His voice painted a picture clearer than any TV could produce. Dad always would mute the TV and put on the radio and listen to the master. Rest in peace.
I love that man so much..zero bias For many years we used to turn down the TV commentary and place the radio over the tv so we could listen to Michael in full flow
Jesus I couldn't tell you how many times watched the all Ireland finals and other games on TV and listen to the commentary on the radio the man is a legend
The out and out king of commentary in Irish sport, a voice I've grown up with capable of electrifying any game and making the players dance in the imagination of any listener. Nobody compares.
Never heard of him until I saw him in an ASMR video. Kind of an ironic introduction to someone who’s apparently a legend for doing pretty much the exact opposite.
Same here! He doesn’t really “do” ASMR. His sandwich video from the Irish Times just happens to have calming qualities that classify it as “unintentional ASMR” which I find more satisfying. Other you tubers are just reposting it as such.
"Pat Fox has it on his hurl and is motoring well now...but here comes Joe Rabbitte hot on his tail...I've seen it all now, a Rabbitte chasing a Fox around Croke Park!" RIP Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh
We will never see his likes again he gave so much joy to those of us who were captivated by his enthusiasm turn of phrase and sheer joy even if you were on the loosing side R I P Michael you were the real Winner Thank You .

The King of broadcasting in any sport in Ireland and will always be remembered as the best there ever was as far as I'm concerned. Right now the next best commentator we have in today is Darragh Maloney
many a gealic legend came out of Kerry but This man is by far the ge greatest a voice of our childhoods and a hell of a sports commentator what a legend
He ruined many a sunny Sunday on our local beach with his stupid nonsense coming from car radios. Thank God, no other child will have to hear his _dachad slat amach_ rubbish polluting the airwaves 😁
I admit coming from Derbyshire when I first saw his surname my tongue was tied up trying to pronounce it then in 2006 trainer Willie Mullins had a racehorse with the same name running at the Cheltenham Festival & it was Tony O'Hehir who told our racing commentators how to say it
Pat Fox has it on his hurl and is motoring well now, but here comes Joe Rabbitte hot on his tail… I’ve seen it all now, a Rabbitte chasing a Fox around Croke Park!
I’m from the United States, and I found this video when I decided to search my last name to see what came up. It sounds like he goes back and forth between speaking English and speaking Irish. But there are other times where it sounds like he is combining the two languages at once. Am I hearing this correctly?
Gaelic football is the one with the soccer sized ball. Hurling is the one with the sticks and smaller ball(sliotar). Both are traditional irish sports played on the same type field with similar rules.
RIP to the great man
Never be anyone like him again
His father's from fermanagh, his mother's from fiji. Neither a hurling stronghold. My favourite quote of all time

I searched this quote to find the video haha
He's driving towards goal now. He's on the 40, he's on the 21 ... and he's on the ground 😂

Yes! We did that in our house too!

Never will see the likes of him again, he brought games to life on the wireless, you could nearly imagine you were there.
It's the end of an Era. Soundtrack of many many peoples childhood..😢
This man is just pure quality. Simples!
In all seriousness, I don't care very much for sports, but I've watched and listened to games just because he was doing the commentary.

Yes. He’s an Irish speaker and so his Irish often comes out in the middle of his English language commentary, particularly at moments of high drama.

Ok so I don't wanna offend anyone, but what sport is this? I'm a big sports fan and I can honestly say I've never seen this one before.

What language does he give commentary in? Im sorry i cant really pick up what he is saying as im not from anywhere in Ireland nor British
English
mostly english but he can break into irish mid sentence and return back to english in the same commentary
which makes him a legend of a commentator
is he speaking English or gaelic ?
Both at the same time
