Making a Fordite Ring (Pure Car Paint Ring)

- In today's video, Patrick Adair designs a ring made entirely out of fordite (also known as corvettite, detroit agate, or just car paint! haha). The end result displays an incredible pattern of the hundreds of layers it takes to make each ring. He also made variants of this ring that are supported by carbon fiber and titanium, they are available on the website.

Of course we want to see the videos Patrick! The ring turned out gorgeous.
Yo should cut it horizontally to enhance the pattern
It would break so much easier that way, where the layers connect is the weak spot, anyway It would still be cool to see it.
If it’s thick enough
@@ExperimentalFun is tgere a thing called c.a glue to seal it all up tight
oblique would be better
Video suggestion: it would be cool to see a ring with thermochromic properties, like when you wear it the inside of the ring changes color from your body heat. I know there are some thermochromic pigments on the market that change color at around 30 C (just below body temp.). Would be cool to see a video on making a ring with thermochromic properties.
AKA *a mood ring?? Lol
Didnt he make one already?
Ho did you know that homer
Mad hatter Gaming know what exactly?
I’m so glad to see your still making ring designs they are so interesting to watch! Great work!
I love the carbon fiber. Definitely interested in all of your future videos. I still go back to your older videos because they're just so satisfying and amazing.
Fantastic ring. Great idea and excellent craftsmanship.
It looks awesome!
All of them make them all! We will watch!
This looks like a cool hobby to do
What would an angled cut ring look like?
Fricking awesome if it is possible
I LOVE Fordite! I hope to own a piece of jewelry made of Fordite someday.
These are really nice.
Great job!
Dude, that turned out amazing! I really love the one with the titanium liner!
The rings made with titanium are gorgeous.
Another great looking piece - really like the rings in the pic at the end of the video too. Keep up the great work!
That's pretty incredible.
Very nice Patrick, you always find new and different materials to make awesome rings, this one is very different. ..make more
Fantastic looking ring. Love it ☆
That’s pretty awesome Ring WOW
These rings would look great with your obsidian patterning to cut through and show off more of the layers. Great work!
Loving the carbon and titanium ones.
Keep up the good work
These are so cool
Beautiful ring
this ring looks so fricken cool man good job
Nice video! First discovered you from the collab w TKOR. Enjoyed a few of your videos so far and it's been neat to see how much better your videos are getting in such a short time (the rings are always killer). Fun to see you so excited over the experimentation part of your craft. I think that's an important part for anyone's passion. Nice work man!
I really like the idea of making a ring out of paint, and yes the rings displayed at the end are also awesome!!. I would like to see a video of your making them.
Very cool looking, i'd watch any video you'd make, always mesmerized by the process.
that is cool. I would love to see more videos of this
So awesome man! I don't wear rings but i love your videos they help me sleep.
I wish I could afford to buy your rings. They all look amazing and unique.
You never know what you'll get. pretty awesome! I didn't know you could even get fordite.
So many stripes...
*_Adidas is proud of you Patrick._*
Definitely want to see some more fordite rings!!!!
I love all your vids👍🏽
I can't say no to more cool videos
Loved the addition of the cf and titanium liners at the end. Really a wonderful material to make rings and I would love to see you encase one in Alumilite or another form of hard transparent resin!
Colourful af 🔥
My favourite ring was the one with fordite on the inside and titanium on the outside. Would love to see more videos on this!
Nice work
i like the music, pretty chill
That Ring is looking wonderful... Can you make a star wars themed ring?
Probably not, Disney is very protective of their intellectual property.
The meteorite rings remind me of the death star
What a cool material
Do an inspired by ring one way to get round it
Very cool! Hawk nest customs knows how to get some great materials for us makers. Definitely keep it up!
Would love to see more rings out of fordite
The ring is nice, it’s like more colorful mokume gane. If you still have enough fordite, i would suggest cutting the ring blanks perpendicular to the layers, or at an angle to the layers. I think that will let you capture the more swirly patterns on the surface of the block.
FORDite
Now I get it
Nice man that fordite with a Sterling silver lining would be sweet .
They're so cool! The lines on them look like blurred light in a long exposure picture or something
So many options in the after thought, Pat, do a video for every type of ring you suggested in this. That will be awesome to watch everything you can do with this material.
wow amazing 👍👍✌️
It would be cool to see a ring made of fordite shavings cast in resin.
I think those would be really cool videos
I love it
def wanna see more vids of it :D
Very interesting.
