They can show their support to black people by buying from black people. We already been buying from them and they never returned that favor. We done supporting everyone and their business.
BOTH!! To get accepted by society and job opportunities. Many jobs I worked at had NO people of color at ALL!! I only got opportunities because of White people who needed A BLACK FACE to cover up the truck of inequality by hiring someone of Color. But it was a Nightmare to work under those conditions!!
As an Indian who was trafficked as a child I always embraced my darker skin and found a kindred unity in black people. It still feels like black people are the only group that understands my story. Plus my dna test shows that being from Sri Lanka my origins come from Sudan with hints of Ethiopian
@@cecegiles4583 I wish I could answer that. I was adopted to white people through international mission of hope and despite my yt families attempts to keep me connected with my community I was rejected by the Indian community from a young age. I have lived with a sense of no identity or community my whole life that’s why when I say how I was cut from my roots, the black community embraced me due to those similarities
@Corporal Chill Mood Vibez they are the only group I really relate to. I’m attracted to black women and honestly never had a desire to date white or European. Black folks are the only group I didn’t have to qualify my existence with
Massive thank you, Phil, for giving me the opportunity share my message. I truly believe that if we have more solidarity between our two communities, fighting WS will become much easier. It’s a shame I see anti-blackness in the SA community and am determined to fight this too no matter what it takes. Thank you again 🙏🏾
Thank you so much for receiving my story with kindness. I just want to see change and believe everyone is beautiful exactly the way they are. It took a long time to realise this, but now that I have, nothing is stopping me from sharing my message and from encouraging solidarity between the two communities 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
As a Desi (South Asian) I have to say that everything you said is true regarding colorism. We have been mentally colonized and have yet to shake off the shackles of colonialism. We would not have been allowed in the United States in mass numbers if it wasn't for the Civil Rights Movement. We owe a lot to Black America for what they have done in helping our community, and have forgotten that we are indebted to them for paving the way for our freedom. The same can be said in other parts of the world where Blacks and Indians have inhabited the land together.
I really like your statement, because so many people of color who migrate here never really give respect to the Black American for the works that they have done in the past who had opened the door to us ,thank you for your Honest comment
I always say that me, as a South Asian Punjabi woman, stand on the shoulders of my black sisters and brothers and forefathers who fought for my rights and freedoms in the US. Forever grateful.
I will never bleach my skin. I was raised in the 60s. Where it was very difficult being special dark chocolate. My mom always told me to respond. The blacker the berry the sweeter the juice. That I'm extremely beautiful despite what others say. She taught us that people were envious of my complexion. I use to watch my mom lay out in the sun with coco butter. James Brown said it best at that time. Say it loud, "I'm BLACK and I'm PROUD! Thank you mom
The Blacker the Berry. My mother was a dark woman, my brother is also very dark skinned. Needless to say I’ve always been fond of dark skin people and the darker the berry😍--- LaTaisha Nicole
: Th@ was more of a 70s thing- light skin promotion, especially in Blaxploitation films/TV. The 60s era was STRONGLY "BLACK & PROUD", "Afrikan Motherland"- Blackness, natural hair, etc. * My mother was Dark Chocolate, and my father was "High Yellow" (Louisiana) Creole. * There were many, many marriages/couples like this * Colorism goes both ways. Let us NOT just focus on division. Black Love on mine, ALL DAY EVERY DAY !!! ✊ B1 ♥️🖤💚

