Thanks for watching! Let me know what you thought of the style we used in this video, I tried to keep talking to a minimum and just focus on the making. If you have any questions make sure to check the description as I always fill it with a bunch of helpful info!
Me laying down, watching this in my pjs: “Does he need to cut THAT big of a piece of copper to made a ring blank?” Voice in my head: “And just how many rings have YOU made?” Me: “Fair point. I’m shutting up now.”
Lynn , You asked a very legitimate question. The diameter of the copper rod is going to depend on the finished ring size . As an example , for some of us , shall we say with larger paw prints x(my wedding band fits a quarter inside with room to spare , no I'm not fat , I'm fluffy) l would need to start with 1. 25" stock . Thank God I did not become a proctologist .😁
Could probably be one my favorites, it is highly unfortunate the fact that you couldn't make this ring before, but still, I love this ring A LOT, keep going on what you're doing! Best from me in Puerto Rico! And watch out for the COVID-19!
awhile back I had an individual purchase a ring from me but sold it right after for more and honestly made me a bit happy that people saw it as something beautiful.
I love seeing copper and malachite together because actual malachite can be crushed to get copper. I doubt the same is true for "trustone" malachite, which I assume is a man-made resin of some kind given the way it cuts instead of shattering, but the fact remains that these elements share history. Most people neglect to mention, or are unaware of, this stone's intrinsic connection to this metal. That along with the fact that people rarely create using copper because their customers fear the "green ring," means this is one of the few videos I've seen featuring copper and malachite together. People will use everything but copper even if they know the connection... So, thanks for that.
I bought four pure copper compact LED flashlights from CountyComm. I only opened one each of the AAA, and CR123 lights, and the patina they take on is great. I could easily clean them, but I like them just as they are. One of them is always part of my every day carry. No green at all.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Patrick and sorry that your customer did that to you. It's a terrible thing. Glad you haven't let it bother you too much and you made this video anyway. Your work/creativity is so awesome! 🙏
That's beautiful! It makes me really wish I could wear copper. (Also: A similar design could work amazingly with blue stones -- e.g. azurite, sodalite, or lapis lazuli!)
I glad if you make an anodised aluminium simple ring with sharp edges, NOT ROUNDED EDGES! (just like the texture of Mac book aluminium body) Matte, simple and clean!
You guys have more and more fun with the videography every few videos and I really appreciate that (was watching from the heavy etching & glowing ring days)
Patrick , As a longtime lover of malachite, l find this ring to be beautiful. As a long time rockhound , l feel l must pass on a few warnings: Malachite dust is highly toxic , along with turquoise, and chrysocolla, 2 other copper based mineral used in jewelry making . Use gloves when handling any of these minerals, a face mask when working around them if dust is going to be created . One method l have found helpful is to stabilize worksble sized pieces in resin using a pressure pot method. Make a mold form out of aluminum foil , small box , or any container just slightly larger than the piece you want to stabilize. This way you are not wasting resin or extra time getting the resin down to the size of the piece you are working with . Under pressure the resin will penetrate pores in the mineral and bond with some of the dust . It will not under any circumstances be a reason to override safety measures ! AGAIN WEAR CLOVES , MASK, AND SHOWER AFTER YOUR DONE . Just saying folks if you want to work with these beautiful minerals , safety first . Sorry for running on , but the health hazards can shorten your life, check out articles regarding toxicity of copper based minerals.
This would be a perfect ring for me, as I love both copper and malachite. What puzzles me is how they can make malachite truestone with the grain that it has. Looks amazing!
When malachite is being formed ,it is a slow leaching of copper oxides into the rock that holds the copper in its mineral form. As the leached out copper penetrates cavities in the rock it will bind around other compounds taking on their shape creating different swirls in the malachite. Kind of like pearls that have been cut in half and you can see the shape of the original debris the the necar formed around.
@@richardpalmer6196 That's cool. I didn't know all of that. But Patrick said it's truestone. Truestone is made by a company from actual minerals (malachite in this piece), into a block or slab. In essence, like particle board but with stone. But how they get it to mimic the grain of malachite...it must be magic.
I wasn't entirely sold on the copper until it was fully polished. It's absolutely beautiful and if I weren't a broke college student I'd definitely buy one.
Beautiful ring. I love copper and this color combination. But when I went to your web site I did not see it as an option. Will you be selling this style?
Had no idea you were in Utah till you were on Faith and Claytons video a week or so ago, was really cool to see some of my favorite RUclips’s together 👍🏻
I think your channels still "small" enough that you'll see this. Ive been watching your videos forever and have always been blown away by how awesome your videos are!! :) Makes me happy to see your still going after all this time keep up the good work man! Someday Ill have enough to buy one of your rings but right now I need it for other life things XD Have a great day!
just a heads up for anyone trying to replicate this since as far as i am in the video patrick hasn’t mentioned it; malachite dust is lethal to inhale so any time you work with it it should be submerged in a liquid.
Where can we purchase some of this special copper round stock? Also, do you usually buy your round stock in 1 inch diameters? Does that size cover most ring sizes?
I love your videos so much! They’re so informative and I feel like I learn more from them then my engineering courses 😂 The ring turned out amazing and I’m honestly so mad that guy stole your design!
amateur ring maker here. I have a question about the tellurium copper. You said it doesn't leave a green mark on the finger, has it had any other skin reactions or irritations as far as you can tell? If not, I am thinking of adding tellurium to my bronze and brass alloys
It's so sad to hear about your design being stolen. Unfortunately this happens so often with freelance artists and designers. I get emails all the time for stuff like this with website designs. Glad you ended up making this beauty in the end!

