British Airways was formed in 1974 from the merger of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British European Airines (BEA).
There are a couple of 1973/74 cars in the beginning
Stunning. It truly takes you back. Wonderful to see the Pan Am WorlPort, Pan Am 707's, and TWA terminals at JFK! And one must not forget the Concorde!
All those 747's are clean and brand new.
9:46must have been just at the time of the BEA/BOAC merger. There's the brand new Concorde in British Airways livery, and a VC-10 newly painted in the background, and also 747s still in BOAC livery.
1:46 wow classic cars everywhere 😍😍😍😍
Thank you for that blast from the past. What a beautiful world it was.
This was an era when Pan Am and TWA were the powerhouse airlines that were truly Trans World carriers to all corners of the globe. Now? It's all about American and United. And no more jumbo jets that Pan Am and TWA were renowned for.
Scooby Carr and when flying was considered glamorous and stewardesses were like fashion models.
@@hadihatab3126 Yes, that's true, and we always got service with a smile, and decent food, and people weren't always in a crappy mood while flying the way they seem to be today, flying was actually looked at as a fun experience. TWA and Pan Am were the biggest airlines flying between the US and Europe in the 70s and early 80s. Those 2 airlines and British airways were the 3 biggest airlines for between the US and London back then
jfk airport looks so nice we began the future hope will live in space
This is FANTASTIC. What memories of these awesome birds. And the vid is so clear. Thanks for posting. What a gem!!
"The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone."

Airplane 1980, i remembered lol

What a beautiful film that encapsulated that era of flying. The music was so soothing and highlighted the joy and excitement of flying back then. Switch today its nothing but stressful along with the clientele one has to endure when company books you on a no frills airline
People seemed more polite and kind. Are you seeing the same?
They certainly was
Sure no doubts
You are so right.
Whoever recorded this did one hell of a good job. The quality is better than some of HD videos of today.
No doubt recorded on actual film, which is much higher resolution than digital recordings.
@@Jackal776 yes, this is made by professionals, probably footage for TV news or the like. Also, some parts are before 1974 and some later because there are British Airways Planes and the Concorde.
Agree, and specially the quality is more then outstanding considering the time.
When your record a video with your phone, the image quality is a shit.

I love the trip-star L1011, the favorite plane of my childhood.
All the great airlines like PanAm, TWA, Eastern are long gone
So glad I was able to experience flying back in the day . British Airways is still going strong and still has great service!
G
STUNNING photography, an amazing historical record
What an era..those 747s..those Concorde’s..that amazing crew..the buffet and drinks inside the plane..Where r we now...in hell
Brings back such good memories of hours spent up on the roof of the Queens building and variois LHR car parks
A great video. Thank you very much! What happened to that world? I wouldn't call it progress!
Good point Luther, what did happen to the world? Remember the 2 great airlines...Pan Am and TWA. Both gone for ever. What a loss. Hopefully Virgin Galactic will take us to the stars soon.

Thank you for uploading this nostalgic footage.
This is beautiful. Fantastic quality shots of BOAC 747-100s, and look at that fantastic lineup of Tridents at4:10! And just look at that VC-10 5:30!!
The Trident was the first autoland capable jet airliner.
05:27 VC10. Beautiful aircraft.
And very fast. Still, it couldn't compete with the Boeing 707.
One of those good ones was the L1011 ..for me the real aircraft .. sadly we never see that again..
I came here for nostalgia. That song was PERFECT (for me).
Beautiful Tri-Star and Concord clips love, love

If there are time travellers reading this, would you please take me back to the 1970s?
Félix Veilleux-Ouellet Errm,...me too, please! Thanks!

Only so I can live through the 80s again, though, please/

Ok what date but you can’t reveal any info
Wow, great to see. This was shot using Kodak 16mm film on bright sunny days with a tripod to give the HD like results. Love the early BA livery and it appears the Concorde landing procedure changed at some point in the decades that followed.
70s never will come back . i remember those day in aviation the best , sadly for us we have to adjust to the modern days .
You are the Man... Great Music and incredible footage.... Loved it from start to finish..... 😁🇺🇲👍
I loved the TWA terminal. I remember flying an L 1011 from JFK to O’Hare back in 1987.
Stunning. Love the HD. Love the old birds.
0:55 “Forklift, yeah it’s over there by the baggage loader” SMASH!
When the mighty Boeing 747 ruled the skies.
Oh how I long for those days again! 😥
The Charles Bronson movie "Death Wish" was filmed at the TWA terminal at JFK.
newlam So was “Catch Me If You Can”, well parts of it
Great to see the oldies were busy in the airport.. nice great old planes..
Awesome. So much variety then. Today is boring with all two engines
And to think that in 40-50 years our current aviation world will be the vintage era, with A340's, A380's and 747's still ruling the skies...
Great video! I miss the days of the jets with black smoke exhaust...
I remember flying on BOAC very well!
love the music
The resolution on this is unbelievable! Can’t shoot like with that digital mess today
incredible high quality footage from the era of grainy SD video
Quality is stunning 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Fabulous aircrafts! Tho they sure do pollute a lot and are mostly gone. I wish I could visit the 70s SO BADLY!
It was an awesome time. I would love to go back...
A fantastic film. Many thanks for pub.
Delightful footage, thanks for posting!
I miss those days. We lived in San Pedro CA durning that time, and flew Western Airlines out of LAX a lot. "THE ONLY WAY TO FLY"
And PSA
Torrance, with the big jets traveling right overhead on their way out. We'd run out of the classroom when we heard a 747 going over ... just to see !!!
@@flyingtigerline That's incredible! Did Torrance airport really have big jets around at one time? I was born too late! 😔

This video's a gem. Too bad there's no sound.
But there is - the beautiful music.

Big thanks for this video 👍
Wonderful video, love it!
this is awesome Im doing an art project on airports in the 1970s this is perfect... what a find thank you
Very little if any security.
This is like looking into the future, except it’s the past … sad
Ah the good old times
No way! That’s the TWA flight center at the beginning right? I saw the (meanwhile) Hotel in real life, but soo interesting to see how it looked like… when it still was in service👀
This is a must see
Holy shit! What a perfect quality!
Great footage!
i love those liveries
Wonderful times.
The Pan Am 747 rolling up to the terminal window reminded me of the scene in Airplane! (1980) with the exact same shot (as if they literally took the scene from this video!) and the 747 that keeps coming at rhem and crashes thru the winsow senskng everyone off runninh ans screaming lol

видел сам, как ранним утром датчане поднимались на борт BOEING 737, а в это время чепорные англичане поднимались на CONCORDE, там пили красный лимонад FIASCO. Лезут, лезут вверх англичане, а англичане вторят I LOVE YOU. Лезут англичане и датчане и даже Ростовчане, how do you do. (THE WORLD CONCORDE MENSTRUATION CIRCUL CONTROL сокращённая абривиатура WCMCC) Отсюда туалет и стали обозначать WC(WOMEN CONTROL) т.к. были известны случаи разгерметизации и возгорания двигателя лайнера. А причиной была прокладка ALWAYS. Даже у ВИТНИ Хьюстон есть песня про прокладки ALWAYS. Вот текст песни :AND I, WE ALWAYS LOVE YOU UUU, WE ALWAYS LOVE YOU UUUUUUU.......

How I miss the stinky, noisy jets of yesteryear...flying was a real thrill back then...not so today and with jets that all look like generic cigar tubes with giant coke tins for engines.