As a Black educator, in the American Public School System, I have actually come in contact with Indian teens that stated they wished they were lighter or even white in skin tone. It is truly a sad sight to see...On the other hand, I have also encountered racism from the Indian community because of the color of my skin. But the ironic part is that they were either the same color as me or darker.
I have encountered Racism from my South Indian friend’s mother, she never liked me because, I am “Black”when I asked my friend why, she said, her mother doesn’t want to be reminded of her past, of how she was treated badly in India; or to be associated with, anyone who is Black. Her Classism, Colorism and Racism, can never leave her, and her “isms” contributed to her hatred toward anyone who is of dark complexion. Is that ignorance, superficial social values or opportunist practices ?
I live in an apartment in Austin where a few indian people lived and when I went upstairs in the lounge room to go study a random Indian guy came up to me and was asking me if I lived here and checking if I get emails from the apartment news just to see if I really lived here. As a black man I just want to be left alone in peace. I'm going to build a house and get my own land in africa and take my girlfriend and start a family there because I want peace and my kids to enjoy life.
We've always known this in Jamaica but, that didn't stop us from getting together and work together. There simply isn't any time to waste on racism. Time will not wait around for us to change something we are not qualified nor created.
Back in 1994 I met an East Indian man, a physical therapist. I asked him about racism in India. He said that there is no racism there. There is a cast system. I told him that that cast system is based on skin color. He denied that. I told him that that is the evil shameful truth worldwide wherever the colonizer/oppressors have invaded people who look like him and me. He was lighter than me, but still brown. I was older than he. I told him that at a point in his life he will realize that truth.
My family is Indian subcontinental (but they moved to the west in the 1970. People in the subcontinent have bigotry but it’s not based on race. Bigotry there is based on religion, caste (which is based on jobs and social class), wealth, language.
The doctor was under the mindset that you was a dumb black American as most I them believe what the Caucasian Americans say about us, until they witness white women going crazy over black men, and they witness black men and women in the most unassuming areas of high social status sometimes and it infuriates the East Indian, given that they have invested into Verna and that corrosive, gutter religion called Hinduism!
Ace ortiz..Ofcourse and the darker skin is protected by the sun. We age slower, stay looking younger longer, skin don't burn while in the sun, less cases of skin cancer and it glows. I just love color and no one will EVER convince me otherwise.
She's so right! Racism & anti Blackness is deeply engrained in the Indian community & has simply been exported to the diaspora. This is treated hush hush & publicly denied. I was shocked to learn that dating or marrying an African is taboo in Indian communities in South Africa & normally leads to being disowned. This happened to a South African friend who was forced to move to another region of the country.
@charlesdorsey that must the majority then because most Indians are dark complexions. There's also lots of poverty in India, tremendous abuse against women, dark religions, ignorance leading to arrogance at it's worse .... Take a look at yourselves India 🤔
I can tell you, she’s right! I had an Indian friend. I had a beautiful baby girl, and my friend said, “if my baby was light skinned “, she would be sooo beautiful! I told her she was beautiful now.
That is an awful thing to say! And they say blacks are rude. People are other countries are much more forward and rude with their comments. not all but some.
I think this was Phil's best conversation / interview of all time. He asked very thoughtful, smart questions, kept the proper focus on the origin of the colorism, which was the colonization of India, and he showed great compassion and empathy towards his guest Shweta. She's got a lot of healing to do, but I applaud the fact that she is attempting to end the generational curse on her family of this unfortunate belief system of fairer being more favorable, intelligent, beautiful, etc. Thanks for creating a very important piece of content. I pray this discussion heals a lot of people around the world.
THIS IS SO TRUE! Anti-black anything is unacceptable especially after we’ve been so good to you and helped develop you as a human being. We’re not excepting this in 2023, so all those who want to be anti-black yet steal profit from black can kick rocks.
Black People in America are still anti black in many ways, we mask it better because of our levels of education and affluency. Lets look at what billions are spent on in OUR ppl spending in beauty care products. Everything brother described Indians doing we are still do in the US to each other in many cases. We have to be careful of demanding others to do what we dont do to and for ourselves. Our psyche is damaged because who controls your imagery controls your psyche.
"Anti-black anything is unacceptable" yet black people from America be shitting on Indians everytime we have some kind of progress in the development of the country, how about I give them a reality check and ask them to look at their people being in Africa, they're having a worse life than us, but no pick on other nationalities who're doing good for their countries.
Thanks so much for this video. I am a Black Canadian of British Caribbean descent. I was fortunate to spend two weeks touring in India. I always say that my trip taught me so much about my own Caribbean descent because I saw the effects of colonialism. I noticed that immediately I was bombarded with billboards and TV ads of skin lightening creams and thought that it was so sad. I am dark-skinned with an hourglass figure and wear my Black Girl Magic with extreme pride. I've often worn my natural hair. My mother and sister are much more lighter complexed than I am. I recall that when I was about 13 a Black boy told me that he wouldn't like me because I was dark. Funny as an adult I've noticed that I'm often told that I am beautiful by White men and women mostly because of how I carry myself and my confidence. So my point is that confidence is beautiful in whatever skin tone you are blessed to come into this world in. Embrace your beauty.
Don't feel bad. I heard something similar right here in America. Had once liked this young boy who was in my school. I was in the same class as his sister. Thought I had hit the jackpot one day when his sister invited me over to their house. She knew I liked her brother. However, I noticed throughout the short visit my classmate was acting kind of standoffish. Moreso, than usual. At one point when their mom and older sister went outside my classmate ushered her brother into the living room where we all were sitting. Next thing I know she looks to me and says, " (my name) I don't want you to take this the wrong way but my brother has something to say to you". Part of what sparked it was the mother seemed to tightly control the 'cultural category' of friends she allowed her kids around. So, when I showed up at the house the mother did not think I was a part of their cultural group. I was naive at the time and didn't understand the full scope of the incident until many yrs later. Stupid me here I'm thinking he's going to finally ask me out. No, the whole 'visit' was a set up. The mother and older sister's 'exit' from the house was so that my classmate and her brother could lay the bombshell out on me in privacy / away from the mother who, didn't have the decency to face me herself. My classmates brother comes from another part of the house and says to me: "I'm sorry my mom didn't speak to you the whole time you've been here. Actually, my mom doesn't allow me to talk to or date anyone who is not, Creole". My mouth was on the floor. Needless, to say none of them ever had to worry about me talking to ANY of them, again. .....and as for my former classmate. She was so embarrassed by what she and her brother were put up to tell me that, every time she saw me after that, her stuttering went into overdrive !!!
Thank you! It all depends on the way your dignity is presented. Be proud of “who you are”. I’m Indian from Bangalore and proud to be who I am. By the way I’m darker skinned and proud to be called “black”. Film industry also chooses lighter skinned as actresses. If the male is black, he needs to be 100 times more talented than a lighter skinned. Thank you once again for this topic.
Being able to thrive in the higher latitudes is tremendously expensive, and it is difficult to do without a steady source of cheap resources from places that are closer to the equator.
Wow😯 this is an HONEST Indian woman. Most East Indians here in Guyana 🇬🇾 deny there Discrimination against Blacks and pretend colorism exists and when you deny a problem it only gets WORSE.