Well I thought it was a pretty good way how you did it because once you finished it it came out really good
Question:
How do you stop the copper from tarnishing and staining your finger?
Thanks Patrick.
You should make this a box of the month
Natster Jam tellurium he said
Patrick Adair Designs is this ring going to be put on your website for purchase. If so I want one for my wedding that’s coming up in November.
"it won't leave a green ring around your finger"
*Makes a green ring for your finger*
Sloth Massacre hahaha
You aren't wrong!
Me laying down, watching this in my pjs: “Does he need to cut THAT big of a piece of copper to made a ring blank?”

10:5 That's so hypnotizing the clean copper looks like it's not moving but the malachite does
this ring is so dang pretty. so pretty i chose this to be my wedding band. it came out wonderful. glad i chose this one.

Considering the way that your design was "stolen", has your process of sending concepts and mockups changed?
Yeah, for the most part I don't spend much time with a potential customer until the order has been placed.
I love the copper. And now there’s this anti corrosion stuff it’s perfect.
That ring is beautiful !!!!!!
Love that contrast. Two of my favorite colors.
Cool technique, tasteful color and material combination
Your videos relax me so much that I fell asleep yesterday sitting XD
Dude, love the vids. I've even started making my own from your inspiration, it's so much fun
Patrick, that's one gorgeous ring, the contrast in the colors are just perfect, nicely done!
awhile back I had an individual purchase a ring from me but sold it right after for more and honestly made me a bit happy that people saw it as something beautiful.

thank you Patrick your a big inspiration of mine now I'm slowly but surly getting into ring making
That's beautiful! It makes me really wish I could wear copper.
(Also: A similar design could work amazingly with blue stones -- e.g. azurite, sodalite, or lapis lazuli!)

Bardzo nieoczekiwany efekt, elegancko. Rzeczywiście z tą zielenią pięknie, takie marmurkowe przejścia 👍
Podoba mi się.
Pozdrowienia z Polski 👋
very cool , my first thought got me thinking, how would look like stainless or other silvery metal with crushed malachite inlay
Simple and beautiful

The new style is great top-notch quality as always
Makes me want a ring just like that now...

@@cycoholic it is not real malachite but just ream stone, they use different dyes to get the grain

Beautiful ring, but where do you get such large blocks of Trustone?
Amazing job that incredible
Awesome! Do you make Bracelets and if so, how much are they? Mahalo

How do you stop the copper from oxidizing? Did you coat it with something?
Also it was asimple design but I very much enjoyed the blend of colors and style. ^^
Love your videos, favourite ring so far is the ebony ivory ring, you should try one out of ebony and deer antler!
Are you going to be adding some of these ring(s) to your store?

Are you still making rings from your scrap pieces? We haven't seen a video of that in a while. This is perfection!
Hi. This is awesome. Will this ring also be available on your site to order?
Hi! Love the design! When will it be for sale on your website?
Now that's a massive slab of malachite.
creative video!
Are you able to use a regular drill press with those diamond bits or do you needs something specific for metal?
Very cool