That's really neat. I definitely want to see the shavings cast in resin video. :D I have made a similar looking thing using different colors of clay and the mokume gane technique then slicing it down to expose stripes etc. Maybe I could cast it in resin and then use that to make a ring. Hmm.... Thanks for sharing this video. - Heidi
Hey! I really like your channel, and recently I got access to some of the machines you use to make your rings. I was wondering if you have a tutorial or if you could make one. Like what you need and how you actually make the ring. Thanks!
Nice man should do more
Damn. That new intro is baller
The shavings in resin would look really cool, just see how much you can do with it! 👍
Wow!
Those rings all look fantastic. I think it would turn out even cooler if you clamped down the fordite and set your drill press table at an angle and holesaw out a cross section of the layers.
My favorite piece in my rock cabinet is a small drip edge of fordite brother and its not even a rock. I would love to have anything made from that especially these amazing rings
Amazing result ! What about try a fordite version but with some glow powder ? it can look really cool !
Although more difficult, drilling along the bias (obliquely) would probably produce a blank that is even more visually interesting.
I also thought it said Fortnite, that tells you what we are all thinking lol. I would love to see more fordite rings Patrick. Great video as always!
fordite with colored carbon fiber would look nice would love to see that :)
Videos of the shaving cast ring would be awesome
Cool stuff, I had always thought that was called Detroit agate. If you could cut your blanks at an angle to the layers you might get a cool wood grain type pattern on the outside. Easier said than done though I am sure though.
I'd love to see videos for the cordite shavings and carbon fiber insides
Back in the 70s I worked during college summers at a GM Plant. One year our job was to peel all the overspray layers from the paint tunnels. it was gruesome work. We were dumping fordite(GMite?) by the wheel barrel loads. Later an old timer showed me a pendant he made with it. So they used it then. I wish I had saved all that fordite we threw away.
Pretty nice to hear liquid DNB on one of your videos haha big ups
hey Patrick, awesome rings out of really interesting material. Would it be cool to round off the ring to expose some more layers of the different colors? Keep up the awesome work.
maybe also you could use the fordite as an inlay in an tungsten or carbon fiber ring, that'd be pretty cool
I’ll experiment with different profiles on the rings.
Patrick Adair Designs amazing. Looking forward to the next upload!
Hey I just watched the video and it's an awesome video I also saw that you were cutting a bunch of rain blanks out of your fordite block I was wondering after you cut all of your ring blanks could I have the waste of that block I also make things like jewelry and stuff out of fordite and was wondering if I could get the waste
I'm wondering about tipping the table on the drill press when cutting the fordite blank to change up the layers
what music is it around 6 minutes in, It sounds really good
YAAAS
The amount of Instagram build up for this ring! Great video tho, keep up the good work.
There's only so much original Fordite left in the world. Fordite is a piece of American History,
More videos of the fordite and titanium and carbon fiber please.
I think it would be cool if you take their shavings mix some glow in the dark powder make a ring in that way and think it would be cool and how much money wood you want?
I like how he added his name in the note so we won't think maybe someone else hacked in and put it in his vedio
I have a suggestion for a ring do you think you can make a playstation ring???
Yesss we all been waiting for this #instagram squad
How about make the reain and shavings ring have a carbon fiber lining? I think the black and white carbon fiber would suit the colours nicely.
How about you make a relatively thinner fordite ring and encase it in a layer of clear (or relatively clear) resin
i got some of this stuff from a friend that had a powder coating business
I just realized I have the same type of Belt Sander and very similar 3D Printer as Patrick... now I just need a mini lathe...
what music is this??
in the video when u are cuting the blanks.
kind of like it!!
what lathe do you use pls? love your vids :)
Bring those videos
What about stabilizing the rings with resin?
Save the shavings and put them in resin?
It seems like you could get a cool pattern by drilling at a 45 degree angle.
What if you were to cut into your block at an angle so the ring shows more depth in the colors. Dont know if its possible but its probably easier said than done.
Nice ring man i wish i could buy one, too bad im poor
Can you please make a ring out of all the shavings of every leftover including other stuff than fordite
Can you please make a ring out of preserved snowflakes? It'd look very unique and I think you'd do a great job on it.
What about the lead in the paint being in contact with skin all day?
Who cares if ur first also great idea never would have thought of that
What about sealing it with a resin to water proof and strengthen it? Just a thought 😁