This video has highlighted the importance of having good education from good people at a very young age. Being a British born Nigerian and relocating at a young age of 7 to Nigeria has done me a world of good. I’ve never had any issues with the tone of my skin (I’m as dark as they come) but having role models who look like me achieving great things from a young age has fortified me mentally. I returned to the UK at 17, and I am unable to look at a person with a different skin tone, be it lighter or darker as superior or inferior despite now having letters after my name.
I worked in dermatology, where I learned to love and appreciate my color. White patients would tell me they loved my skin cuz I don’t have to worry about skin cancers and wrinkles. Some were even jealous. Some whites are even mixing with us according to them, to ensure the survival of there future generations cuz the ozone layer being destroyed would destroy them. I was surprised to see that video. I love my melanated skin.♥️ I am from Trinidad and we have that problem with the Indians there, they make up a large part of the population, came there as indentured laborers.

In the late 90’s while working in a hospital in Washington DC, a new very, very dark Indian physician who was much darker than me became quite irate when another co-worker commented on his beautiful skin. He said “ I am not a Negroid” and walked away. It made me angry at the time, but after listening to this, I imagine he was bullied about his dark skin.
Do not empathize with people like that. It’s not just skin color, he was saying the he is not a ni66er like you. Some whites are ridiculed for being too pale and I would not empathize with them either.

We are not black...the black an white philosophy is a European philosophy an ideology...yes we've embrace the terrible label to combat white supremacy but we are African
Greeks used to call Africans western Ethiopians and they used to call Indians eastern Ethiopians. They called us by those terms because their existed strong cultural ties between Africa and India at the time. Infact India was called Indo-Cush at the time. This talks to the connection between Africa and India. If you look at some Indian gods and the earliest images of the Budha, there is no doubt about the connection between Africa and India. We need to look for things that connect us than separate us for the good of both peoples....
Alot of light skin black people have colourism issues in the west too England, Carribean islands and the United states it's not just indian people, remember if your white your are always right to them.
I was disturb when I watch this video last week on youtube of an Indian Mother using bleaching cream on her son, and was totally fine with it. Her video was showing people how they can actually do it. Lord have mercy.
That mother doesn't know any better. She is traumatizing that child, He will live to hate her! I am quite sure that she got a lot of backlash from people who watch youtube.
I went to Southern Indian and spent 2 months in Hyderabad . I went to purchase some body lotion and every product had lightening cream in it . Almost on every billboard was an advertisement for bleaching cream. Colorism is real. I met a lovely lady entrepreneur who said that her husband calls her blackie and that her father-in-law only cherishes her lighter daughter, not her darker daughter 😢 I also went to Karnataka where in the capital I did see more melanated Indians in capital, Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore). There is a melanated population called the Siddis. The Siddis of Karnataka are an ethnic group inhabiting India. Members are descended from Bantu peoples from Southeast Africa that were brought to the Indian subcontinent as slaves by Portuguese merchants and Arab traders.
Yeah colourism is real here. And most people wants to look fair/lighter. That's the reason those girls/boys get more proposals who look lighter skinned.
@@sairis it's sad but true, it's even among black people and in Africa. In Ghana, men prefer light skin women and vice versa. Same in the Caribbean, it's even worse over there.

The same thing happens in Mexico. If you watch your soap opera, The all the actors are very very light skinned Mexicans. There are no dark-skinned Mexicans on TV
@my.02 I completely agree with commission Mark when I was 16 I had a very light skinned boyfriend with red hair. I was living in Mexico City at the time. She said the Indian men are demanding fair wives. The Black American men (not all) are demanding fair wives here, also. Wow! How bout that. It's universal! Something to think about...
Talking about skin bleaching in the Caribbean, it is prominent in the Dominican Republic. When I saw a recent picture of former Chicago Cubs All Star Outfielder Sammy Sosa, he was unrecognizable. Whatever he's done to his skin in my opinion is criminal. It reminds me of Malcolm X said to an audience, " who taught you to hate yourself." When Sosa played for the Cubs he was embraced with his dark skin, however after his retirement and return to his homeland The Dominican Republic, he became maladjusted thereby believing a white skin tone was necessary for his self esteem. Granted he was already a hero to the Dominican people, baseball is the national sport, and MLB is flooded with Dominican players, so why did he find it necessary to become white? He drank the wine of white supremacy, it's hurtful to see it, but it is what it is.
@@YTHatesMe-999 it hurts bgm6603, what do we have to do here in the Western Hemisphere to uplift our people out of the dredges of white supremacy to become proud of what they are? I hope this will answer your thoughts. Dominicans of color don't believe they have African roots and will convince you they're European. To the Dominican dominican is their color.
I've worked at jobs in the United States where the non citizen, on visa, African employees would allow the Indian employees to discriminate against them. They would allow ALL the foreign employees to abuse them. It was deplorable.

Indian are also racists towards other Asians too. The Indian government actually created PSA to denounce the word *_"Chinky"_* because it's a derogatory term used against East Asian looking Indians. Colonialism have left is fucked-up mark in India and on Indian. This is why Indian American actress like Mindy Kaling and other South Asian American actors and actresses purposely will pair themselves with white men and women in movies, television shows and alike in western entertainment industry. Compare that to other Asian American group where only women are paired to white men because Asian women don't have control of the media.
This was a fantastic presentation Brother. Both of you brought out poignant points that we all need to consider. I think one of the most powerful things that was brought up that should've been touched on more and maybe you can invite her back so that you can reach our audience with this point. You mentioned our Black is Beautiful movement which lifted self-esteem. There is a need for some type of Black Beautiful movement in India, even if only regionally. This was a key gem African Americans shared with the world. So powerful it reached back to MotherAfrica. When you said I would visit India because Black people are everywhere and want visit your people. Powerful! It would be great to see you two to converse more because there c is an Awakening of the Black /Melanin Consciousness and esteem. People are waking up history is starting to be retraced and acknowledged in that conversation played a great part in what is to come. Thank you to both of you.
I work with a lot of Indians and this sheds a lot of light on why a high majority of them sympathize with the Black Americans here in the US. Great Episode!
Great show Phil. you are opening a lot of eyes of people around the world with plain old common sense. The truth can only set you free when you become knowledgeable of yourself and accept who you are.
That's crazy! Colorism is everywhere and passed down from to generation. How do we stop this madness??? My family and I have never gone through this and proud to be black!
I appreciate Shweta's story, bravery and her life. Truly people need to learn from systematic self hate that has manifested / been rooted in our cultures and social context to condition us all to uplift one (1) color or group and dehumanize natural beauty. Color = worthiness. The darker a person is the less worthy. This is a vicous lie and is rooted in evil.

Refreshing and inspiring to see and hear how candidly this courageous Indian woman speaks out about this matter. It will most likely not be appreciated by many of her compatriots. You have my respect lady.
HEARING people talk about hating their complexion, using products to get lighter . I'm gonna be honest it makes me want to cry it's really sad because I love black women and I hate for them to be told they aren't beautiful. Because it's an evil lie black women are the most curviest full lips most attractive women on this planet, white women are getting injections to look like black and brown WOMEN But white media still push this lie of beauty , and for some reason so many fall for it .
Because they're about being the center of attention. And if us Black people were to take that away from them . They will die . Look at how WW were dying over a black Woman movement on ticktoc Or when that BM announced that he only wants BW. And WW went nuts. Like how dare someone don't put me on a pedestal. They wouldn't last a week in our shoes when it comes to being discriminated against. Yet they love bullying but can't take it.
@layberry5979 I agree it's a ploy to continue to undermine African women because they are the most beautiful; at the same time to undermine their confidence! We are a powerful people that have existed for 100's of thousands of years with the most strands of DNA than anybody else! Our existence is a threat! My words to them! Is get over it! I still love brown and the darker of tones. Besides sex is sweeter! Sorry I'm just saying! Like candy!
Great discussion Phila and Shweta. I am of Afrikan origin(s) and I say it this way only because the same whites gave us the name blacks. I grew up in the US and have been living in a country in East Afrika for a bit over a year. I have so much to say on your discussion but, I won't be able to capture everything now because I have to finish up dinner. Phil, I want to say that you will find some of us in the US using skin bleaching creams (whiteners/brighteners). True we are generally on a path to "trying" to love the skin that we are in but if you go into any beauty supply store in the hood you will find those products. There is also at least one "black" owned company who I won't call out, who has soaps and creams that contain these products. I believe colorisnm is still alive and well in our communities in the US, perhaps just not as overt as previously. You mentioned them (in India) loving their colonizers. Well, that happens here as well. They did such a fantastic (horrible) job with damaging folks psychologically worldwide; this is not a strange , but common phenomenon. You are right that many of them (white people) want our skin tones; they also want our facial features, body types, mannerisms, etc. Many are even trying to hijack AAVE (Ebonics). Of course we are not a monolith as is no group of people but we dp of course share some traits and characteristics. Many of these things coming from us are judged negatively while from the appropriaters ithey are judged as cool, creative, and inventive. Shweta, it is the same here as far as the white women dressing in traditional clothing or not and being revered and they are generally treated better that other Afrikans or people of Afrikan decent. I am an afrikan person, also raised abroad. But I have always felt a stronger relationship to Indians than to the Europeans. There’s no explanation to that. The funniest thing is I often meet Indians dark as me accompanied by white people, who behave more distant to me than their white friends. Just remember that the nazis were only 12 years in Power. Therefore this nefarious mentality was exported all around the globe. So I guess we still need some time and education to overcome this madness called COLORISM.

Black is beautiful!!!
I even got a black tee shirt that says, I ❤ black people.

It is called self-hate and most of them are brainwashed by the WS.
Hopefully, that discussion will come up sooner than later.
I disagree. I don’t see that. In fact, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve had multiple instances when I was considered not dark enough to be ideal.
@@KamalasNotLikeUs you find that situation more amongst black athletes and celebrities wanting light skin wives.

It reminds me of Malcolm X said to an audience, " who taught you to hate yourself."
When Sosa played for the Cubs he was embraced with his dark skin, however after his retirement and return to his homeland The Dominican Republic, he became maladjusted thereby believing a white skin tone was necessary for his self esteem. Granted he was already a hero to the Dominican people, baseball is the national sport, and MLB is flooded with Dominican players, so why did he find it necessary to become white? He drank the wine of white supremacy, it's hurtful to see it, but it is what it is.
I used to be a fan of Sammy Sosa when he was in the majors. I saw the same picture that you saw and lost all respect for him.
@@YTHatesMe-999 it hurts bgm6603, what do we have to do here in the Western Hemisphere to uplift our people out of the dredges of white supremacy to become proud of what they are? Malcolm X said it, James Brown said, The Last Poets said it, Jesse Jackson said it, and countless others but it hasn't resonated, one day it will.
I hope this will answer your thoughts. Dominicans of color don't believe they have African roots and will convince you they're European. To the Dominican dominican is their color.
Kudos to you for this video, Phil!!! You really outdid yourself with this one. Bravo!!!!
I've worked at jobs in the United States where the non citizen, on visa, African employees would allow the Indian employees to discriminate against them. They would allow ALL the foreign employees to abuse them. It was deplorable.
Many are copping and following the oppressor and they surely succeed dividing the world. They are the cause of many worldwide turmoil these gonna have a lot to answer on judgment day.

I appreciate Shweta's story, bravery and her life. Truly people need to learn from systematic self hate that has manifested / been rooted in our cultures and social context to condition us all to uplift one (1) color or group and dehumanize natural beauty.
Look at how WW were dying over a black Woman movement on ticktoc
Or when that BM announced that he only wants BW.
